Britain could be forced to hold European elections on Sundays as part of a blatant EU bid to erase our long democratic tradition.
For 72 years, elections to Westminster have been held on a Thursday, with local elections also being held on the first Thursday in May.
Proposals from the European Commission would see the UK having to fall in line behind most of the continent, where elections are held on Sundays.
Britain has been urged by Brussels to move its elections for the European Parliament to Sunday rather than hold them on a Thursday - the traditional day for voting since the Second World War - under plans to create a common European Union polling day.
The European Commission issued the call alongside a proposal that Europe’s political groups should present candidates for the role of the next President of the European Commission in their campaigns for the next European Parliament, the election for which will be held in May next year.
EDIT: some of the daily mail comments because they are just as insightful as the daily mail article

To be honest, I don't care on what day of the week I vote to leave the EU.
I tend to disagree with any dictate from Europe on principle - just tell them to get stuffed. UKIP for me.
What difference does it make to Europe what day we vote ? They just can bear it when we do something different to them.
sunday is an excellent choice much better for most people who work. Gives us a better chance to involve the children to pass on the very important tradition of voting. Get over yourselves DM just because its a EU idea!

Good God, someone with common sense?
who cares
a vague 72 year old tradition that nobody has ever paid attention to before is hardly some kind of heritage
First they came for Tuesday.

True patriots care, because first Brussels will take your election day, next year we'll take away your election itself!
But seriously, Just thought it might be worth a heads-up so people aren't surprised when it happens.
Fine! Bollocks to them!
I won't vote for any of them in the Eurovision this year!
Damn EU socialists threatening our british values!
A dark day it is that Brussels tells us what to do.
72 years is not a tradition, it's just a moderately long time.

Honestly, it's going to be a minor suggestion by some low ranking member of something that has no effect on anything.

Clearly the government just wants us to carry on voting on Tuesday because the only reason they could keep in power is if too many people are busy feeding their families by working to vote on a work day.
I don't get why we have elections on Thursdays anyway. Weekend makes more sense to me.

It also makes sense on a EU bureaucratic level. You know, the whole point of this suggestion.
