The General Secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, today invoked the Democratic Charter to Venezuela, an unprecedented step that opens a process that can lead to suspension of the entity.
In a 132-page report published today, Almagro makes use of Article 20 of the Charter to "request the convening of a Permanent Council of the Member States between 10 and 20 June 2016," a procedure "should attend the alteration of constitutional order and how it seriously impairs the democratic order "of Venezuela. Almagro becomes the first head of the OAS to activate the Letter to a Member State against the will of its government and does invoking Article 20, which authorizes the Secretary General or any Member State to request the immediate convocation of the Council Standing in a country where the organization "an alteration of the constitutional regime that seriously impairs the democratic order."

"The continued violations of the Constitution, especially with regard to balance of powers, performance and integration of the judiciary, human rights violations, procedure for the recall referendum and lack of responsiveness regarding the serious humanitarian crisis in the country which affects the full enjoyment of social rights of the population, "he adds.
Maduro is freaked out about this in TV and call to everyone to a national rebellion against the activation of the Letter and send message to Almagro that "That Democratic Charter can put it in a good fine tube and place it for the....." util open trial against Venezuelan parliament directive for "usurp constitutional duties of the President".

Fuck yea, hope it goes through.
I didn't know Isaac Asimov had been resurrected.
Soon:
"Maduro Solves Toilet Paper Shortages by Instructing People to Wipe their Asses with the Democratic Charter"
And then Maduro uses this to reinforce their point of view about "The americans are trying to sabotage our country!", keeping him in the power and making worse the situation, like it happened with Cuba.

For those interested, what ended up happening is that the OAS ended up writing a much lighter version of the original proposal, that Venezuela even agreed with, so it amounts to little more than a slap of the wrist. The reason why that happened, is that Argentina flipped it's stance on the issue, the reasons why are still unknown. The proposal to apply the democratic charter is still on the table.

it might be slightly hypocritical for Argentina to complain about criminal levels of corruption. still i hope they get through this without having a civil war like so many other south american countries

A civil war won't happen in Venezuela mainly because there aren't really two sides that are armed here. As for Argentina, I don't think that they flipped due to moral remorse?
