BREAKING NEWS: Andy Whitfield, the 39-year-old star of the New Zealand-filmed series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, has died.
Manager Sam Maydew says Whitfield died Sunday of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in Sydney, Australia.
Whitfield's wife Vashti in a statement called her husband a "beautiful young warrior" who died on a "sunny Sydney morning" in the "arms of his loving wife".
Whitfield - who was born in Wales and lived in Australia - was a virtual unknown when he was cast as the title hero in Spartacus, a hit original series for the Starz network that made waves with its graphic violence and sexuality.
Whitfield was preparing for the second season when he was diagnosed 18 months ago.
In January the network announced that another Australian actor, Liam McIntyre, would take over the role.

I've only seen him in Spartacus and I really enjoyed his portrayal of Spartacus. Rest in peace.
I first seen him on Freddie's video Time Crisis. R.I.P.
Anyone remember the video he made with FreddieW? Also I remember him from Spartacus.
God fucking ninja.

Sorry...
Fucking shame. That show was great and he's a great actor.
Sorry...
No problem.
He is Spartacus.
wow 39 is pretty young to die RIP
He is Spartacus.
He was Spartacus...
Thats horrible, RIP.
Cancer is easily the one of the worst ways to go. Nothing but slow, progressing pain and invasive treatments.
The fact that he died almost immediately after finally striking it big in the acting community makes it all the more tragic.

RIP. Also, he looked kinda healthy in the video.
No!
GOD DAMN IT I THOUGHT THEY SAID HE WAS IN REMISSION!
FUCK CANCER FUCK IT
He was truly a great actor he will be missed.

That's actually pretty much the same thing that happened with my brother.
They told us "Oh yeah, the cancer is going away so he's going to be fine."
Next thing you know, he gets really sick practically overnight and passes away. With something like cancer, you can't ever really be sure. As long as it's there, your life is in danger.
I didn't expect this at all, I'm shocked. R.I.P.

That's fucking rough. Essentially the same deal (likely on a less personal level) we've been going through with my grandfather since about June 2010. Around March they said it was all receding and things were looking fantastic, and too come in for a check in a couple months where they assumed they would see it all killed off.
When the appointment came around we found out it had metastasized. It's the shittiest roller coaster you'll ever be on.
The only real Spartacus I know of is Kirk.

Once again the gods spread the cheeks to ram cock in fucking ass.
R.I.P
I just finished re-watching Blood and Sand a couple days ago...damn.
noooo!
I was looking forwards to seeing him in a new season. :(
He will be missed. RIP
I thought this was about Kirk Douglas, from the 1960 Spartacus. That guy is amazingly still alive.
God damn it. I never watched Spartacus, but saw him on Freddie Wong's video. I'm sad, he looked like a really great guy.

Same sorta thing has happened with my grandpa. He got throat cancer maybe two or so years back. They removed it, basically gave him the all clear and just told him to come in for regular check ups just to be 100% sure everything was good. He never really properly recovered from the treatment (being so old and all) but he continued to push on. Then just recently he went in for one of his regularly scheduled check ups and... well, all of a sudden, between two check ups he's apparently developed DOZENS of tumours in his lungs and a tumour in his brain.
They're not sure how long he has left but it doesn't sound like long.

He's either in a better place or simply doesn't exist. I'd rather be in one of those situations than live like that.
Spartacus was a brilliant show. I liked the Batiatus, shame he had to die in the 2nd (1st) season.
But this guy died for real, too bad.
Aw man, 39?
So much for my day...
goddamnit
why
