The identity of a homeless man run over by three or four cars Monday night and dragged nearly six miles to his death has been released.
Police say 45-year-old Dean Bush was hit as he walked along Tunnel Road near the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Police say Bush was trying to cross the street when he was hit. He got lodged underneath the last car.
Bush was first dragged along Tunnel Road, then onto I-240 before his body was discovered at the Charlotte Street exit.
Bush was a regular at the Homeward Bound Shelter on Ann Street in downtown Asheville. The director tells News 13 Bush was disabled.
Police have not said if charges will be filed against the drivers in this case. The Asheville Police Department is looking for a possible a 4th vehicle involved in Monday night's collision.
They are asking for any information on a small white passenger vehicle that was traveling west on Tunnel Road. This car may have turned onto the parkway after hitting the victim.
Used to pass by this place going to work every day. Apparently the first person that hit him was one of my teachers from elementary school.
Tragic death. :(
EDIT:
To clear things up
It was raining the other night, so low visibility. He was struck the first 2 times, and what is shown on cameras was he was lying in the road not moving. 3rd car thought it was a flat tire, kept driving.
The road itself where it happened, is pretty much a straight way without exit til you got the Charlotte St where the person discovered him.
How does one drive 6 miles with a human body lodged in their vehicle's undercarriage without the driver noticing and/or caring to stop? Only answer I can come up with is that the driver completely panicked and...well...hoped the body would dislodge itself.
Terrible news either way.
The sad thing is that this isn't the first time I've heard about this kind of thing. I hope he wasn't actually alive as he was being dragged, but the way it's worded makes me think he probably was. That's horrible.
in all honesty, if it happened that you were the 2-3rd driver passing by would you stop after it lodging under your vehicle? :s
I don't know why, but this story makes me especially sad. Homeless, then struck by a car and dragged to your death. It sucks how fast a life can be taken, even when that life is shitty to the person living it anyways...
My condolences :(.

Uhh why the hell not? Because he is homeless? Fucking ridiculous. Should be a hit and run at the VERY least, none the less manslaughter.
Didn't know the conditions, my bad. Tragic none the less.

If the guy was illegally crossing in low-visibility, and if the drivers were not aware, and a myriad of other possible conditions...
The conditions in which he got hit aren't listed in the article. They are why.

Wow that's fucking depressing.

This happened in my neighborhood a couple of years ago, a girl was first hit by a truck then she got jammed under a car. She was stuck under there for a one hour long drive. The driver wen't inside her house in shock and got drunk in fear she killed someone, driver didn't notice the girl jammed under her car. The girl survived.

how the fuck does someone even remain intact getting drug for such a distance under a fast moving car?
How is the fact that he's homeless relevant?
Is it supposed to make his death seem less tragic?

Driver got a flat tire and kept driving.
I don't own a car and I don't have a drivers license, but wouldn't you stop to check things like that?

Well, like I said. The road itself is a complete straight way. Where she stopped is probably the only place she could stop and check.
My guess it was at a gas station, because there is one on that exit.

One of the officers said it was probably the most gruesome incident he has seen in his 20 years at Asheville PD

No, it's because he was fucking homeless

Drug is not the past tense of drag, it's dragged. Took me a while to understand your post because of that.

If I had a flat I don't think I would turn on to I-240. Nor would I do 4-5 miles on one, plus there are a million places to stop on tunnel road.
However I can easily see this as a crazy accident not a hit and run. Tunnel road is 4/5 lanes and busy.

There is a lot of places to stop, yeah. Not sure how the traffic might've been that night though. Either way, it was a crazy accident.
:| What the fuck...... I mean who would hit something the size of a human being and not stop?

kinda reminded me near my place that two drunk idiots were driving home intoxicated in a convertible. well one of the idiots passed out with his head hanging out of the side of the car and when the driver swerved to avoid a car, he ended up going up on the curb and the other guy's head got hit by a steel cable holding the telephone pole. it sliced half his head off diagonally. the driver just drove home, parked it with the dead body still in the passenger seat, and slept in his bed. they woke up the next morning and was horrified.
[sp]I got to see the autopsy pics of the dude thanks to one of our family friends being a cop that had to work on it. [/sp]
