Mozilla CEO threatens to fire person responsible for anonymous hate speech on Reddit The Verge ____________________
"If they are an employee, they will be fired." - - - An anonymous person complaining about "social justice bullies" at Mozilla will be fired if the person is discovered to be an employee, the company's CEO said today. Speaking at Mozilla's weekly public meeting, Mozilla CEO Chris Beard said Reddit user aioyama had "crossed the line" in a series of postings about women at the company, including recently departed community organizer Christie Koehler. In a series of tweets earlier this month, Koehler complained about Mozilla's lack of diversity in the workplace and its failure to address accessibility issues. The Reddit user welcomed Koehler's exit. "Frankly everyone was glad to see the back of Christie Koehler. She was batshit insane and permanently offended at everything," the user wrote. "When she and the rest of her blue-haired nose-pierced asshole feminists are gone, the tech industry will breathe a sigh of relief." It was that remark that appeared to trigger Beard's warning today. "When I talk about crossing the line from criticism to hate speech, I'm talking about when you start saying 'someone's kind doesn't belong here, and we'll all be happy when they're gone.'"
It's not really that hard for them to find out if indeed, a Mozilla employee posted that - if he was VPN'd in when he did, that is.
Social justice bullies...I kind of like that alternate name.
Mozilla is about openness* *Provided you say or do nothing we disagree with. Even under anonymity. Also claiming that
When she and the rest of her blue-haired nose-pierced asshole feminists are gone, the tech industry will breathe a sigh of relief.
is hate speech is pretty unnerving.
At this rate, one could go as far as say your avatar is racist because it features a white man, or whatever. That's the beauty of being an SJW - you can get "offended" at practically everything.
My avatar is clearly a black and white man you cis scum.

:snip: actually its not worth the argument at this point.
blue haired women with nose piercings who are a part of a activist community I would file that under hate speech
Blue haired women with nose piercings aren't a sex, race, ethnicity, etc. It's not hate speech. [editline]29th August 2015[/editline] Oh you backed out.
Blue haired women with nose piercings aren't a sex, race, ethnicity, etc. It's not hate speech. [editline]29th August 2015[/editline] Oh you backed out.
More backed out because I know that whenever I post in these types of threads it always becomes a shit fest and goes horribly off topic with no one's opinions ever actually being changed. I would like to ask that what was quoted of my previous post be ignored. I snipped it for a reason.
sjws piss me off so much, especially when they get handed authority
Blue haired women with nose piercings aren't a sex, race, ethnicity, etc. It's not hate speech. [editline]29th August 2015[/editline] Oh you backed out.
Maybe ad hominem at worst, but far from how bad hate speech can go.
More backed out because I know that whenever I post in these types of threads it always becomes a shit fest and goes horribly off topic with no one's opinions ever actually being changed.
Yeah, it's an unfortunate environment, they need to bring mass debate back.
Yeah, it's an unfortunate environment, they need to bring mass debate back.
SH is effectively Mass Debate now though. No more ratings and the same dramatic arguments. I sorta miss the ratings because they provided a filter for people afraid of box ratings. Also, really? The CEO is going to fire someone for making a very harsh reality come to light? Doesn't that prove the point of the person supposedly making hate speech?
Dude is entitled to his opinion no contest
So this is why Mozilla has gone down the shitter lately...
Also, really? The CEO is going to fire someone for making a very harsh reality come to light? Doesn't that prove the point of the person supposedly making hate speech?
it doesn't matter when the CEO leads/hires a hivemind of similar people willing to oust anyone who doesn't think their way. it's very authoritarian and goes against everything mozilla stood for in the past
An anonymous person complaining about "social justice bullies" at Mozilla will be fired if the person is discovered to be an employee, the company's CEO said today.
Well firing somebody for anonymously expressing their views is kinda bullying...
If you go online and say nasty things about your co-workers, you're going to get fired, is that not a given?
"When I talk about crossing the line from criticism to hate speech, I'm talking about when you start saying 'someone's kind doesn't belong here, and we'll all be happy when they're gone.'"
Its not like he was wishing she be killed... Jesus.
Employers regularly look at social media profiles for applicants etc, to see if they've posted anything that could hurt the company, it's nothing new Automerge!
If you go online and say nasty things about your co-workers, you're going to get fired, is that not a given?
But is it not important that we have a way to keep companies honest? You need comments like this sometimes.
But is it not important that we have a way to keep companies honest? You need comments like this sometimes.
Not really, not when it's personal comments like this. Talking shit about someone's appearance or political views doesn't really have a place there
im not sure if i'd feel comfortable working at a company that actively threatens it's employees like this
If you talk shit about your co-workers online, don't be surprised if you get fired. It doesn't matter if its hate speech or not.
May not have been acceptable from a corporate standpoint, but I can't say I even disagree with the person at this point. This whole trend throughout the tech business has twisted into a grotesque facsimile of what we used to call "affirmative action." It's done little but distract everyone with these constant "movements" and false outrage, pulling resources away into a mass hissy-fit instead of letting everyone in the business focus on what's actually important: the tech. I wouldn't even be so dismissive of it if they actually got real, positive results for the cause they claim to be championing, but really it's just a bunch of scenester cliques and spoiled trust-fund kids looking for money and attention by using the banner of an otherwise reasonable goal. Screw 'em, I say. The tech industry is very results driven. If these people want in, they need to realize they gotta earn their respect through actual work, and until they've pulled their weight, to keep their goddamn heads down. No one's gonna pay attention to the yells of someone who isn't helping out in the first place, because they're not doing anything but making the pamphlet photos look good otherwise. You're not special by default, sweetheart. You're only worth as much as you can actually offer.
If you did this at any company you'd get fired, if you subtract the "SJW" aspect of it this is no different than going online and calling your boss by name a cunt.
If someone makes a public rant on how much they hate the people in their job while complaining about their ideology and looks then there's no reason to not show them their way out. I wouldn't see it as a punishment but more of getting rid of somebody who clearly doesn't belong in there.

Probably the main reason why I never took SJWs and their "causes" seriously, and I never will. I don't even disagree with that guy either, the whole thing is a fucking travesty and I can't wait 'till the "SJW bubble" bursts.
and I can't wait 'till the "SJW bubble" bursts.
Will it? Everyone seems to be waiting but so far there are no signs of any bursting. How bad does it need to get until it bursts? If at all...
Will it? Everyone seems to be waiting but so far there are no signs of any bursting. How bad does it need to get until it bursts? If at all...
All bubbles bust when people just stop waiting for them to bust. That's the thing - trends like that don't go "POP!", they just silently fall into obscurity when people stop paying attention.
This is bullshit, what the person said is hardly hate speech imo and further proves the point.
Even if you find those people annoying that doesn't mean you have the right to bash them. But free speech and whatever. Shouldn't have done it publicly like that if anything.
