A PlayStation 4 version of The Last Of Us has already been leaked once by Sony themselves, although at that point it could have turned out to be a mistranslation or misunderstanding. But not now. The banner above appeared on the US Sony Entertainment Network site, before quickly being taken down again. It lists the price as $59.99, which is the same as any normal full price game in the States. The store posting was a bit premature, but this ain't no accident.
-already quoted but whatever-
If this is real, then FUCK YES!
-snip-
The multiplayer in this game is really good, and still active.
Are they seriously remaking a game that was made a year ago?
They're remastering it, not remaking
Wasn't the graphics in TLoU good enough? Why does it need to be 'remastered'?
Are they seriously remaking a game that was made a year ago?
New console, new graphics. Simple as that. Probably VR too.
GOTY 2014
Are they seriously remaking a game that was made a year ago?
It worked with Tomb Raider. I'm a bit annoyed that they're releasing it for a full $60, but it does include the $30 worth of DLC so that kinda helps. I can see good business reason to have a remaster of it though. It's one of Sony's definitive titles, won a ton of acclaim upon release, and they have a LOT of XB360->PS4 converts who likely never played the game. I'm just curious to see how much of an improvement this is going to be before I think about double-dipping.
Why? I mean, I guess its nice as its a ps4 port but this soon and for full price? Shameless cashgrab. At leat Nintendo had the courtesy to wait 10 years before WWHD.
If it includes the DLC, it's probably not a bad package. I wonder if it's going to have it's own separate multiplayer or will it share with the PS3?
Never had a PS3 and wanted to play this game soo much, now that i have my PS4 i just can't wait
I don't really see a problem with this. The PS4 isn't backwards compatible, a lot of players came from the 360 and never owned a PS3 to play the Last of Us. At least this saves them having to buy a PS3 to play one of the most critically acclaimed games of the last generation.
Wasn't the graphics in TLoU good enough? Why does it need to be 'remastered'?
They were exceptional for the PS3, but it was definitely a technically ambitious game that was being constrained by the hardware it was on. 1280x720 with no AA, poor distance LOD, blocky shadows, non-reflective water, and a framerate that occasionally struggled to maintain 30fps. EDIT: Some good examples. The game looks great for the PS3 and it's even better in motion, but there's plenty of room for improvement.
Probably VR too.
wont happen
Are they seriously remaking a game that was made a year ago?
It's not a remake, it's just a port. Just like how Ass Creed Black Flag was on PS3 and also PS4, except this one took a year and not a month.
I hope it's 60fps. They haven't said that it is though, so it's likely not
It is supported to be 60fps. (Source: Neil Druckman) I can't wait to see how it looks. I'm hoping it looks as good as the pre-release bullshots, those looked almost like a PS4 game.
It is supported to be 60fps. (Source: Neil Druckman)
Well that's reason enough alone to want to pick it up. Wonder how they're going to handle 60fps gameplay with their 30fps cutscenes though; that might be jarring if they aren't careful.
Re-render them?
Yeah, most likely. Probably means they'll have to change their post-processing effects, but given Naughty Dog is doing this in-house I'd say this is in safe hands.
They could probably render the cutscenes in real time. (i hope they use the cutscene shaders and models in gameplay, how beautiful would that be?)
They could probably render the cutscenes in real time. (i hope they use the cutscene shaders and models in gameplay, how beautiful would that be?)
I remember Neil Druckmann said a while back that the quality of their pre-rendered cinematics in 'The Last of Us' was what they were targeting for realtime gameplay on PS4 (for Uncharted 4). It'd be a hell of a thing.
I'm sure they could do much better than that with the PS4 hardware. I mean many PS4 games look better than TLoU cutscenes, tech wise, like The Order 1886 or ISS.
I didn't own a PS3 so I've been wanting to play this for a while.
This allows Naughty Dog to port their engine to PS4 and get used to next-gen development before starting their next game
Some more info:
When asked how the response from fans of the PS3 version affected the future of The Last of Us, Wells revealed the approximate time when Naughty Dog began working on the PS4 version: Yeah, we had a lot of people on the forums saying, ‘Can I play this on PlayStation?’ And so, I’d been anticipating that, and started working on [the PS4 version] pretty much as soon as we finished with the PlayStation 3 [version]. We weren’t sure whether it was going to go anywhere, but when we saw the fans clamoring for it, we doubled down and put more effort behind it. After saying they turned the graphical fidelity “up to 11″ on PS4 with The Last of Us, Wells also confirmed that draw distances will be pushed further, in addition to all the other improvements. Source
Been in the works for quite some time apparently.
