Killing Floor fans, and fans of killing astonishing amounts of digital monsters more generally, rejoice! After months of waiting, Tripwire Interactive has announced that Killing Floor 2 will hit Steam Early Access on April 21.
Yess!
You lost me at early access. I loved Killing Floor but I'm sick of half-finished games, especially if they make you pay for them.
Now to cry since I am broke.
From the gameplay videos they've put up there doesn't really seem to be a reason to launch in early access.

At least its a well trusted Dev so you can expect it to be finished, have tons of community involvement, and post release content.
FINALLY
KF is the shit but eventually everybody I played it with burned out on it. Can't fucking wait.

You have a bad taste in your mouth from all the shitty indie developers that sit in early access forever.

No... pull up a seat and listen carefully, children...
Early Access will come out with 4 Perks, their weapon sets, a couple of off-perk weapons, 3 maps, all the Zeds, one Boss. Plus 25 levels per Perk, 5 sets of choices on Skills for each.
We have a current view on balance in that setup. We'll check that with you guys, gather the feedback and tweak. We're thinking that this first pass of all the basics may take a few weeks.
Then we start adding more. Throw in another Perk, weapons, etc. Check the balance with that in. Does anything feel unbalanced now? No...
Add in more Perks, weapons, maps... pause to check balance each time, add more.
So we don't tune ALL the perks at once. We tune the first set. Add more. Retune. Add more. Retune. Rinse and repeat until we have all 10 Perks in... and then its done!
I hope that makes more sense?
So it won't be early access forever, and the game isn't really "half-finished".

Early access does not mean it's half finished. You should judge each game individually, rather than being like "Oh it's early access, it must be bad". I'm fairly sure they've said it's going to be mostly complete in terms of features, it's early access as they're going to make some changes based on player feedback.

You're completely missing the point of early access. It's not to get the game to you earlier, it's to improve it by help and feedback of the community.
This game looks ridiculously good and I'm gonna break my video game rule and buy this day 1
They said in an interview that they want to show the other indie devs out there "How to do early access right." Or something along those lines.
Game itself should be pretty much finished and as bug-free as they can get it - to my knowledge - the "Early access" part is to get feedback on how the weapons/monsters/maps play outside of an internal testing environment and to add the final polishing touches - again, based on feedback.
Definitely going to go for it. I love the original Killing Floor so I'm eager to jump back into being a firebug.
$30 for early access seems a little high to me. I'll wait till it comes out though to see how it is
MK and GTA on 14th and KF on 21st? April slow down, too many games.
I can't wait to try raining money down on my comrades

$30 seems pretty good to me. Get to help the devs out, and also get the full game once done. I also wonder if the STEAM summer sale will have in on discount?

You're the first person to say that's high because everyone's been saying its fantastic, and possibly too low - it'll probably go up $10 on launch.

Probably not. Discounting early access games has always been really dumb.
People are wary of Early-Access, but the game's basically done. It's down to balance testing. Some classes might be locked and be unlocked on a rolling basis - but the game looks totally playable right now.
It's not like Starbound where I paid to get a skeleton of a game that still hasn't ousted Terraria.
Just remember guys that Tripwire is the dev team which has it's alphas in a finished state for game testing.

Yep.
As much as I love KF and RO2, both were buggy as fuck on initial release and felt more like alpha/beta releases than a full release.
Something tells me they're just pushing the game out now so they can have an excuse for the bugginess, with the lack of content to back up the whole Early Access idea.
Still won't stop me from buying it though. Even in its early state, KF2 looks pretty solid and has a lot more done on it than most other Early Access titles out there.

KF had a buggy launch? I remember some nightmares about RO2, but I literally remember nothing about KF having issues. Am I wrong?

I don't dislike that it's Early Access because I think they'll fuck it up (although, given the nature of the industry, you can never be certain), but rather that I'm sick and tired of companies releasing half-finished games and then finishing them piecemeal, regardless of what they call it. I want to buy it when it's done, not buy it early and hope they keep adding everything they promised and not just say 'good enough, v1.0'.
Tripwire has a great track record but I'm sick of being an unpaid beta tester, so I'll wait for a full release.

Well the best thing is, you have your choice to wait for a full release, and other people have the choice to play a game they've been waiting for.
From what I seen the game looks really fun, and throughout early access we'll be getting more and more updates added into the game.
They are even giving early access people the SDK to create maps so we won't be stuck to the same 3 during the EA period.
Seems one of the main reasons behind early access for this game is to iron out any bugs and balance issues before they release it on consoles.
some people seem so terribly uninformed about KF2's early access.
Its more of the general opinion of how bad some of the Early access games have been.
Well the best thing is, you have your choice to wait for a full release, and other people have the choice to play a game they've been waiting for.
If the existence of Early Access didn't tend to encourage developers to leave games half-finished or never deliver on their promises, then yeah, I'd call it the best of both worlds. Tripwire's got a good track record so I doubt that'll be the case here but I'd rather not support a business model that's exacerbating one of the more negative trends in the industry.
I might wait on this until it gets updated a bit more. Three maps and four perks isn't much.
It's tempting, but I'm going to wait until the full release before buying. It's not that I doubt Tripwire is going to release a great game even in early access, I just don't want to get burnt out on it before it releases with all the content (Like I have with other early access games). It looks like amazing game though
only thing i am worried about with early access for this is my perk levels potentially getting wiped on full release, but i don't know if they'd do that or not
The thing that concerns me the most is, what if they reset people's perks at some point during early access? Has there been any definite word on whether that will or will not happen?
That's another problem with early access sometimes, they reset your progress because they want to re-balance something from the ground up. Do we know for sure there won't be any kind of "perk wipe" once early access is over?
oh, above poster beat me to it
I'm probably going to hold out, $30 is a lot for EA, even if it's not as bad as the other Early Access titles.
