Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D airs Tuesdays on ABC at 8pm Eastern / 7pm Central.
PREMIERES THIS TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th!
Alternate Thread Title : Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D : Let's Get a Shawarma and Kill Nick Fury

A sci-fi action comedy/drama created by Joss Whedon that follows Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents for the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division). Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary.
The series takes place after the events of The Avengers movie, in the same Marvel universe and timeline, so theoretically New York should be a busted up stinking hell hole (insert New Jersey joke here). Appearances by major Marvel characters seem doubtful (at least at first!), but I'm sure we'll get some low rent equivalents -- so strap yourself in for the introduction of "Very Large Angry Man" and "Flying Metal Suit Person" during the first season.

Avengers was entertaining, and showed a good mix of action and comedic interplay between the leads, Joss Whedon usually makes for good show (a season or so in), and ABC/Disney will probably throw some money at the special effects and action bits at least for a while.
Plus the trailer seems pretty impressive, though spoilery for the first episode. The same goes for the Character Profiles, which spoil lots of the jokes. If you're already going to watch, I'd say skip all media and just dive right into the show!

Official Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PerIAuv27SQ (contains lots of first episode shots, so you may want to skip it!)
Come on, it'll be fun!

Whedon has constructed the building blocks for the show alongside his co-creators, who will take over as show runners for the main series. Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen are family, and worked with Whedon on Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, while Jeff Bell comes in with a bit more established history in T.V. as an Exec. Producer and Writer, having worked on one of Whedon's previous projects, Angel

Jeffrey Bell
Initially best known as show runner and head writer of the last two seasons of Angel, Jeff Bell has been an executive producer on several other big name shows as well, such as Alias and Day Break . He is most likely on the team to provide some day-to-day experience as a show runner / producer / writer.
Role: Exec. Producer, Showrunner, Writer
Known For: The Protector (Exec. Producer, Writer. S. 1), Harper's Island (Exec. Jeph Loeb
An established comic book writer on Batman and Superman before heading over to Marvel to work on Hulk, Iron Man, and the Avengers, Loeb was eventually promoted to oversee Marvel's brand as Head of Television for Marvel, where he has served as Executive Producer on all Marvel's animated content. He also has experience producing and writing on live action genre shows.
Role: Exec. Producer
Known For: Marvel's Animated T.V. shows (Iron Man, Iron Man:Armored Adventures, The Avengers : Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Ultimate Spider-Man, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. (Exec. Producer), Heroes (Exec. Producer, Writer - 4 Eps. S. 1-3), Lost (Supervising Producer.
With no big stars in the major series roles, Whedon is banking on a combination of established character actors and hopeful newcomers to make something special, much like he's done with his previous series. There are planned appearances by bigger stars in guest roles however, which ABC/Disney may increase in regularity if the series needs a bump at some point in the future. Samuel L. Jackson has mentioned he'd be interested in making a guest appearance, and Cobie Smulders is already signed on for a set of episodes.

Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson
Agent Coulson has worked for S.H.I.E.L.D under Director Nick Fury for years, appearing in Iron Man 1 & 2, Thor, and the Avengers as the major recruiter of superheroes to the Avengers Initiative. When last we saw Agent Phil Coulson in The Avengers movie, he was lying dead on the deck of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier after Loki shish kabobbed him from behind with the golden staff of ultimate power (not a euphemism). Through some as yet unknown method, Agent Coulson finds himself back in the land of the living, though he's not quite sure how or what happened. The question of how he's returned will be an important mystery the show explores through the season as part of Coulson's existential crisis. For now, Coulson focuses on his job heading the division's field operations, and he's eager to get to work forming a specialized team of individuals to brave the post-Battle of New York world. He believes this small team of regular people, when working together, can make just as much of a difference as those with super powers. (earnest face)
Character Profile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3aYXim7AEw
Actor Bio: Clark Gregg got his big break playing Agent Coulson in the Marvel movie series, though he's been working as an established character actor since the 80's. You may have seen him in such diverse roles as FBI Agent, Cop, Cop's Partner, Federal Agent in a different Department, or Kid's Dad (possibly ex-cop).
Where you might have seen him before: Pretty much every Marvel movie since Iron Man, The New Adventures of Old Christine (Richard Campbell - not a cop?), The Shield (William Faulks - serial rapist turned serial killer), The West Wing (FBI Special Agent Michael Casper - FBI Agent), The Commish (Tom Cannon - gonna guess some kind of Agent of something)

Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May
Agent May is an expert pilot and martial artist (wow -- what a shocking twist!). Though she was once a legend in the agency, she mysteriously resigned herself to a quiet desk job in recent years.
Character Profile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQsRW4gtt0E
Actor Bio: Ming-Na Wen is probably the best known of the actors starring as series regulars, having had a major role on several established shows in the past. Also apparently she plays Finn's Mom on Adventure Time? Soooo…..
Where you might have seen her before: Eureka (U.S. Senator Michaela Wen), SGU : Stargate Universe (Camile Wray), ER (Dr. Jing-mei "Deb" Chen), Mulan (Mulan)

Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward
Agent Ward is black ops specialist trained in combat and espionage, skilled with a gun, but likely to trip over his tongue when trying to get his point across. Gruff, antisocial, but always cool under fire and fiercely loyal, he would give his life for S.H.I.E.L.D. Also bakes a mean double-double chocolate fudge brownie.
Character Profile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYZ_zf2Z54Q
Actor Bio: Dalton is fairly new to the T.V. scene - Whedon is banking he'll break out as a star with his mix of charm and awkwardness in the role of Agent Ward.
Where you might have seen him before: A few one-shot roles on T.V. shows I cannot be bothered to paste urls for. But look at that chin!

Chloe Bennet as Skye
Skye is a civilian new recruit and computer hacker with a mysterious past. Described as "bubbly and goofy" but "also warm, edgy and witty", with "a vast knowledge of code." (whoever described her this way is not inspiring much confidence) Skye is obsessed with superheroes. She will also probably say many terrible things about "hacking the code".
Character Profile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CxotaKxXZ4
Actor Bio: Originally getting her start as a singer, Bennet lived and recorded songs in China until she nabbed a role a co-host of the Teen Nick television show The Nightlife. (Ted Koppel looks great with crimped bangs! Wait, that's Nightline…). Recently she's been appearing in a regular role on Nashville, as Hailey (Koppel was originally signed on for the role but had to leave after the pilot because of prior commitments)
Where you might have seen her before: Pretty sure I mentioned Nashville (Hailey)…

Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz
Leo Fitz is a brilliant but socially awkward engineer (whodathunkit?), specializing in weapons technology. Fitz is always on the same wavelength as his research partner, Jemma Simmons -- the two of them are an inseparable pair, though he's a little green, having never been in the field before.
Character Bio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRaQ9or7mj0
Actor Bio: Caestecker started as a child actor, and is probably best known for his roles on several BBC series, though he's nabbed a role in the movie adaptation of Irvine Welsh's "Filth", as well as the lead role in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, "How to Catch a Monster" - a sequel to "How to Catch a Dragon" set in the gritty streets of L.A., where an awkward, brooding dragon falls in love with his neighbor after burning a man alive in an elevator.
Where you might have seen him before: Young James Herriot (James Herriot), The Fades (Paul), Coronation Street (Adam Barlow)

Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons
Genius bio-chemist Jemma Simmons is a rising star in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s research division along with her inseparable partner, Leo Fitz. The two are usually found bickering, but they are always found together. Simmons has a love for science and a wide-eyed enthusiasm for the world that makes this opportunity to work in the field the adventure of a lifetime. (Whedon will probably kill her in the season finale…)
Character Bio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRaQ9or7mj0 (same as Fitz's)
Actor Bio: Another English transplant, Henstridge booked a role in a J.J. Abrams / One Tree Hill creator pilot that no one cares about, before starring in a movie with Sylvester Stallone set to release in 2014 that no one's going to see. So, the sky's the future!
Where you might have seen her before: Nope.

Whedon has assembled what appears to be, at least on paper, a fairly solid team of T.V. writers with a history in sci-fi, genre, and action shows to fill out the writing staff.

Didn't realize this until now, but Whedon nabbed a great name to handle the music duties for the series.

Bear McCreary
Established as one of the major go-to guys for sci-fi / fantasy TV music scores, you probably know McCreary best for his amaze-balls work on Battlestar Galactica. Honestly his involvement gets me more excited than it probably should. Dat music!

Yesss!!
Ew, how is NCIS Los Angeles even still on the air?
It looks like it has exactly that serious-yet-silly atmosphere that Firefly and the Avengers had. And it starts being broadcast in the UK a few days before my birthday. Score
Ew, how is NCIS Los Angeles even still on the air?
It's gotten better towards then end. I don't really like it that much either to be honest.
I haven't watched any NCIS itself in a number of years, it got a bit too samey after a while.
Just started watching Person of Interest though and it's pretty damn good.
And yes, I'm well aware that all of these shows seem similar on paper in that they all deal with branches of the government or deal with the government itself in some shape or form.

I like that it stayed somewhat the same. I just like their characters so much. So stereotypical.
Yeah, they're good characters but I guess my interest in the show died once I discovered serialized television.
Can't stand procedurals anymore.
I am so looking forward to this.
Your Chloe Bennet link takes me to Brett Dalton's IMDB page.
Can't edit the post without it getting all erased for some reason.
For now:

Hyped as fuck.
Bear Mcreary does amazing scores, I have high hopes for this show's music.
Something is going to have to try to fill the Breaking Bad-shaped hole in my heart. I'm hoping this captures the spirit of the movies, especially the first Iron Man and The Avengers, because they were genuinely fun movies.
Well that was MUCH better than what I thought it was going to be. The opening scene felt a little cheesy. I think it was the set or something.
It was great though! Defiantly will keep on watching.
Quite fun to watch
Not bad/pretty good out of 10
That was excellent. My DVR cut off the last thirty seconds, but I'm really excited for more episodes!
That was excellent. My DVR cut off the last thirty seconds, but I'm really excited for more episodes!
Did you get the the line that they are planning on doing post-credit scenes for the show in future episodes?
I was distracted half the time but it was interesting. Not sure if I liked it. I'm gonna give it my undivided attention later though with a second watch and come up with an opinion.
I wonder what the endgame is for [sp]Mike Peterson since they wiped his identity and even though Extremis was wiped out of his system I think, he still should have super strength because he was only given it to stabilize the serum injection. I hope he become the movieverse version of Power Man.[/sp]
That was actually much better than what I was expecting, classic Whedon wit everywhere.
I like the cast too, they seem like they'll be really fun together.
Did you get the the line that they are planning on doing post-credit scenes for the show in future episodes?
The fact that I have no idea what you're talking about means that I most certainly missed it.
The fact that I have no idea what you're talking about means that I most certainly missed it.
Looks like you are going to have to inflate the viewer numbers of The Goldbergs and record that show too then.
Just finished the premier. Damn it's good to have a Joss show back on my TV. Not as good as Firefly, but it's tied with Angel at the moment, which is a damn fine thing.
The only thing I didn't like was [sp]the hover-car.[/sp] That was a bit groan worthy.
My favorite moment from the show:
[sp]"Welcome to level 7... It was dark in that corner, I couldn't resist... I think a light's broken there..."[/sp]
A perfect character-establishing-moment if I ever saw one.

[sp]It was a reference to Howard Stark's prototype red hovercar from the 40s.[/sp]
I watched it again and I'm really on the fence on this one. It was really, really narmy, but I can excuse that because I'm big on campy things like this as long as it's not excessively bad.
I feel like the character of Coulson is inconsistent. He worked really well as a foil to those around him in previous movies, but on his own as a figure of authority I'm not sure he has the chops to make it. I think the goofy, quiet guy with nerves of steel could pay off but at times it felt like his demeanor didn't suit him. [sp]For example, when he yells at the two lab techs whose names I forgot to just "get it done," it came across as out of character and almost as if he was ineffectual as a leader.[/sp]
That said, many other moments really worked with his character. His goofy, innocent grin made for some great moments. [sp]My favorite moment was when Skye was in her van making a broadcast of some sort, and Coulson just opens the door with his signature grin.[/sp]
I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and watch a few more episodes. It seems like it could genuinely be fun, so I'm excited in seeing what they can do.
I am curious on [sp]what is really going on with Coulson, especially since we know the Tahiti story is a lie.[/sp]
There are so many routes they could go.

The most popular theory is that he is an [sp]android or a clone of some sorts[/sp]
