Israel attacked a UN-run school housing refugees in Gaza despite warnings that civilians were there, the UN has said.

Mr Gunness, from the UN Relief and Works Agency (Unrwa), told the BBC that Israel had been told 17 times that the school in the Jabaliya refugee camp was housing the displaced.

Bob Turner, Unrwa's Gaza director, said the UN was "confident" Israel was responsible.
He said UN workers had collected fragments of projectiles that suggested they were artillery shells fired from Israeli positions to the north-east of the school.
Disgusting, they keep doing things like this but the military zealots on my Facebook keep on defending them.
Can't NATO just enforce a naval blockade on Israel or something?
Fuck their trade up

You think UN is capable of taking ANY kind of physical action?

That depends on the council members agreeing on something for once.

Nato won't do anything because the primary member of NATO, the U.S. is stuck with its balls in a vice by the heavily religious and ignorant who make up the primary membership of 1/2 our political system. The fact that a good few of our politicians are making underhanded remarks in Israel's direction is nice and all, but any vote for any sort of action will be thrown out by the Republican controlled house.

What do they say, out of curiosity?
They really wont care as long as they get to kill more Palestinians since god wills it and all that silly stuff.
The UN says this is the sixth time that one of its schools has been hit by shellfire since this conflict began. And I've been told by UN officials on the ground that they believe Israeli forces were responsible on each occasion.
Israel often disputes the UN's version of events. When the UN said an Israeli mortar had hit a school in Beit Hanoun last week, for example, killing at least 13 people, Israel produced video from an aerial drone which it said showed the school compound was empty. But the UN told me - and it has made the same point to the Israeli military - that the resolution of the video is so poor compared with proper satellite imagery that you cannot see some of the trees in the compound, let alone the people.
Now the language the UN is using to protest against attacks on its schools is becoming stronger, as it has become angrier and more exasperated. Referring to today's school attack, the Commissioner-General of Unrwa, Pierre Krahenbuhl, could not have been any clearer: "I condemn in the strongest possible terms this serious violation of international law by Israeli forces."
Good. I hope this trend of letting ethnic cleansing and slowed genocide slide dies for good merely because the perpetrating party stamps a label of "disputed" onto it.
We are in a new age marked by a politicized international arena so today's war crimes will be retroactively adapted to those standards in the closest way possible.
I believe this is like the fifth time they've done this. How the fuck can you defend this behaviour?

I wonder what the US would do if Israel ever declared war on another NATO nation? Obviously it's not going to happen, but I wonder if they'd leave NATO to remain on Israel's side, or end up fighting it?

While the UN is for the most part ethereal, it can contact the living via the postal seance, and carry out its will with papercuts.

lol ethnic cleansing hasn't stopped, nor was it ever questioned. Israel is just under the microscope right now, but there are a nice handful of countries going through some ethnic cleansing right now.
And they are free to do this for as long as they want because of good ol' USA and "muh 6 million"

That would mean the US would be fighting the entirety of NATO, many of whom are nations which the US holds very close ties too, and nobody here loves Israel THAT much.

That would defeat the entire purpose for the US support of Israel.
The reason Americans support Israel is because Israel does not (and probably never will) pose a threat to the Western world.
Hamas is heavily supported by Iran. Iran is quite possibly the biggest potential threat to the United States in the world. Israel opposes Iran and Hamas.
This is why the United States dumps money on Israel despite all their fuckups.

And yet none or those nations are shielded by a super power at the Security Council and given $4 billion in military aid annually to further enable itself
israel once again uses any means necessary to destroy hamas (by bombing another school full of children). godspeed.

And people still don't think there's a genocide happening.
And people still don't think there's a genocide happening.
If a genocide is happening, Israel has been pretty shit at it.

Using the guilt of Europe and America. Manipulating fundamentalist right wing Christians.
If a genocide is happening, Israel has been pretty shit at it.
But this seems to fit the definition of a genocide pretty well?
[editline]31st July 2014[/editline]
Maybe it's not a 10/10 best genocide ever, but the definition of genocide really does fit here.
Can't NATO just enforce a naval blockade on Israel or something?

As if NATO cares about a Palestinians
More like Israel is in breach of articles 2, 3, 9, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 25 of the UDHR in regards to every single innocent civilian within the gaza strip.
Can't NATO just enforce a naval blockade on Israel or something?

Implying NATO and to the same extent the UN can and will take action against Israel when A) UN hasn't ever taken worthwhile action on anyone and B) They helped with the creation of Israel in the first place.
No it doesnt. This is not a genocide, not a ethnic cleansing too. If it was a genocide, there would be more, more deaths and if it was an ethnic cleansing, we would see dead people in West Bank and Golan Heights too.
This is mass murder, denial of human rights (right to live, most spesificly). No less a crime if you ask me.
So........ mass murder of Palestinians to make way for Israeli settlers is not genocide?
If a genocide is happening, Israel has been pretty shit at it.
There's multiple styles of pushing certain ethnics out of an area.
There's multiple styles of pushing certain ethnics out of an area.
Out into where?
Egypt? Egypt isn't interested in 2 million Palestinian refugees. They're not even interested in Palestinian visitors. They're blockading the other side of the strip, remember?
You keep throwing around "genocide" and "ethnic cleansing". Even if Israel really REALLY wanted those 8 kilometers, what do you think we would do with the Palestinians there? March them all into the sea? Shoot them with catapults into Jordan? What?
Why is it so inconceivable that all we want from the is to stop trying to kill us? We fucking gave them Gaza back already.
Edit:
Cool avatar though. Looks like my Skyrim character.
You should be picky when you talk about such sensitive stuff. First of all, theyre not pushing Setlerrs in Gaza, they do this in West Bank.
A genocide is trying to wipe an ethnicity from the face of the planet. An ethnic cleansing is wiping off an ethnicity from a specific region. what Israel does is neither, it is mass murder as a result of indiscriminate bombardments. More on par with bombing of Vietnam or Nazi Germany.

Genocide is the systematic destruction of all or part of a racial, ethnic, religious or national group via the (a) Killing members of the group; (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; or (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
Seriously, genocide is not as specific as that in the slightest.
What constitutes enough of a "part" to qualify as genocide has been subject to much debate by legal scholars.
This is what we are arguing, saying it isn't genocide by changing the definition completely is not a defensible position when the definition itself is set.
