This is a game being made by Nine Dots studio. Its like Dark Souls but open world and more survival oriented. They have a kickstarter too: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/271033429/outward-the-adventurer-life-sim
interesting concept. I wanna see more and hopefully it is on early access or something
Yeah they have a Greenlight page: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=424386335
This look awesome. Their Kickstarter doesn't look like it's going to make it though.
That dynamic snow is pretty neat
Interesting, but it's missing the gothic architecture commonly in the souls games. The problem with survival games is that it requires it to be open world with vast plains. Hopefully they put more work into level design to reflect the souls series.
aaaa why am i konwing about this great game just know? i really wish they get funded
I want this
I feel like it ha the potential to be very good but could easily be burdened by bad level design and clunkinessz
Wow I actually had an idea for a game similar to this except singleplayer story based, in a dark fantasy/horror setting, and open world that get's more scary and dangerous the closer you get to the center of the world, which is the final boss area (which you aren't blocked off from trying to get there at the beginning).
Didn't see anything on r/gaming about this So I posted this video there If anything deserves to get hyped and funded, it's this.
It does indeed looks like quite an interesting experience, almost like the Elder Souls game that people have been looking for.
The graphics and UI looks like morrowind
Shit this is a game I actually want to get backed. I don't know if they can do it unless a really popular source posts their story. They seemingly have the third person combat and general weight of the character movement down; looks pretty similar to dark souls 1 and bloodborne in that regard. And that's honestly a huge selling point to me
It looks more like Dragon's Dogma than Dark Souls. That's still really good.
this looks decent but i have yet to have fun with a survival game that isn't Don't Starve
i could never get tired of souls-like games as long as they're done well
i could never get tired of souls-like games as long as they're done well
Agreed. I really like that they want coop form the get co with this game. Wonder if a PvP system will come up
If they just change the camera to be sliiightly over the should it would be better. Or if it was closer to the character. I like the look of this, looks really good for the stage it is in and seems interesting enough.
The interior dungeon thing looked really bad though
Interesting, although it looks pretty clunky. Yeah it looks more like Dragon's Dogma although Dark Souls has more catch. [editline]6th May 2015[/editline] Worried it'll be too unfocused though.
Sadly the devs cancelled the kick starter due to: "It is a rather painful thing to do, but we had to cancel the campaign and redirect our efforts. From the start, it was obvious that without the involvement from the press to help spread the word around, we wouldn't be able to reach enough backers to meet our goal. Running a kickstarter campaign is a very time-consuming effort, and time is a resource we have less and less of. Given that we were obviously not going to meet our goal, we decided that we should focus the rest of our resources on alternative ways to get funding. First, we have submitted an application for something called the Canada Media Fund. If we get approved, then the project is fully funded. It's the best case scenario, but once again we'll need a bit of luck. We should hear back from them in June or July. Secondly, we will try and find either investors or publishers. It is very hard to evaluate our chances of getting one, and it largely depends on how flexible we are with the terms of the contract. The thing is, we aren't. So we'll see if we can find a publisher that has a vision in tune with our own, or find an investor who has a high level of trust in our ability to deliver a high quality game that gamers want. Since looking for a publisher is about as intense as running a Kickstarter, this is where we will be directing our efforts for the time being. Third, we'll try and find ways to generate more revenue from GoD Factory: Wingmen, our previous title. I don't expect that this could fund the next project entirely, but it could definitely buy us more time, increasing our chances of securing a larger investment. "Live long enough to get lucky", as they say. Believe me when I say that no one is more saddened than me that I had to cancel the Kickstarter. Outward is our dream project, something we all want to make at Nine Dots. It's not over yet though. We will keep you posted on updates about the game. We have a new forum where people can stay in close contact with us. If there's enough activity there, we might also send out a playable demo of our game to forum members to gather feedback. Maybe once we have something playable, it will be easier to get the attention from the press and thus build a larger community. Here's the link to the forum: http://ninedotsforums.com/ Thank you 1029 times for your incredible support. We'll do everything we can to make Outward a reality. Those who have known Nine Dots for a long time know that we don't give up easily. - Guillaume" [editline]5th May 2015[/editline] still some hope for it to be made though
I wonder if they even did any PR with media outlets to get some popularity? Surely at least some game journalism sites would dig the "Open world Dark Souls" slogan.
