More jobless youngers could be made to live on the streets as the Government moves ahead with plans to end housing support payments for under-21s.
The cut, which will apply to new Universal Credit claims made after April 1, was first announced by David Cameron and included in the Conservatives’ 2015 manifesto.
Despite calls by homelessness charities for Theresa May to break with her predecessor drop the policy, on Friday officials published secondary legislation to go ahead with the plans, while most MPs were at home in their constituencies.
Just why do you want all these young people out on the streets anyway, when this won't even save a significant amount of money, but will raise costs in other ways on top of that for an overall loss?
The Tories seem hell bent on turning Britain into their private playground with every day that passes.
Holy fuck that's horrible :disgust:
I know it goes without saying, but FUCK these Tory CUNTS. Seriously.
Researchers calculated that just 140 young people would have to be made homeless by the change for knock-on costs to mean the policy actually cost taxpayers more money overall.
mhmm
Perhaps it's not about saving money, but rather about keeping the lower classes bent down.
Sick shit. Not everyone has a family to live with if shit hits the fan.
They should make the "national living wage" apply to under 25's and scrap this shit.
In the short term this might save money and look good but in the long run hello mass destitution placing a huge strain on also vanishing social services.
Because fuck us for not being over 21/25 depending on what the issue is. Were the Tories ever actually children? This makes me rage so incoherently I can't even talk about it intelligently.
Edit: Phrasing.

This is so stupid, by the way laws are being made now it seems like its going to be live with your parents till late 20s or be homeless/ stuck renting forever.

"If it doesn't effect me, it doesn't need to be there!"
-A Tory's subconscious, probably.
authorities have a certain duty of care if folks become homeless

This is just plain stupid, reading this from across the pond. My father was a meth abuser with schizophrenia and my mom would let him beat her. I got out of the situation when I was 21 because my gf let me move in with her. A lot of people don't have that luxury. I could only imagine if I had to wait.
I know the Tories are kinda known for cutting stuff but they seem to be on a roll lately.
Couldn't be anything to do with trying to save cash from leaving the EU, could it? I'm not trying to be funny here, genuinely not 100% clued up.
Well I'm fucked. So much for even trying to find somewhere to live while I'm searching for new work.
I just wana move the fuck out you know. (Still with hotel mum and dad)
I'm fucked if my parents kick it, then.
[editline]4th March 2017[/editline]
Nah, it's okay, I'm definitely fucked no matter what.
My friend who was abused by his parents as a kid was forced to leave home when he was like 16, he's got no relatives in the country and is currently living in a single room in a shared accomodation and survives almost entirely on housing benefit as there's barely any jobs around here; he's probably gonna be homeless as a result of this. Someone deserves a punch for this shit.

They still are children, big spoiled rich children.
And their continuing efforts to drag us back into the Victorian era proceed apace. Brexit being a part of it to remove any form of oversight that emanates from Europe.
Good job people.
They're making the situation worse by having an already extremely vulnerable group of people put in a worse position and open to even more dangers.
They're just putting more strain on places that deal with this kind of stuff already, not to mention taking away any sort of stability. How the fuck can you work a legit job without a permanent abode or address?
They're going to end up in prison or hospital
Man, the western democracies have been on a fucking roll these past few years.

Knowing our government, probably.
That or a last, shitty "hoorah" for the inevitable general election results when they're voted out. Leave the next party to clear up your shit, and make your party look better than them [as the next party will get the blame for the fallout from clearing up the mess] as a result.

i don't see a viable alternative though for the next G.E

Maybe and you can be sure that when we do actually leave the EU every bad thing will be blamed on the poor and the vulnerable, disabled, etc. and even more cuts will be made until all public services are so underfunded that they get derided for their incompetence and then privatised.
Yeah, I hope Theresa May gets her due if people start resorting to violence and rioting because of sit like this. IS pose less of a threat to this country than the Conservatives atm who as demonstrated have begun attempting to dismantle and defund welfare, social programs and the NHS whilst spreading a rhetoric of fear mongering and scapegoating xenophobia.
It's honestly really clear that the current government doesn't care about the people of the UK at all.
Stuff keeps getting cut and businesses keep getting propped up. The UK is shooting itself in the foot and no-one in power seems to care.
cos' fuck the lower classes amiright?
The only argument ive ever heard for targeting young people like this is "well they can always move back in with their parents!".
I have two brothers my mum has to support in a two bedroom council house, she is a single mother well into her fifties and working every single day for terrible pay, barely staying afloat without even a real bedroom to crash in at the end of the day.
The only reason I moved out in the first place was because we didn't get on, and that's putting it very very lightly. She lives a stressful life and I was her outlet for it, The bottom line is I was sick of the constant verbal abuse and felt that I was in genuine danger of being physically assaulted not only by her but by other family members that she would threaten to get involved- so I had to get out.
She was so desperate for money that she actually siphoned off a good portion of my welfare money when I first moved out without telling me, nearly costing me my flat after only a month living there . The only reason I haven't completely cut contact with my family is because I recognise that she had to steal from her own son to survive.
But it's cool Tories, I'm 22 so obviously I have a stable home I can fall back into once you screw up the safety net for the most vulnerable people in our society- and I totally wont end up on the streets. Fucking privileged selfish cunts.
