• North Korea: Best Korea

Over the past few months I've been reading up on North Korea, and why it is the most fascinating and scary places on Earth. Allow me to explain. One thing to remember is that North Korea is a place literally built around their leader. Half the shit there doesn't work, and it's just to impress visitors  North Korea is a country in Asia, just below Russia and next to Japan. It also shares a border with China. Just after WW2, Korea was divided into South Korea and North Korea. North Korea were led by the Communist Kim Il-Sung with Chinese aid, while the South Korea was led by American backed forces (see the Korean War) It currently boasts the 4th biggest army in the world. The current leader is Kim Jong-Ill, who rules the country with an iron fist. After the war, Korea turned into a literal hell hole. The above picture was taken from a satellite. As you can see, North Korean power is very reliable and plentiful!! (not really). The people there constantly are starving. There have even been reports of cannibalism. The average NKoreaner earns $2 USD per month. The main city is Pyongyang, and holds 3.2 million people. Here is a photo taken in the main city, Pyongyang. As you can see, because ordinary citizens aren't allowed cars, they have regressed back to using Ox Carts for transport. In this image, we can see the sign painted on the housing complexes (where most people live). "Long live General Kim Jong Il, the sun of the 21st century!" it reads. Here is a ferris wheel seen from the Chinese border. It doesn't actually work, it's just to promote the idea that "North Korea is workers paradise!!" Due to constant power shortages, entire villages go out at night. But statue of Korean leader is always lit up!! Here is a set of entirely abandoned apartments. Too expensive to remove, they are littered all over the country. Here is one of the very few images of a labour camp in Korea. Entire generations of people are imprisoned here. If you do something, the entire FAMILY of yours gets imprisoned with you. In this image, they are moving their own shit to be used as manure. By law you are required to have a portrait of the Leader in your house. If it is dirty, you are probably getting sent off to a prison camp. If you are lucky enough to own a TV, the only thing on is a looped propaganda broadcast of Kim Jong-Il. Music is also banned unless it is state sanctioned orchestral music. . This is a restaurant in Pyongyang, empty. The average Koreaner would not even dream of being able to eat here. The prices on the left are in Euros, where as the ones on the right are in the Korean currency. However, most Korean restaurants don't even accept the national currency due to absurd forgeries. It means if you're a Korean with no contact with the outside, you're fucked. Some families smuggle in Chinese money so their brethren can have a better life. That's all for now, but I'll add some more later. Thank you!
Add this.
good god, North Korea is so fucked up
Honestly, I had no idea it was THAT bad.
Communism sucks dick in general, but North Korea is just fucked up. Nuclear destruction isnt a problem when it's mutually deterred, but all it takes is one pyscho like Kim Jong to fuck the whole world over.
Damn, I didn't know much about it before, looks like a terrible place to be. When you said about those abandoned apartments I thought "urban exploration paridise", well, if it weren't for the danger you would be in there.
Communism sucks dick in general, but North Korea is just fucked up.
Communism has nothing to do with North Korea.
Honestly, I had no idea it was THAT bad.
Agreed. I thought it was like third world and shit, but I didn't know it was so fucked up in terms of the whole having to have a picture of the guy in your house and the labour camps.
Communism has nothing to do with North Korea.
North Korea is communist isn't it? Therefore it does have something to do with North Korea.
Don't be chatting shit about Kim Jong Il - that guy is the greatest golfer in history.
Don't be chatting shit about Kim Jong Il - that guy is the greatest golfer in history.
And jet pilot!
Needs a lot more info, but definitely an interesting subject.
North Korea is communist isn't it? Therefore it does have something to do with North Korea.
No, it isn't. Would you also describe it as stateless and oppression free?
I do want to visit in my Lifetime. I wonder how the people would act if they were liberated by a first world country.
North Korea will one day gives us a welcoming gift stuffed with lots of nuclear material :buddy:
Communism has nothing to do with North Korea.
yes it does
I once heard that if you would look up the sky, you could get arrested for thinking/worshipping God.
About damn time someone decides to make a thread on this site showing how awesome communism is, thanks. Edit: GOD DAMNIT PEOPLE IT'S SARCASM, CLEARLY MISSED BASED ON THE RATINGS I'VE RECEIVED
http://www.vbs.tv/newsroom/vice-guide-to-north-korea-1-of-14 Just change the URL to 2, 3, 4, etc. Pictures can only show you what fresh hell is going on there, a video is priceless (literally)
I do want to visit in my Lifetime. I wonder how the people would act if they were liberated by a first world country.
The population is brought up from birth to believe America is evil, the cause of the Korean war and the rest of the world is jealous of them :smith:
Communism has nothing to do with North Korea.
:downs: [editline]03:06PM[/editline] Good thread btw JLea
No matter what they call themselves, NK is not a Communist country. No country is. The closest people got to Communism up till now was Socialism, they just called it Communism. The core ideas of marx and Engels have never really been realised. NK is a Dictatorship.
Do they play starcraft there?
That apartment building looks so depressing
I knew it was fucked up, but not like that
That's one fucked up country [editline]04:12PM[/editline] But fascinating never the less.
I'm watching those videos... holy shit north korea is fucked up.
:wtc:
I thought China is communist?
No, it's a dictatorship with a "free" market.
Eh, it feels like you just scrached the surface. There are loads of things to tell, how they try to impress journalists into thinking they are the best, by planing their visits, how the population treats him as god, how most of the technology and general knowledge is stuck in time, etc.
