The title pretty much sums it up. I plan on making a proper thread when I get back home. (Home is San Fransisco, CA) Let me summarize my trip so far: I am 16 years old. My mom, dad, lil bro and I just crossed the south pacific in a 45-foot sailboat. We left from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on March 26th, 2011. It was roughly 3,000 nautical miles from Mexico to the Marquesan island Fatu Hiva, our first landfall. The crossing took 23 days to complete, we arrived in Fatu Hiva on April 18th. We lost our refrigeration a week into the crossing, but other than that it was a fairly smooth journey. Since our first landfall, we progressed through some of the Marquesas, and recently moved on to the Tuamotus. We are currently anchored in a Tuamotan atoll called Fakarava (At the north end, near the village if you want to google earth it). I know, pics or it didn't happen. Here are a few pictures: (All three were taken in the Marquesas) Me with the largest tiki in French Polynesia: http://i.imgur.com/umj47.jpg View of a small cove from a hike on the island Hiva Oa: http://i.imgur.com/i9SZY.jpg First land after 23 days at sea: http://i.imgur.com/nuyWl.jpg Unfortunately we will be leaving tomorrow morning for an atoll north of here, probably with no wifi. So, I have about 10 hours of internet access left. So yeah, ask me anything about my trip! PS: I also swam across the equator (Not shitting you). PPS: If you don't believe me, look at the little flag under my avatar.
Are you a virgin? (anything is anything) (User was banned for this post ("Snipe" - Big Dumb American))
This is a Fast Thread.
Can I see a picture of the boat? What did you do for fun?
Are you a virgin? (anything is anything)
No. Please keep the questions serious.
This is a Fast Thread.
I was going to post this in fast threads, but I thought it would be too lengthy for it.
Did you meet anyone out in the middle of the ocean?
Have you experienced any big storms?
Can I see a picture of the boat? What did you do for fun?
I don't have any pictures of my boat on my computer, but it is a Jeanneau 45 if you want to google it. For fun... Well basically, fishing, computer, iPod, reading. I probably used my laptop for well over half the trip.
-snip-
A 46 foot boat would have reached land sooner, why did you not consider this before leaving?
Did you meet anyone out in the middle of the ocean?
We saw a japanese fishing vessel 3 nautical miles from us, but other than that, no.
Have you experienced any big storms?
Not really, although we did go through many short-lived squalls. (A squall is a tiny rain/lightning/wind storm) [editline]10th June 2011[/editline]
A 46 foot boat would have reached land sooner, why did you not consider this before leaving?
We seriously considered buying a 46 foot boat, but we decided we couldn't afford the extra $20. :v:
That sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to do this.
What was it like being in the middle of the ocean with only water in sight for hundreds of miles?
No. Please keep the questions serious. I was going to post this in fast threads, but I thought it would be too lengthy for it.
Do I need to remind you where you are? :v:
That sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to do this.
Come on down, we have room for one more! :buddy:
We saw a japanese fishing vessel 3 nautical miles from us, but other than that, no.
Was it big?
What was it like being in the middle of the ocean with only water in sight for hundreds of miles?
Not that bad really, you get used to it. I thought it was pretty cool. P.S. did I mention I swam across the equator? [editline]10th June 2011[/editline]
Was it big?
Yeah, about 300 feet or so.
I need to ask a serious one: Were there any kinds of international laws/customs that applied to your journey that you had to follow while at sea?
I need to ask a serious one: Were there any kinds of international laws/customs that applied to your journey that you had to follow while at sea?
Not that I know of, except for the law "No plastics or oil overboard".
Not that I know of, except for the law "No plastics or oil overboard".
Yeah that's the kind of thing I meant Also, where did you poop and how did you wipe
Did you wank?
Yeah that's the kind of thing I meant Also, where did you poop and how did you wipe
We have two marine toilets on board. Yes I wiped. [editline]10th June 2011[/editline]
Did you wank?
Yes. Thank god my cabin door has a lock.
What did you eat? Did you piss into the ocean?
Have a map of the route you took on the trip?
What did you eat? Did you piss into the ocean?
We stocked up on tons of food just before we left mexico. We had more than enough to last a month. We have two toilets on board, like I said before, but I pissed overboard just for fun sometimes :v:
Is your cock large? [editline]10th June 2011[/editline]
We stocked up on tons of food just before we left mexico. We had more than enough to last a month.
Have a map of the route you took on the trip?
I have a partial map, It shows our route up to day 10. http://i.imgur.com/AXAF3.jpg
I am an Avid sailor so I have a few questions: Make and model of the boat? Get any foul weather/squalls along the way? Ovb asked above- Can I see charts please :D I'm sure I'll think of a few others. For now thats it! Glad to hear you had a good trip always nice to see another sailor about. Edit: And most of those were answered in my delay!
To give you an idea on just how big the Pacific is, you can rotate a globe to where you see nothing but water with small slivers of land just on the horizon. Even with modern tracking systems and radar you are really at the mercy of the ocean. Should have an emergency where you have to abandon ship, there's a good chance you won't be found alive, or at all for that matter. It really takes balls to go out there in a sailboat.
A 46 foot boat would have reached land sooner, why did you not consider this before leaving?
You do know that the size.... never mind... I just can't even.
