The 70's was a decade that arguably is the greatest decade for Rock and Roll. Many bands like Pink Floyd, Boston, Led Zeppelin and many more released some of their greatest hits during this era. It represented. Following the success of Woodstock, Rock and Roll took off like a mad man.

This is a list I found of the arguably "Top 50 songs of the 70s". I find this to be a pretty respectable list. How many do you recognize? I easily know at least half the songs, and to give that perspective, I was born in the 90s.

Some music from the 70s to inspire you:
Also: I've tried to provide all live videos as they encapsulate the 70s: Great artists performing to enthusiastic crowds, jumping and cheering. It was an era of great music and power to the people.

Note: This was recorded in 1980 but the song was originally recorded in 1979. It's an amazing song with one of the greatest solos ever.

Mark Knopfler is still playing 30 years later, into his 70s.

The list is useless because music is subjective
That said the seventies were kickass, I hope music gets it shit together and we redo the sixties and everything that came afterwards

Even if you don't enjoy the list, you can say with dignity it represents rock of the 70s. A large portion of the songs on that list have continued to be played regularly on the radio through the 90s. Many of them are considered classics and some of the best songs of all time.
While it's subjective, I feel the list caters to a variety of tastes and shows some of the most popular rock of the decade.
Personally: I'm a little disappointed Foreigner ain't on that list, as I remember listening to their music on Casette for years.
I never said I didn't lol

Hugely disagree about #1
I'd say rename it to #50 most popular songs in the 70s and you'd have a perfect list
I hope music gets it shit together and we redo the sixties and everything that came afterwards
yeah that already happened dude
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grunge
Nah, not revolutionary enough
Still good, but nowhere near a new sixties
no grunge was a new seventies, most of the artists in the 90's took strong influences from 70's rock
though the fact that this thread is missing punk rock, i'm not quite sure what the angle is here
I didn't even think of that.
Excellent point
some other classic albums from the 70's.

Sex Pistols are in OP's image, but I doubt that was intentional
why is Cream in that image? they broke up in 1968
I personally am not so much into 70's music, but I still love me some The Doors, Queen or David Bowie. Time has treated their works surprisingly well.
This motherfucker

Most of Boston's self-titled release gets regular radio airtime.
The Eagles have at least a couple of other songs that get regular radio airtime.
Okay not much by Skynyrd ever gets on the radio but that doesn't mean they had no other good songs.
I agree though, Kiss is/was terrible as far as the actual music goes.
I hear they put on an unforgettable show, but the music is really bland.
