The link says it all.
So we lost the Other OS feature, now we get the I-Do-What-I-Want-Because-Am-Sony feature, an EULA update which probably 99.99999999% of the users don't read.
For you who don't feel like reading that. There was first an EULA change. Generally users don't read the EULA, but those who do, had to read it AFTER buying their PS3 (lol?). And not only that, but now they changed it. Like you buy a house, and the contract is changed after buying... Go figure!
Anyway, the new change brought something new with it. Sony can now update the PS3 firmware without you accepting, that's cool? it's not.
With the loss of the Other OS feature, many decided to refuse updates, now they have to unplug it and stay offline. Staying offline means all what staying offline means (ye good ol' times of PS2 and PSX times). But imagine that the next games are version locked? (which happened with a certain famous title, I think) You won't be able to play unless you bow to dear Sony and upgrade your PS3.

Sony always do this, the PSP is a perfect example. The community always fucks them over one way or the other though. I'd bet £1000 that one of the reasons the PSP gets so many updates to the product line is due to Sony's constant pursuit in destroying homebrew.

These firmware updates aren't a few KBs. You'd know if you were downloading a major update.

Pretty much this. It's the same with the Wii as well, neither will let you use any of their online functions unless it is fully updated.
Not letting you refuse an update is pretty BS, though.

Why do you have to pay a fee for a connection that's nearly the same as Sony. Just because you have to [I]pay[/I] for it, doesn't necessarily make it a better service.

Hey, when Garry's Mod gets an update, you either have to update it, or else you can't play on any server that isn't updated. I don't really see how this is any different, apart from the whole updates are accepted automatically.

I'm a tool? What you pay for is the service that is Xbox live, I pay more per month for the fucking internet. Just because you can't afford 50 dollars a year doesn't make others "tools", how about you go mow a fucking lawn, you 12 year old tool.
