Gov. Paul LePage raised the possibility Tuesday that he may not finish his second term, amid mounting pressure from Democrats and members of his own party to amend for his recent actions.
“I’m looking at all options,” the Republican governor said while appearing on WVOM, a Bangor talk radio station. “I think some things I’ve been asked to do are beyond my ability. I’m not going to say that I’m not going to finish it. I’m not saying that I am going to finish it.”
He later said, “If I’ve lost my ability to help Maine people, maybe it’s time to move on.”
LePage also apologized repeatedly to Rep. Drew Gattine and his family for leaving a threatening voice mail last week.
He said he plans to invite the Westbrook representative to a face-to-face meeting to talk further.
“When I was called a racist I just lost it, and there’s no excuse,” the governor said. “It’s unacceptable. It’s totally my fault.”
Recap:
“Mr. Gattine, this is Gov. Paul Richard LePage,” a recording of the governor’s phone message says. “I would like to talk to you about your comments about my being a racist, you cocksucker [censored in original article]. I want to talk to you. I want you to prove that I’m a racist. I’ve spent my life helping black people and you little son-of-a-bitch, socialist cocksucker [censored in original article]. You … I need you to, just friggin. I want you to record this and make it public because I am after you. Thank you.”

“When a snot-nosed little guy from Westbrook calls me a racist, now I’d like him to come up here because, tell you right now, I wish it were 1825,” LePage said. “And we would have a duel, that’s how angry I am, and I would not put my gun in the air, I guarantee you, I would not be (Alexander) Hamilton. I would point it right between his eyes, because he is a snot-nosed little runt and he has not done a damn thing since he’s been in this Legislature to help move the state forward.”
God I hope so. His policies, not to mention his general attitude, have done far more harm than good. But in spite of all that, I'm impressed that he seems to be taking some responsibility for his actions.
He's holding a town hall in my hometown tomorrow. Definitely going. (Edited: Apparently the town hall's been cancelled. Not sure what that means, it could go either way.)
I don't know anything about this guy, but it sounds like he's at least handling the matter with integrity. It was a childish outburst but this is probably the best way he could step up and take responsibility for it.

It's good he's admitting fault and considering the best resolution, but he should have already resigned, and done so much sooner. Eg all it took for an Australian Premier (equivalent of a US Governor) to resign was failing to declare a gift of a bottle of wine, and a damn Prime Minister of the U.K. resigned because his country voted for something which he publicly and personally opposed.
American politicians seem to get away with so much more shit before having to consider a resignation.
There is no "taking responsibility", this is literally damage control. If a politician doing damage control after calling someone who called him racist over him being racist cocksucker is "integrity" that is a pretty low bar for integrity.
Damage control is the politician pretending he isn't wrong, but everyone else. Just this once someone's getting the hell out of office, and he'd better

The problem is he's so prone to these "childish outbursts" its ridiculous he became governor in the first place. He came to my university last year for a dedication and stormed off the stage a sentence into his speech after 2 students in the back of the crowd quietly held up signs, mumbling something about "idiots" as he ran off.
John Oliver has a 5 minute segment about what shit show this guy is.

This happened at the university in the town I live in.
also thank god he's maybe leaving. Maine needs someone who isn't horrible to be governor for once. Baldacci was pretty bad his last two years (apart from passing same-sex marriage into law).
He should resign right the fuck back to whatever century he came from
There is no sign of a lower intellect quite so significant as a "Lepage" sticker on the back of someone's car.
I haven't actually met a single person who likes him or his governorship, although I'm sure that's because I'm in the younger and lefter-leaning demographic.

Geez. Sounds like a real piece of work. Like I said, I dunno anything about him.
This guy's a total fucking trainwreck and he gives us a terrible reputation. There are several rallies planned across Maine to protest his stupid shit, so that could be why he's finally considering resignation.
a lot of people think "he's the elected representative of Maine, so this is just a reflection of what Mainers are like" and it's really shit because in the last election 52% of Maine did not vote for him, on top of the fact that he has only gotten worse as time has passed
Maine should keep this guy around just for a laugh. Even just through text you can pinpoint the moment he realizes his voicemail is going to go public and tries to save face by instructing him to publicize it lol
he should do it because hes a fucking psycho.

maybe resign from you know.. earth? go live on mars, bob lepage.
Took the fucker long enough. I'm leaving Maine and we're possibly getting rid of him. Doesn't help that he didn't rightly earn the position both terms either, Eliot Cutler throwing a wrench into both year's elections so badly one of the bills coming up is to make Maine Ranked choice voting. I'm all for third parties, hell I even like Cutler to an extent, but he's the sole reason we ended up with this moron twice in a row now.
