• It's over! Congress agrees to end government shutdown, avert debt default
Washington (CNN) -- Weeks of bitter stalemate gave way to a frenetic few hours of legislative action Wednesday to address the federal government's latest budgetary crisis -- an episode marked by rare bipartisanship, but also the very real prospect of more fights to come. The GOP-led House gave the final stamp of approval to the Senate-brokered bill, passing it easily late Wednesday night. But it wasn't Republicans who made it happen; a majority of that party's caucus actually voted against the measure, which only passed because of overwhelming Democratic support. The legislation now goes to President Barack Obama, who earlier in the night promised to do his part to end the partial government shutdown and raise the nations' borrowing limit. "I will sign it immediately," the President said. "We'll begin reopening our government immediately." When he does, it will be just in time given warnings the federal government could have run out of money to pay its bills had Congress not acted to hike the so-called debt ceiling. The debt cushion now extends through February 7, with current spending levels being authorized through January 15. That means a few months of breathing room, but little more. After all, the bill doesn't address many of the contentious and complicated issues -- from changes to entitlement programs to tax reform -- that continue to divide Democrats and Republicans. "We think that we'll be back here in January debating the same issues," John Chambers, managing director of Standard and Poor's rating service, told CNN on Wednesday night "... This is, I fear, a permanent feature of our budgetary process." The heads of the Senate and House budget committees -- Democratic Sen. Patty Murray of Washington and GOP Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin -- will meet Thursday with an eye on addressing these budget divides. They'll helm budget negotiations intended to come up with a broader spending plan for the rest of fiscal year 2014, which ends on September 30. Obama, for one, didn't seem in the mood Wednesday night for more of the same -- saying politicians in Washington have to "get out of the habit of governing by crisis."
http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/16/politics/shutdown-showdown/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 Praying like hell this isn't late, I scoured SH looking for another thread.

My Freedom Is Restored
this is dumb because its such a temporary solution and anybody who thinks this is a victory or a success should understand that we will be in the same position once again in february

Hah, we'll doing this whole thing again next year guys don't worry.
this is dumb because its such a temporary solution and anybody who thinks this is a victory or a success should understand that we will be in the same position once again in february
At least it's a moment to catch our breath.
Sorry for shutting down your explanation of the shutdown of the shutdown being shut down.
your face is about to experience a shutdown from the legislative power of my fist
At least it's a moment to catch our breath.
yeah but its like the kind of breath when you are getting pulled downstream and then you force your head to the surface somehow and manage to get one breath but then you get shoved down again and drown 5 minutes later
Well more and more people are seeing how low the GOP can go when they don't get what they want, because they're a bunch of fucking babies.
one good outcome is that this event can be used as a simile during sporting events [img_thumb]http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq302/Jaylor09/1395142_10202204362453224_1497118472_n_zps2867d0d8.jpg[/img_thumb]
yeah but its like the kind of breath when you are getting pulled downstream and then you force your head to the surface somehow and manage to get one breath but then you get shoved down again and drown 5 minutes later
True, but if we can make it to November 2014, I think we'll make it alright. That's when midterm elections start and I can't see the GOP or the Tea Party for that matter, survive the public hate after at least one, possibly two, government fuck ups like this.
Rate me dumb why the hell that happened? In any case, It's a relief, tought something big were coming.
Rate me dumb why the hell that happened? In any case, It's a relief, tought something big were coming.
To quote the article, "rare bipartisanship".
To quote the article, "rare bipartisanship".
It wasn't really that bipartisan, though, was it? The majority of the GOP voted Nay, but the Dem vote was unanimous.
It wasn't really that bipartisan, though, was it? The majority of the GOP voted Nay, but the Dem vote was unanimous.
It was enough bipartisanship to get things working.
so basically nothing will improve or what?
so basically nothing will improve or what?
Well...nothing will deteriorate. That's progress. Right?....Right?
Well...nothing will deteriorate. That's progress. Right?....Right?
...We'll take it!
Well...nothing will deteriorate. That's progress. Right?....Right?
if anything, "Remaining the same" is like... lets take a turd, and instead of at least trying to fan it off / add glitter / spraying it with febreeze, you're not even trying to do anything, it only remains a turd, and nothing happens. It's not even a prettier turd, it's just a turd.
if anything, "Remaining the same" is not only a lack of improvement but a lack of anything happening AKA it's probably WORSE at least if you're fucking up the country you're doing SOMETHING rather than absolutely nothing.
Apparently Good > Bad > Average?
Apparently Good > Bad > Average?
even if you fuck it up at least you tried so bad still gets a D- for effort. Better than not doing it and failing? :v: though of course having the world economy getting worse is worse than it not going down the shitter, but in terms of "Trying to do something", it's better to have tried to do something. [sp]I mostly edited that out because I reread it and went "wow what the fuck am I even typing this makes no sense like what the hell am i doing oh shit better delete it before anyone sees it[/sp]
if anything, "Remaining the same" is like... lets take a turd, and instead of at least trying to fan it off / add glitter / spraying it with febreeze, you're not even trying to do anything, it only remains a turd, and nothing happens. Took them long enough.
