Okay so seems like people have good ideas for games and people want to do this stuff so let's do it. What we need: We need people who can program, do music and art. If you've got any of these talents and want to donate some time, feel free to say so! Discuss game ideas, progress and so on in this thread. What's the game? So far:
top down sim in which you play a bottom-of-the-chain drug dealer who has to work his way up "independently" (you can make deals with various gangs dealers and suppliers throughout the area to boost your business but at it's core the game is about your success). random events based on your actions eg getting busted because you're slack as fuck, getting robbed due to bad business, bonuses such as unexpectedly large yields from cannabis crops and stuff, there's a lot of fun to be had. [editline]5th October 2014[/editline] it's also a shooter, not just point and click shit, if you're meeting someone and a deal goes bad and you've gone through the effort of getting yourself equipped with a weapon then you can actually engage in combat with them, no random number shit, blast the mofuckas [editline]5th October 2014[/editline] missions(?) start off slow as they'd just be simple "meet [customer] at [spot] to deliver [drugs] by [time]" and "meet [supplier] at [spot] to collect [drugs] by [time]", of course failing the first would result in a lost customer while failing the second could result in trouble with the business [editline]5th October 2014[/editline] eventually you have to take care of paying people to manage your various production schemes as well as protection (bodyguards, weapons), transport, and property. each bought property can be converted into any form of lab so long as the player purchases the necessary equipment, from standard shit like weed farms and meth labs to higher stuff like crack labs (new jack city style) and even creative stuff like lsd synthesis
Who's working on it. I'll update this once we get some stuff established. So let's start by establishing potential game ideas, what we are gonna work in, and what our goals should be. Get Updated Here! https://realtimeboard.com/app/61920662/HUSTLE/
I tried to rate funny but i fail at mobile browsing...
i've got mad experience with the source hammer level editor so i've got knowledge of level design (can obv be applied to other engines) and i can make a variety of songs for the soundtrack as well as maybe audio cues and shit i've got an old hl2 multiplayer zombie mod (it wasn't that bad) that i never finished (discovered weed) so if we were to make a horror game i've already got plenty of assets and ideas or we could make a shooter like that old facepunch mod that was made in like one week or so, something funny
Cody had a good idea:
Remember the shitty drug system of RP gamemodes on Gmod? Something like that but cooler [editline]5th October 2014[/editline] Setting: small house in suburbs/hood. Several windows, closets, 1 or 2 bedrooms. You need to find an effective arrangement for weed plants/shroom grows/meth labs and make sure they're not visible from windows. Starting cash = $100. With this and only this you need to buy enough supplies to grow drugs and support yourself, buy new supplies for new grows, buy curtains so cops can't see inside, etc. You need to buy the supplies and then combine them to start a grow, kinda like crafting? Once you harvest, the final product (perhaps depends upon how long you grew for, quality of supplies, and some randomized variables) is added to your inventory and you can sell them for cash. Initially you have 1 or 2 customers who buy your product and they will try to introduce you to friends, but you need to be careful because they might be undercover cops. Will you play the charismatic drug dealer or the paranoid drug producer. Don't let your customers see your grow ops! I think a top down game like this would be easiest. Line of sight algorithms would be easy, I think the simple AI wouldn't be too hard to program. Thoughts? Ideas?
i started the planning to make a horror game a while ago, here's a load of ideas i came up with www.realtimeboard.com/app/58525659/Spooky/
A top down 2d game would probably be a pretty good idea
oh shit that sounds way better than a shitty horror [editline]5th October 2014[/editline] fuck you automerge
i started the planning to make a horror game a while ago, here's a load of ideas i came up with www.realtimeboard.com/app/58525659/Spooky/
this is p cool [editline]5th October 2014[/editline] automerge shenanigans [editline]5th October 2014[/editline] btw if we do a 2d game I can do art things I should probably point that out
me and my friend always had an idea called griggs & sheckley: antlion defense. you play as griggs and sheckley, the antlion fighting rebels in hl2 episode two and you fight off waves of antlions in a top down perspective similar to alien swarm. or a game thats set in the future, all of humanity are on a big spaceship (like wall-e or something) and they have to send out squads to invade other planets and galaxies and steal their resources. you play as a badass captain who warps to different galaxies and fights everything there in order to steal their stuff, the game works by spawning you on a big grid plate in the middle of a new zone and a group of "gatherers" (some sort of minions or slaves) scatter around the spawning area and collect resources (points), meanwhile the native creatures will try to fight them and your job is to kill fuckin everything. resources are spent on upgrading gear and equipping the spawning pad (since it's like some sort of space travel device too) with weaponry and defenses to protect you and the gatherers. i think it'd be fun to play an over-the-top massacre of all sorts of different aliens so you can loot their shit in order to buy more shit to kill shit. sounds cool.

^this game is top down [editline]5th October 2014[/editline] fuck your automerge
would be hard to do i guess but i'd buy it [editline]5th October 2014[/editline] and fuck yours too  some 2d games can be pretty scary, look at Eversion
i can definitely do the soundtrack for a game in which you shred up aliens in a brutal greed-fuelled massacre, hell yea
^this game is top down [editline]5th October 2014[/editline] fuck your automerge
Doesn't have to be top own it's just an option. We should figure out where we want it to go then we can decide the best way of playing from there.
naaaaaw man lets kill shit
Also, any programmers interested? If so what do you program in?
What's isometric mean? Also, which programming language should we use? I know that Python has great libraries including PyGame which I have experience in, but it's kinda limited. Unity + C# is easy and we could make it 2D/3D just by changing the location of the camera. I also have experience with C#. C++ with OpenGL/CL would be the hardest, unless anybody here has extensive knowledge of those libs. [editline]5th October 2014[/editline] The level editor for Unity is stupid easy, and really fun
i think top down 3d models look fuckin cool
I think we should avoid unity, due to difficulties when working with groups of people tbh. If anyone had any experience we could work in something simple like love2d or something.
i've got maaaaaaaad experience with source
I think we should avoid unity, due to difficulties when working with groups of people tbh. If anyone had any experience we could work in something simple like love2d or something.
LOVE2d is another great option, and Lua is easy to work with.
Love2d + Dropbox makes working in groups super simple, and it's easy for people to use.
It would be cool if we could use source levels, but does anybody have experience coding Source mods? Should we make a Source/HL mod?
if we make a source mod, i can do the mapping. i know hammer inside and out. always wanted to make one just couldn't ever find a programmer.
Have they updated Hammer since the 1999 release? lol
yea
Once
IDK if a source mod is the best idea, yeah people can map in hammer but overall it would be a lot more work.
yea fuck source lets do something new
i might be able to do art things? [t]http://puu.sh/atuvu/4164b1ea9e.jpg[/t][t]http://puu.sh/ag7xs/b9e3c8737b.png[/t] [t]http://puu.sh/aeAhx/d3efc60cae.jpg[/t][t]http://puu.sh/c0t8z/fb270eef22.png[/t] from left to right: concept art for a 3d model in tf2, self portrait, movie art, play poster idk pretty specific style; lends itself a lot to tf2's style
