"People are hungrier than ever for faster Internet, and as a result, cities across America are making speed a priority," Google says. "We've long believed that the Internet’s next chapter will be built on gigabit speeds, so it’s fantastic to see this momentum." Google says up to 34 cities in all could potentially receive Fiber service. The nine metro areas where those cities are located include: Atlanta, Georgia Charlotte, North Carolina Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina Nashville, Tennessee Phoenix, Arizona Portland, Oregon Salt Lake City, Utah San Antonio, Texas San Jose, California Google's hometown of Mountain View, California is also holding talks about Fiber. The company plans to provide an update by the end of 2014 on which destinations will officially join the list of Fiber cities. "Between now and then, we’ll work closely with each city’s leaders on a joint planning process that will not only map out a Google Fiber network in detail, but also assess what unique local challenges we might face," Google says. That includes studying topography, housing density, and local infrastructure.
http://www.theverge.com/2014/2/19/5426338/google-will-explore-bringing-fiber-34-additional-cities No San Diego on that list, my life has no meaning
PORTLAND! SCORE!
New England is sad.
uk pls
Anychance of bringing it to Lanzarote? I'll see myself out.
Aleksandrów Łódzki, plz
Save us from the tirany of bad ISPs and slow internet speeds.
Do Houston and Dallas pls Google.
Yesssssssssssssss, PHOENIX.
Phoenix, yeah!
Nashville! That'll make two cities with independent, 1Gbps ISPs! Chattanooga runs their own fiber service. Now, if only it'd come to Knoxville.
brb moving to San Antonio
Fucking hell "don't be evil" eh Google, well not bringing Fiber to my town is about as evil as it gets
people actually live there?
Yes, the supreme king of Lanzarote, the woman who works at the kiosk at Lanzarote, the guy who drives the taxi, matty928 and that one hobo.
Come on Google! Save Fullerton, California from Time Warner Cable's monopoly on this city!
I live in Maine and live out of Portland. (Our city, you other Portland bastards stole it from us) so the chances of getting Google Fiber is incredibly doubtful. Such a shame.

Atlanta! Bahboom! Its so close to me! Wander up in Lawrenceville's direction soon, please? Jeez I wish I could see the reactions of that sales group I was very briefly a part of. "Hey boss, with Google Fiber rolling in with packages that quite literally blow ours out of the water, how are we gonna compete?"

Most ISPs in Fiber areas have chosen to improve. Even AT&T. Reason being, no matter how much money you throw at politicians, Google can throw more.
PORTLAND! SCORE!
Tell me it's coming to Vancouver too.
Hey Google, it's only a few hours west of Atlanta and you'll be in Birmingham. So come to Birmingham.
Shame they aren't at the stage of suburbs yet
I didn't even know they were going ahead with Austin fuck YES
Seeing a small dot under Phoenix. All my hope it's Tucson. PLEASE. Edit: Lol, it's not.
Bring it to Canada :(
Anyone know how large a radius around a given city they're extending the fiber too? I'm ~60 miles or so as the crow flies from Nashville and I could desperately use internet that isn't run by a bunch of egotistical power-tripping shitstains that seek only control and censorship...
I'm pretty disappointed. Back in 2010 Kansas City KS, Ashville NC and Duluth MN were considered the three most likely candidates for the first Google Fiber city with Duluth leading in an unofficial "googlefiber.com" poll, followed by Ashville and Kansas City. I'm biased as fuck since I live in Duluth, but it would've been nice to be one of the 34 cities after our city launched a pretty dedicated campaign during the 2010 selection contest. I'm sure Google would've done it if it was viable though, eh?
Tennessee isn't too far away...
This is so great to see. I'm glad someone's fighting back against the ISP situation. Now if only it would come to Metro Detroit...
UPPER MIDWEST no love. :eagletear:
