• UK Ministers seriously consider 'Volunteer Border Force'
Volunteers could be used to guard some of the UK's borders, the Home Office has said. The plans under consideration are for "Border Force Special Volunteers" to be used at small air and sea ports. A Home Office spokesman said it was "considering the potential benefits" and looking at how they are used by police forces. The Home Office said if it was to introduce volunteers, they would be used to "bolster" Border Force staffing levels and would not be used by Immigration Enforcement.

But the union which represents Border Force staff said it was risking the country's security "on the cheap". It comes after recent reports have raised concerns over "poor" coverage of some minor harbours and landing places. But Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union, called the plan "ridiculous". "Border Force are already using poorly trained seasonal workers at most ports and airports, not just at peak periods but throughout the year because of permanent staff cuts," he said. "The plans to use volunteer Border Force specials is a further move towards casualisation of the workforce."
The Guardian Independent BBC I could write a whole essay on this, but I think it really speaks for itself :disappoint:
I, for one, desperately want Fat Al from the pub to be waddling up and down the coast of Dover, bullying anyone vaguely brown and going OITE, GE' BACK T'YA' OWN FAKKIN' CUNTRY, YA' FAKKIN' MOZZY!
This would just attract the worst kind of people.
Remember how the Gestapo used to rely on volunteer informants? Hm..
I can already see hundreds of EDL members lining up to volunteer.
There are plenty of volunteer forces that work just fine though, like the RNLI
There are plenty of volunteer forces that work just fine though, like the RNLI
true but do you really expect the government to be able to run the border force on volunteers?
There are plenty of volunteer forces that work just fine though, like the RNLI
tbh most of the problem people who could abuse this volunteer force aren't the kind of people who'd volunteer for the RNLI, or even volunteer for the sakes of their country and people, they'd volunteer to "protect our borders". When you provide people with authority over others, (In this case, border patrol - Immigrants) there is a huge tendency to abuse that power. You can't abuse the power of a lifeboat, something that takes months of hard training, and is one of the most demanding roles in the country. I think what people are most afraid of is the likehood of this force being abused by people who took the job solely for the position of power it gives them.
The Home Office said if it was to introduce volunteers, they would be used to "bolster" Border Force staffing levels and would not be used by Immigration Enforcement.
It would appear the Home Office has looked into this problem and tackled it. However, I don't think I'd trust the current government to make me some toast, let alone this.
There are plenty of volunteer forces that work just fine though, like the RNLI
I can't imagine the lack of tact you must have to compare this to the RNLI, one of the most positive and beneficial volunteer forces in this country.
The UK should take a serious examination to how much chaos has erupted from American "border militias" that have been popping up the past couple of decades to see why this is a very, very bad idea.
Typical fucking Tory attitude to fucking everything. Why pay workers to do a proper job, when we can just rely on do good-ers to volunteer to do this shit for free. Rubbish on the street? Volunteer, elderly people needing full time care? Volunteer, Police? Volunteer. And this is without even opening the can of worms that is what kind of people would even sign up to do this. Racists who'll fuck it up? or how about elderly people who woudlnt be able to defend themselves from people who turn violent. Completely fucking stupid idea.

It's akin to eating crocodile or wearing flourescent green every day. You could do it, but why would you want to? It would be uncouth.
their excuse of "w-well look how well community support officers has done!" doesn't fly. even with community support officers, the police still doesn't have anywhere near enough resources to deal with the work load. case in-point the Met Police not investigating 'smaller' crimes because of cut backs. the conspiracy theorist part of me suspects that the Tories WANT public resources to fail so that they can privatise it all. NHS, police, fire service, border control, ~volunteer force~ all of them then cry crocodile tears as they hand the contract to a private company. the sad thing is, I don't think that's too far-fetched.

This kinda sounds like the American minutemen groups to me tbh. Really not sure I like the sound of it.
Ah yes, Britain’s massive border of...Ireland. A neighboring first world country. Surely this is just the conservatives desperate to try and exert influence for a crumbled “empire”. The only other soft border I could see is the Chunnel, and all you need is a checkpoint

At least, that's what I'm getting from it.
