A Twin Cities high school hockey player has suffered a paralyzing injury during a game.
Sixteen-year-old Benilde-St. Margaret's sophomore Jack Jablonski was injured during the Holiday Hockey Classic tournament in St. Louis Park.
Jablonski made the first goal of what would be a winning game for the junior varsity Red Knights against Wayzata High School.
In the second period, Jablonski was dashing for the puck when an accidental check from behind sent him into the boards.
Red Knights' JV coach Chris McGowan tells the Star Tribune ( http://bit.ly/tCQ2or) Jablonski is recovering at HCMC from two broken bones in his lower neck.
The coach says Jablonski is unable to move his legs and has only slight movement in his hands and fingers. But he says the player's spirits are "really quite good."

Poor kid got hit right in the back and his body twisted and just fell. He's in a neck brace right now.
That's just terrible, paralyzed at 16.
If only stem cells weren't taboo
That's so sad..
Like his whole life.. gone. Can't even have sex.

Sex would be the last of his worries.
at least it isn't his whole body. If I lost control of my whole fucking body I'd prefer death

We need a 'good reading' rating on this board

the article wasn't even that long
It sucks, shit like this happens every day.
But he says the player's spirits are "really quite good."
I wonder if that's true, or if he's just trying to look good. I know i'd be depressed as fuck if i knew i wouldn't be able to walk again and always have trouble moving my fingers.
What a horribly life he now has to lead. I hope he gets a shit load of publicity and is given tons of fun for a few years by celebrities and shit.

You'd be amazed at how many people post based purely on the first three words. Of the title.
Anyway, I seriously hope he gets back the use of at least his hands, since it sounds like they're still moving.
Is an injury like this even permanent? I don't see anywhere in the article that it is going to definitely be something permanent, he might regain some movement when his neck heals?

nah, you're pretty much fucked if your spinal cord gets messed up.

Wow, you really think that's the worst thing he has to deal with? Really?
nah, you're pretty much fucked if your spinal cord gets messed up.
Not in some cases, a girl I know was paralyzed quite severely after a spinal tap went wrong and it damaged her spinal cord. Now she can run, walk, and swim.
As for the kid, seeing how he can use his hands/fingers to an extent it seems that he'll hopefully be able to regain control of his arms.
Wow, you really think that's the worst thing he has to deal with? Really?
Well of course it is, not getting laid is worse than hell itself.

Well I guess thats my life over then in that case.
Well I guess thats my life over then in that case.
Yeah man. Not being able to have sex will ruin your entire life because we all know sex is the most important thing in life.
Update: His spinal cord has been severed.
Can't imagine how terrible the guy who checked him must feel.
That is why I don't play sports.

When I read that I just felt like shit. Dammit, it's like I'm pissed and sad at the same time. I feel weird that I can care so much for someone I don't even know. It's just sad to think that that kid was paralyzed at such a young age... shit.
