I smell the ashes AND IT'S GOOD
what if they dont accept the file for the trademark
I have this sudden urge to run around my house screaming "It's happening"
I'm more interested in source 2 than HL3 atm
Surely they'd already own the Half-Life trademark and wouldn't have to do this? Or is this not how the law works and is the law silly in some way?
They probably got sick of not getting a cut out of the royalties every time someone tries to prove HL3 in the works.
steambox release includes hl3 release

I was late by 1 minute :(
sweet mother of god
I hope this turns out good.
I WANT TO BELIEVE.
EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING TODAY. -WebTV dies -US government shuts down -Wii discontinued -4chan turns 10 -HL3's trademark is registered
Well, I hope everyone remembers my Episode 3/Half-Life 3 toxx. (Though we'll have to wait until release before that happens)
Oh that's really cool.
Trademarks rights must be maintained through actual lawful use of the trademark. These rights will cease if a mark is not actively used for a period of time, normally 5 years in most jurisdictions.
5 years to go then!
Surely they'd already own the Half-Life trademark and wouldn't have to do this? Their Half-Life trademark would probably be enough, but by trademarking Half-Life 3 as well they won't have to go to court to enforce their trademark if someone were to decide to use Half-Life 3.
This means nothing.
I'm more interested in source 2 than HL3 atm
Half Life 3 is actually the perfect example to show off Source 2's powers.
Not to rain on anyone's parade but isn't legal matters like these the first thing companies do when they start the development, if not planning, process
Not to rain on anyone's parade but isn't legal matters like this the first thing companies do when they start the development, if not planning, process
Not really.
It's been a long road, this wait for Half-Life 3, but I hope that it's finally near; even if it is finally finished by 2017, 10 years since Episode Two, I will gladly buy it. 'cause I got faith of the heart that it'll be worth the wait.
This means nothing.
Like I said in another thread, it just provides a reason for people to pay attention to unspecific announcements.
Thank you, Randy Pitchford
give it to me gabe
Not to rain on anyone's parade but isn't legal matters like these the first thing companies do when they start the development, if not planning, process
I don't think this means it comes out immediately or anything either but I doubt this is the very beginning of work being done on it.
Not really.
We're not thinking of the whole Scrolls litigation as an example right? Cause Valve is a corporation, not an indie studios
Well they do need an exclusive for the Gabe cube.
Spoilers they trademarked it so nobody else could and are now going to sit on the trademark and do nothing with it
ITS HAPPENING. I don't care if they began developping it even today, they can take their time, as long as we have some kind of confirmation.
