You can get it from APKMirror, seems like it's still rolling out through Google Play
If you're not aware, this is the first serious update they've given the app since it came out in like 2013
Here's an article cos SH
The Steam app for Android has been rocking the same ancient UI since it launched years ago, but that changes today. The app has jumped from v1.1 all the way to 2.0 and it comes with a revamped UI. It's being called "material," but I don't know if I'd go that far. It's still a vast improvement over the old app.

Will not use battery when it is inactive
Thank fuck. It was a battery killer.
Startup screen can be set
Having to switch from the Steam Guard screen every time I loaded it up got annoying. I'm glad this is in here too.
"Will not use battery when it is inactive"
"Chat history from other devices is available"
"Chat history for offline friends is available"
Those were really needed. I hope it also reliably receives messages from friends now. Happens quite often to me that some messages never arrive on phone.
it freezes instantly on my device (nexus5) it looks nice though.
wait it does work but at 5 frames. might be due to all my friends and all their pictures reloading everytime you change menu
group chat support when
group chat support when
Maybe in 2017
its missing the recent chat options ( time frame / remove all recent chats) so now i have 20 recent chats which wont go
PC client supports emoji now too. I don't think it did before.

Edit:
Apparently it did, Fire away:

Seems I dont get message notifications anymore, thats a shame. I have to leave the app open at all times to see any messages.

Those have been there for a long time.

Nevermind me then.
App is a much need improvement though, might actually use it now.
So can I watch streams on it now
"Will not log in unexpectedly"
FUCKING YES
That was the most annoying God damn shit I have ever experienced. Every time I used my phone for longer than 10 seconds it would open Steam and sign in without my consent.
I'm glad the notification icon is gone. I didn't mind having it but it wasn't white like every other icon.
Well it isn't material design because it's still full of gradients and bulbous buttons but it definitely looks more modern.
thank god, the timing on this could not be better--i was thinking just yesterday what a piece of shit the steam app was, after forgetting that i had it for a year, after it decided to log itself in
Maybe they'll finally fix the iOS version's bugs since they updated the Android version now.
it's still a piece of shit from a design standpoint
but what are you gonna do
So how do chat notifications even work anymore? Sometimes I get a push notification and sometimes I don't.
Im going to wait for the offical play store version because there is a bunch of bugs.
Hardly material, but it'll suffice. Fucking finally.
it seems more crashy to me now actually. i had it up for 2 hours and it crashed 3 times. and by crash i mean no error, the process just terminated.
Welp Im locked out of my steam account now. If you have mobile authentication on DO NOT uninstall the new app to go back to the old version. It will ask you to go to your mobile app for the code but it will never show up. Now i have to contact steam somehow.

Have you tried reinstalling the new version?
Yes. Im completely shut out. I can't even log in on steam support.

Go to https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage, click "Remove Authenticator", enter the recovery code the app gave you when you turned on two-factor authentication (Which you should have written down or saved somewhere like it told you to).
This is what I see when I try to log in now.

The app must've bugged out, you're kinda fucked then.

All I can find in Steam's help is
"If you no longer have access to your email, or your phone, or you don't remember your recovery code, go to the Steam Support page and create a support ticket. Submit a question with "[Steam Guard]" in its Subject, categorized as "Account Questions" and then "Steam Guard/Email Verification." If you don’t have access to the email address that is currently associated with your Steam Account please provide proof of purchase within your ticket."
