Sam Raimi has ankled Spider-Man 4, and they're killing the sequel instead of hiring a new director. And even though Spider-Man 3 brought in nearly a billion dollars in total worldwide revenue, they're going to reboot the series instead of sticking with the same cast. Sounds dramatic, right? Apparently Raimi felt he couldn't realistically meet Sony's 2011 release date, so he's left the project. Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal and Columbia Pictures president Matt Tolmach then decided to jettison everything and start from scratch. Obviously this will save them the bloated salaries of the Tobey Maguire et al., but is it going to kill interest in the series? For an entire generation, Tobey Maguire is Spider-Man. Personally, I didn't enjoy Spider-Man 3 as much as the previous two films, and I imagine that Raimi has grown tired of the project on a personal level as well, so I welcome any sort of change in this franchise. The fourth film already felt like it was overburdened with villains (including John Malkovich as The Vulture) and story, so a reboot could be good. Or it could scuttle everything Raimi did. Could we just wait on it for awhile? Sony and Columbia we know your coffers are insatiably hungry, but please don't rush a script into production for 2011. Take your time with this one, and give us back our teenaged, loveable, pun and web-slinging Spidey. Alas, right now the tentative plan is to "reboot" the series, from scratch, in 2012.
It's funny because just yesterday John Malkovich confirmed he was gonna be doing the Vulture in part 4. And the next day, bam, the movies dead. Dunno what to think. Spider man 3 was so terrible but raimi was claiming he could do it right. But if they were really gonna go with vulture instead of The Lizard, who has been in the background of the previous three spider man films leading you to think he'd finally transform in the next one, then I'm fine with it being cancelled. Sucks we never got to see The Lizard though. Gonna be weird seeing a new actor be spider man if they decide to reboot it. It's a bit soon to reboot it to be honest but that's apparently not stopping the Fantastic Four reboot from being made either
I pissed myself laughing at spiderman 3, it was so damn ridiculous.
Thank god.
I hope they don't cast someone with bad acne. After the emo debacle that was number 3 I never want to see any of them again!
Maybe next time they try, they won't fuck up Venom.
I guess Toby Maguire didn't want to only be reconized as Spiderman.
Huzzah! Weren't they originally going to make, like, eight?
Maybe next time they try, they won't fuck up Venom.
Yeah the best thing to come out of a reboot would be a second chance at Venom. [editline]06:20PM[/editline]
Huzzah! Weren't they originally going to make, like, eight?
five or six i think. Two being filmed back to back if i remember right.
It really got stale after the first one. Say compared to; batman.
Spider-Man 3 was fucking terrible and the only thing that made it worth watching was James Franco's performance. It's unfortunate that the series will end on such a bad note.

Emo Toby+Venom being beaten in the face with the bad actor stick=Fail
Good.
Thank you god.
I don't think anyone will really care.
Does anyone think Spider-Man 2 is one of the best comic-book movies? I haven't seen it in awhile, but man do I remember loving it in theaters. I regret convincing my friends to go see Spider-Man 3 in theaters. I should of trusted my first instinct that the movie was going to be a steaming pile.

Second one was my favorite, Doc Oc was the best villain/anti-hero ever! Alfred Molina really nailed the role.
Hopefully if they reboot they'll fucking do venom right next time. God spider-man 3 made me nerd rage at how much they overshadowed venom with fucking sandman.
Good, I haven't even seen the third one, and it still sucks.
I think it's safe to say that this film was caught in the web of the third.
Vulture? Good thing this one failed, too. How entertaining would it be to see Spiderman beating up a man in a great big silly bird costume. Not very, I'd imagine.
If they reboot the series, and cast Tobey, I would be totally fine with that. I think Tobey does a good job as spiderman. He just doesn't do so well in Spiderman 3 because that movie just didn't have a good story, and I don't think anyone wanted a emo spiderman.

oh man the third movie wasn't the best but still "mommy that's not spider man :(" recast tobey and it's fine but you're going to have tons of disappointed people who realize that spider man isn't the spider man they're used to
I liked spiderman 3 :(
maybe Raimi will finally make Evil Dead 4 :argh:
The one thing I expecially hated in Spider-Man 3 was that New York was fucking throwing Spider-Man a parade. It really killed the atmosphere for me by making the city love Spider-Man, especially the news reporters at the end of the third movie spectating the battle (cringe). Oddly enough I did come out respecting Sandman, I though he was handled well enough for the most part. Better then Forman or the New Goblin (shudder).
I was never really into old spiderman stuff, but I got the hint that venom was supposed to be badass or something, why wasn't he :(
Doc ock was fucking brilliant in Spiderman 2, better than the comics, I reckon. Goblin looked like a power rangers villian, but acted well. Goes without saying there were no redeeming qualities in Spiderman 3. A reboot? I dunno, man. [editline]12:01AM[/editline] Stupid fucking flying snowboard.
