• Survey says: Elon Musk is the most admired tech leader among founders
Elon Musk beat out Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs as the most admired tech leader among 700 founders surveyed by VC firm First Round Capital. Twenty-three percent of founders wrote in the SpaceX and Tesla CEO’s name when asked whom they admired the most; 10 percent said Bezos, 6 percent said Zuckerberg and only 5 percent of respondents wrote in Jobs. (That’s a lot compared to the mere 1 percent who wrote in Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg — the most cited female among founders.) The dude is so damn awesome that he's one of the few people to voice his caricature on South Park.
Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs
That's quite the competition! /s
That's quite the competition! /s
Bezos and Zuckerberg sure, but Steve Jobs made the computer industry what it is today with the Macintosh in 1984.
elon is the coolest dude to exist in my lifetime imo so far (and that position might not change after i have kids on mars)
Calling him an inspirational figure of mine would be an understatement.
You can't get dirt on him because he's completely pure. His businesses never try to shortchange people or treat them poorly. Every one of his ventures tries to help people, which isn't a common trait for someone who could be called a rich businessman. I'd vote him for President simply because he's so pure, knowledgeable and actually pretty kind though he seems to sort of lack public speaking skill. On the other hand, I'd rather him keep at it instead of public office, he's more useful actually developing technology.
You can't get dirt on him because he's completely pure. His businesses never try to shortchange people or treat them poorly.
In fairness, that can be debated depending on who you ask.
That's quite the competition! /s
Steve Jobs is like, cult-tier among some people. I'm honestly pretty shocked a humble electric buggy salesman came out on top.
Steve Jobs is like, cult-tier among some people. I'm honestly pretty shocked a humble electric buggy salesman came out on top.
Elon Musk isn't cult-tier? [editline]2nd December 2016[/editline] I mean I'll admit I drank that koolaid a long time ago.
Well of course Jobs is the lowest. Didn't he die in 2011?
Elon Musk seems to be the only successful motherfucker out there who actually seems to want to make massive technical strides in extremely important fields. He's at the top of my "get a fucking autograph from and treasure it" list.
You can't get dirt on him because he's completely pure.
The higher the pedestal, the harder they fall. I'll call him a great person and a great CEO but it's a bad idea to worship anyone still alive.
How come Jobs can be admired? Wow, he created the mac, the ipod and the iphone! Yet he was a shit person and a shit leader. Plus, stealing from others is now seen as a good trait? Cool. In my books, Brin and Page deserve way more recognition than Jobs, yet they are hardly mentioned.
The higher the pedestal, the harder they fall. I'll call him a great person and a great CEO but it's a bad idea to worship anyone still alive.
He's a great engineer, and a great CEO. He is 100% dedicated to his work over anything else, and allocates very little time for his personal life though. Going as far to say he wishes he didn't have to eat so he could get more work done.
Someone get this guy in a political position asap, as long as it doesn't detriment his business ethic in any way.
Someone get this guy in a political position asap, as long as it doesn't detriment his business ethic in any way.
I'm not sure he would be that good of a politician. He's much more suited to doing the work directly than having to deal with people's illogical bullshit.
Someone get this guy in a political position asap, as long as it doesn't detriment his business ethic in any way.
There are two problems with that. The first is that he would have to compromise his goals to be a politician (which Musk is pretty notorious for refusing to do) or he would have to be a political technocrat. Technocrats make notoriously bad 'politicians.' For a quick shake, a technocracy isn't "a place where scientists rule," it's a place where the doers are in charge. The problem is that it's completely undemocratic, and only two shades removed from a complete dictatorship. Egypt essentially was forced in to Technocracy after the coup that ousted it's democratically elected, radically Islamic government to power. There, so long as you could keep supplies moving, jobs working and society stable, the military was willing to give you all the political power you needed. Western society is pretty negative on that sort of thing, no matter how enlightened the leadership might be.
Certainly a reputation that is well deserved. It is a tragedy that engineering expertise doesn't translate well into political office.
In fairness, that can be debated depending on who you ask.
Quite often if something bad is going on at Tesla and you tweet it to him in on Twitter he will look into it for you though.
Someone get this guy in a political position asap, as long as it doesn't detriment his business ethic in any way.
But that's literally what politics is. It takes a specific sort of diplomatic compromising person to do it well. Elon really is just fine where he is
Quite often if something bad is going on at Tesla and you tweet it to him in on Twitter he will look into it for you though.
What was bad at Tesla and what was the outcome of him looking into it? Did he return your tweet.
What was bad at Tesla and what was the outcome of him looking into it? Did he return your tweet.
He does it all the time even for relatively mundane shit. Just look through his Twitter.
He does it all the time even for relatively mundane shit. Just look through his Twitter. Just a few examples: -snipped for page space-
What a nice guy. Obviously he's a lizard reptile man just pretending to be so nice, and once we're all in Tesla™ approved self-driving cars he's gonna push the button. Nice people who are rich and powerful don't exist, that's what my hippie music teacher tells me.

Some life advice: curb your appraisement of people, especially when they are public figures and are tied to multi-billion dollar industries.

Some life advice: curb your appraisement of people, especially when they are public figures and are tied to multi-billion dollar industries.
I think the best you can get on him is the lack of time he spends on his personal life and how Tesla and SpaceX workers have to work long hours, and doesn't have much of a tolerance for failure (at least not for silly things, having ideas that turn out to not workout is okay). I'm not going to say he's the nicest guy, because he isn't. But he isn't some corrupt piece of shit either.
Guy is actually trying to get shit done, and from what I've been hearing about him for so long is that he's not too keen on letting anything or anyone stop him either. Here's a person you can truly look up to. You can tell me not to give praise to a billionaire and whatnot, but comparing Musk to other rich folk like Trump or the twats that run the oil biz, the positives are pretty clear, both in terms of attitude and goals.
Elon is a enerally nice guy, but isnt great in relationships and reportedly told his previous girlfriend several times he was the "alpha" and boss in their relationship, hes not very nice to his signifigat others, probably due to his intelligence.
