The game mechanics look incredibly interesting. Has anybody actually heard anything about this game?
I've been following their updates on Facebook for a while now. Croteam shares their stuff all the time.
One of the interesting tidbits I remember is them asking people to go jogging for X amount of time and record their fluid loss rate - so that they could use the data in the game
Seems like it has at least a modicum of quality going for it. Will keep an eye on this, looks interesting.
why couldn't they leave the zombies out of this
"having a slow buddy when zombies are chasing you is a life saver!" :v:

I would actually prefer a Long Dark game like this. Next to no weapons, and enemies come in the form of cold, starvation and wolves

Wont be surprised that once its released, people mod in these modes.
SCUM is worth following just for the dev videos alone, shits hilarious and what they're adding is very unique considering its such a rehashed genre.

I'm pretty sure this games been around since the zombies fad started or around that time at least, not that that's an excuse
Can't find the video but wasn't this the game with the really weird targeting system where you can see people through walls and stuff by default?
Oh boy, another DayZ clone with zombies? This sure seems interesting and unique!

Not exactly, it depends on what level your character is on whatever the skill was, it has some pretty interesting looking mechanics like someone above said
good. my jailbreak game remake plans stay intact

I'm all for games like that if they're actually done well, unlike DayZ.

I'm glad they are looking into all these systems - they are neat.
However, will they make a fun game? Not saying that yes or no is the case: but, even logical, well structured, and well balanced systems can dictate an optimal game-play that is not fun.

(not fun to their target audience I should say - which looks like arma or PUBG players?)
Looks like another four horsemen of early access type game tbh

why is this youtube channel reuploading all the videos and getting 100x the views of the actual dev channel?
To me it seems like they're aiming for the DayZ crowd who never got the game they were looking for.
Even though this has all the signs of a bad early access game, I feel like these devs are doing a lot of things right. It wouldn't surprise me if SCUM ends up being half decent and if the devs keep listening to the players, nothing is stopping the game from becoming something pretty awesome
The DayZ target sounds reasonable - I remember some great fun there creeping slowly along and being scared shitless about people seeing run through a field being overlooked by forest (Arma 2 mod).
However, I'd be weary of devs taking player comments as the holy grail (not that you were implying such). It just concerns me when devs change things significantly due to player feedback in an early access title since the reasons for x / y mechanic might be clear until the devs are closer to release.
What is unique about this? I don't even see what this has to do with prison, it just looks like a DayZ clone. Like, can someone explain how it's not just a DayZ clone?

Well apart from what they have shown in the dev videos, it's on a better engine I imagine and looks/runs better.
Croteam made this? Serious Sam Croteam?
'scum' and 'world prison'? is Alex Jones a developer?
I thought this was going to actually be a game about the movie Scum lol
Croteam made this? Serious Sam Croteam?
gamepires is the developer of this game, croteam's just helping them with some stuff. croteam's main focus is on serious sam 4 at the moment
the guy narrating these videos, john dick, is the voice actor for serious sam. fun fact

As mentioned by Hogie bear the engine is different.
Other than that, I think the biggest difference from the videos above are "RPG-like" elements. Character builds / attribute / stats that change the mechanics between characters:
* Having faster / slower characters that have (presumably) trade-offs of each
* Active Abilities (like vision focus) that trade stamina for some bonus (like seeing hidden things)
* Passive Skills that augment various qualities of a particular character (like being quieter)
* Weight management that seems beefed up (weight changes all animation times, walking speed, stealth, noise generated)
* Visibility of players seems to be more like world of tanks than DayZ - Abilities and Skills combined with environmental factors (stance, concealment, cover, lighting, weather, etc) might mean that player A doesn't even have player B rendered on their screen.
Those are the ones I remembered from the videos.
Granted, not saying this isn't doing the same thing DayZ does overall - but it DOES seem like they have put thought into stuff. But as mentioned, I'm not yet convinced this game will be fun.
The character management overall is way, WAY more in-depth than DayZ. Not only you have RPG-like stats, there's also skills, sickness, even how you eat affects how your character shits (no video on this but they did show an artist looking at pictures of poop)
What I like about all this is that it's not a complexity that'd make me feel like I have to learn it and get used to everything. Like learning ten different things before even walking. Game feels like I'll be able to easily manage these things and not get overloaded because, hey, it's all stuff I do in life. Just in different situations.
I hope they fully think through the item interactions with wetness. There definitely needs to be like a dry-case, a dry-bag, and maybe even a plastic bag that deteriorates very fast.
The case would only have a few small slots, but it would keep whatever is inside completely dry (matches anyone?) and the dry-bag would keep everything inside dry, but presumably have slightly less space than a normal backpack or something. Also, the drybag should make your buoyancy higher when swimming since it traps air inside.
Phwoar yea I do love me some system based videogames
