Spicer walked away from the podium as reporters asked — and then shouted — questions about the women's marches without answering questions. "Before I get to the news of the day, I think I’d like to discuss some of the coverage of the last 24 hours," Spicer told reporters. "Some members of the media were engaged in deliberately false reporting." The new press secretary complained of two issues: ► A tweet by a Time Magazine reporter saying that Trump had removed a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. from the Oval Office, replacing it with one of Winston Churchill. But the King bust was simply relocated to another spot in the office. The reporter quickly corrected the error, but the inaccurate information was also distributed to other reporters via a pool report. "This was irresponsible and reckless," Spicer said. ► Crowd estimates of the inaugural. Spicer said photographs were deliberately selected to make the crowds look smaller than they are — in part because ground coverings used for the first time to protect the grass made the empty spots look emptier, he said. (Similar ground cover was used on the Mall during President Obama's 2013 inauguration, which was more heavily attended.) "No one had numbers because the National Park Service, which controls the National Mall, does not put those out," he said. "This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration period, both in person and around the globe," he said.
Image speaks for itself... Is this going to be like the 12 Days of Christmas, instead it's the 1460 Days of Trump? "On the second day of Trump-kas, his presidency gave to me... a terrible press conference!"
I disagree with the notion that the MLK bust being moved/removed was newsworthy in and of itself, but the bit about this being the most witnessed inauguration, at least in person, is blatantly incorrect.
"No one had numbers because the National Park Service, which controls the National Mall, does not put those out," he said. "This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration period, both in person and around the globe," he said.
"No one had the numbers, National Mall, does not put those out, it was the largest audience ever" lol come on how do you say that then lie about the numbers How do you call the media fake then lie yourself, jesus christ
"No one had the numbers, National Mall, does not put those out, it was the largest audience ever" lol come on how do you say that then lie about the numbers
Ok thats what I thought. He literally contradicted himself. This wasn't even 5 minutes later. It was pretty much the next damn sentence.
First day on the job and his Press Secretary blatantly lies to the press. Not a great start.
Petty briefing. The Government is whining about Tweets now.
The "ground coverings" are definitely not what make the crowd look bare. It's the lack of people that make the crowd look bare lol.
Even Fox News thinks this is retarded
God, this is like the first episode of Black Mirror, except less dramatic and intense. Imagine appointing someone who can't do their job right on the first day addressed to millions of people.
Good to see the government's new way of handling critical reporting is to just insist its all fake. Post-truth world indeed
First day of presidency and the Press Secretary makes a statement so transparently false, it's practically see-through. Buckle up, the US is in for a hell of a ride.
Sean Spicer, official e-penis defender.
The "ground coverings" are definitely not what make the crowd look bare. It's the lack of people that make the crowd look bare lol.
Fake news! Liberal mainstream bias! Sad!
That entire statement was completely bizarre.
"This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration period, both in person and around the globe," he said.
Except everyone completely disagrees with you. Even TV viewership was down.
The reporter quickly corrected the error, but the inaccurate information was also distributed to other reporters via a pool report. "This was irresponsible and reckless," Spicer said.
The information came from the WhiteHouse itself.
Sean Spicer, official e-penis defender.
He literally got his friend to tell other people that his penis wasn't small.
"That's what you guys should be writing and covering,"
Bye bye freedom of speech.
First day on the job and his Press Secretary blatantly lies to the press. Not a great start.
The start is the least of my worries. It's the ending that has my concern.
Went and watched the CIA HQ address, and no shit he got a "standing ovation", they were already standing up (or at least no one stood up when he was done): Skip to 57:00 to hear him talk about the dishonest media as well.
That entire statement was completely bizarre.
This entire administration is fucking bizarre. It's pretty clear that these people need to be removed from office, by force if necessary. They're the real enemies of the United States and the American people, especially with all the accusations and tough guy statements they're slinging around. Thank fuck there's hundreds of thousands of people marching across the United States right now who are furious about them being in power. Those people are not going to just disappear overnight. Neither is their anger and resentment.
I feel like this war on the media will do nothing but make trump's base more and more isolated
I feel like this war on the media will do nothing but make trump's base more and more isolated
I wish there was more objective reporting but most of it is Trump supporters themselves tbh. I've never met a Trump supporter who wasn't accusing me of watching 'liberal media bullshit' when I tried to explain why I didn't like Trump and I cited viewing that leaked 'Pussygate' video as one reason why I think he doesn't belong in a position of power and I was told that I need to inform myself. I just don't understand what common ground there is if the somebody I'm trying to have a discussion with can't even understand the basic principle of not grabbing women by their genitals without consent. Why is this a thing, Trump supporters?
I feel like this war on the media will do nothing but make trump's base more and more isolated
One of the first few steps to establishing an echo chamber is to suppress as much opposing viewpoints and information as you can.
Ad if they arent an echo chamber already
Reasonable discourse doesn't work with people who, as Selek pointed out, automatically go for the 'You're misinformed by the lieberal media bias' counterpoint the moment you even hint you don't worship God-Emporer Trump.
First day on the job and his Press Secretary blatantly lies to the press. Not a great start.
Wondering how long it's going to take, if ever, for the cable outlets and newspapers to accept this and stop taking them at face value. I don't see the point in cable hosts having Kellyanne, or any of his other surrogates, on their shows if they're going to just blatantly lie to them every time.
Fun fact, CNN didn't send any of their journalist to this first press conference :v:
Fun fact, CNN didn't send any of their journalist to this first press conference :v:
I wouldn't be surprised to hear they weren't allowed to cover it.
Fun fact, CNN didn't send any of their journalist to this first press conference :v:
Turns out that was a pretty good decision in this case.
On a related note, I'm having kind of a giggle at this picture of the parade. [t]https://68.media.tumblr.com/309c7ec905fe1e0660db6af23b3498fd/tumblr_ok3p5zSKNk1qz4eqqo1_540.jpg[/t]
