Samsung Galaxy S3 might support wireless charging, from a distance of 1-2 meters

The Samsung leaks just won’t stop these days. It seems Samsung may launch the Galaxy S3
with its own proprietary wireless charging station. The smartphone will not even need to touch
the charger, as it can charge from a distance of 1-2 meters. That seems pretty futuristic, if you
ask me, considering that only a few years ago wireless charging was more of a science lab experiment.
Of course, Samsung wouldn’t be the first to use wireless charging for a phone. The Palm Pre
was one of the first to have to boast the wires-free charging technology. But Samsung may
have improved the technology, if the information concerning the 1-2 meters charging range
is to be believed. This also means that we’re talking about Samsung’s own proprietary technology,
one that they’ve potentially patented, and not the Fulton eCoupled method seen at CES.
Apparently, Samsung has not decided yet whether it will include the wireless charging station
or not, because it adds quite a bit to the cost of the phone. When you consider the rumored
quad-core chip, the LTE integration, ceramic casing (maybe Micro Arc Oxidation, a la HTC One S),
the 4.8″ Super AMOLED screen, and even the 1080p resolution, all of those high-end specs will
add bulk to the cost of the phone.
However, even if they can’t include the wireless charging station in the Galaxy S3 base package,
you will probably still be able to buy it separately, so, ultimately, it will be your own choice if you
want to pay the premium or not.

Ceramic casing now this?
I hate how fast technology progresses sometimes, I only just got my damn S2. :v:
Ill get it anyways, the wireless charging alone is worth it.

It's said to be announced next month.
Install wireless chargers everywhere.
We could of had this before, IF WE GONE WITH TESLA!
10 bucks says apple patents it

If Samsung is smart, they already did.

Instead we got the treacherous prick JP Morgan.

I hope that the charger only drains power when a phone is actually within range. If that is the case, you could cover your home with the things.
I swear if they focused as much as they do on features on battery life, phones would run for months without charge.

A minimal amount of power would be required to detect whether or not a phone's in range but probably less than what it would need to actually charge the phone
They can't be able to compensate for the massive power loss. It's probably going to take 4x longer to charge your phone with this than by cable.

It doesn't need to take longer, it just needs to use more power. It'd be convenient but I doubt it'll happen.
This phone's gonna suck ass compared to all the hype, I don't get why this happens with every new gadget. Just wait and see ffs what's the need to speculate and make up bullshit like this.
I don't get how this is useful or in any way practical.

It was sweet when I had a palm pre, you just chuck the phone on the charger instead of having to plug it in and such. With a large radius, you could mount the wireless charger under your desk and have it charge anywhere, even while you're using it without an annoying wire. The concept itself is brilliant, the practical application probably less so. Not to mention it probably won't have this feature anyway, this is just rampant speculation.

Wireless electricity?
Wireless electricity?
I wouldn't exactly trust it charging my phone. I know that, with a wire connecting into my wall, it will charge.
Yeah, but you still have to plug the charger somewhere, and since it's proprietary don't expect to be able to buy enough to cover your house with them. If you're going on a trip you're probably going to have to take it along, and to do that you'll still have to plug the charger into an outlet.
To be honest this sounds more like a gimmick "hey look at our new tech" feature than an actual practically useful feature.
I don't get how this is useful or in any way practical.
you put it in your room and then anytime you are in your room your phone charges
thats incredibly useful i dont know what's wrong with you
and i still have my galaxy s 4g :saddowns:
I swear if they focused as much as they do on features on battery life, phones would run for months without charge.
But then there wouldn't be any features to use the battery on...
Somehow I think I'd favor battery life over features. Imagine being able to do anything on your phone without having to worry about what's using battery. You could have the brightness on full to show the screens full glory, you wouldn't need to turn wifi or gps or whatever on and off, you could play 3d games instead of 2d ones etc etc

I still can't get over how much of a dick Edison was to me.
yeah we wont see this until the galaxy s fifteen
with the 2 meter range at least
Fuck yeah, I've been stuck with the Galaxy S that has Avatar on it. It's about time for a damn upgrade.
[del]You know, one of Clarke's three laws are quite applicable right now:
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
Because I have no damn idea how that works.[/del]
Edit:
Oh, it's trough induction. Cool.
Better than Apple shitting out a new Iphone every other month with almost nothing new.
Ill get it anyways, the wireless charging alone is worth it.
Oh man, I can charge my phone while it's sat on my desk, instead of plugging it in AT my desk..
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.
