Tony Stewart was reportedly involved in an incident being investigated by the Ontario County (N.Y.) Sheriff’s Department that happened at Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night. The Charlotte Observer reported the sheriff’s department was conducting the investigation and the department told the Observer it would have a statement a few hours after 11:30 p.m. ET. Stewart was racing in a sprint car race at the dirt track north of Watkins Glen, where Sunday’s Sprint Cup race is being held.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nascar-from-the-marbles/tony-stewart-reportedly-involved-in-incident-under-investigation-at-new-york-dirt-track-042049206.html Sounds like he gunned his engine to avoid the guy and his rear tire hit him and sent him flying.
snip
From what I've read the victim is in critical condition.
I'm hearing a lot of mixed descriptions without any sources on several sites, ranging from Tony accidentally fishtailing the driver by gunning it as he approached to the alleged victim leaping at the car as it drove away. Tony has been hotheaded in the past, but for now I doubt that he did this on purpose if it turns out to be true.

The Orange Cone says he is dead
Tony Stewart has always been a dick but god damn I didn't think he would ever take it this far
This is why the rest of the world sneers at NASCAR. The drivers act like idiot children. Maybe a driver murdering another driver on the track (if that turns out to be the case) will spur a change in the dumb redneck-pandering culture of NASCAR...but I doubt it. Also, how is there not like 12 angles of video?
Okay, I checked with a friend of mine who is REALLY into NASCAR, and his take on it is that Stewart was just trying to cover him in mud, but the rear tires slipped. He doesn't have any secret info on it, that's just what he thinks is the most logical explanation given what we know at this time. He also says that a lot of the reporting is horribly wrong. Which is a pretty safe bet most of the time.

Most people read initial stories then don't follow up and just keep that initial report in their head.

Moreover, a 17 year old kid just got killed and all you can do is complain about what the world thinks of it and rednecks? Why? VIDEO: NOT MIND SAFE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvaHUN6JFPc
This is messed up, every driver knows to be careful near an accident and the guy just books it, fucking disgusting, if only the kid controlled his emotions and stayed in the car, maybe this could've been avoided.

That dude is crazy for running out onto the track like that.
The Orange Cone says he is dead
Confirmed by the AP: @AP: "BREAKING: Driver dies following crash at upstate New York dirt track involving NASCAR star Tony Stewart" I smell manslaughter...
Jalopnik is reporting it now too. http://jalopnik.com/driver-kevin-ward-jr-reprotedly-killed-in-incident-wi-1618923260
actual video of the incident. NSFW MAYBE??? it seems like its on purpose because tony stewart (#14) not only pushed kevin ward jr (#13) off the race track but ran over him in the next lap

-snip- racing is dangerous who knew?
These people are driving large metal deathtraps at speeds of over 200MPH at times, and the news is trying to report it as a murder? I'm sorry for this guy and all, but if he thought it would be a safe occupation then he was very mislead, you are pretty much guaranteed to crash at least once in Nascar and not everyone is lucky enough to walk away.
kevin ran onto the fucking track. watch my video posted above nonetheless i still think this was intentional, even if tony didnt intend on hurting kevin
After seeing the video it wasn't entirely Stewart's fault. The idiot ran into the middle of the track trying to confront him. And it looks like Stewart did try to sling mud on him as he drove by, so who knows. Stewart IS the biggest cry baby in all of NASCAR, though.
Unless he legitimately slammed into the other driver's car with malicious intent, I think even assuming it was somehow premeditated murder is fucking ridiculous, it's Nascar and everyone else is competition yet the media is acting like these two were vicious rivals. Should we start blaming the winner of boxing tournaments for injuries sustained by the opposing boxer? If your occupation includes driving cars at insane speeds or fist-fighting you should probably realize that there is a risk of injury or death or just get a desk job. I can tell you right now that this kid knew the risks as does any other racer, the media is just looking for someone to blame because it gives better ratings.
Good job not reading anything or watching the video.
-snip- racing is dangerous who knew?
may i stress again that kevin ran onto a race track full of very fast cars? that is an unusual thing to do even for racing
Why the fuck did he get into the middle of the track? His stupidity got the better of him, without seeing alternate views; can't tell if it was intentional or not.
He got out of his car and walked right into the middle of the damn track what do people expect to happen?

There's lapses of judgment and there's THIS guy.
I'm still in total shock that this happened... These types of cars are pretty close to my heart, i pretty much go to every local dirt track meeting here in western australia and Tony Stewart is one of the most well known names in the sport as well as NASCAR.. can't even bear myself to watch that video again... fuck this should of never happened in the first place, can't imagine how everyone at the track feels along with both families of the drivers... its going to be such a eerie atmosphere later today when the nascar race is going to be on
100% the driver who got ran overs fault never walk onto an active race track?? idk how hard that is to grasp track safety standards also need to be higher and dangers such as this need to be stressed [editline]10th August 2014[/editline]
kevin ran onto the fucking track. watch my video posted above nonetheless i still think this was intentional, even if tony didnt intend on hurting kevin
no, i dont believe tony stewart intended to get near him at all, in interviews he's addressed safety concerns numerous times, here's one
Espn is confirming that stewart will not race today.
