pretty much every single melody in the whole thing was entirely aimless. it straight-up sounds like thoughtless notes placed on a piano roll while going along, and i'm speaking from experience there. it also feels nothing like reggae.
my advice: go listen to a lot of dub and reggae, pay attention to the rhythm, pay attention to the melodies, learn to play the melodies on an instrument (by ear don't fucking cheat and look it up somewhere or have someone show you), and come back to this idea later. immerse yourself in the genre and show it respect or you'll have very little to show for it.
Just to clear things up, this was NEVER intended to be a verbatim reggae tune. I merely wanted to include some reggae influence. The song was intended to break free from my old routine and habits with the hopes of creating something a bit unique. I disagree with your opinion of my melody sounding "aimless", and that's fine, but it seems as if your opinion is based solely on the prospect that this was supposed to be an actual reggae song and it isn't. If it were, I would agree with you.
when you label something as "reggae-ish" then people have a certain expectation. they expect it to sound reasonably reggae-influenced. sorry if i'm being a dick dude but this doesn't sound reggae-ish in the slightest. yeah, you have that one little metallic drum thing that pops up occasionally but that's an aesthetics thing. 100% honest opinion is that this is a sub-par electronic track with a couple of reggae tropes tacked on, and you can do so much more with a reggae influence. i don't know you or how you composed this but to me, an objective listener, it doesn't sound reggae influenced but rather like something with things people know about reggae applied to it. there's a big difference. it's a genre with a rich history and loads of variants; you can do much better if you apply yourself to it.

Fair enough, I appreciate your criticism, it really helps to hear an honest opinion even though it's hard to hear. I'm going to give it another try and see if I can come up with something that has more of the reggae essence.
i look forward to it
