Oh the irony.
He deserves a good boot to the face

what, why?
Honestly, the kid just seems like he didn't know what to say.
He's right, kids shouldn't be allowed to play it, give them games like GTA and Hitman instead.

At least they'll be playing quality filth.
Well it's true.
'LEGO! Do you remember those?'
Okay, I laughed a little when the reporter mentioned Lincoln Logs :v:.
-snip-
I have had a change of thought on my previous statement.
Most of you are guilty of playing rated m games when you were young, so why is it such a big deal for kids in this generation?
The idea that kids need to be treated innocently is a complete social conception.
I see nothing wrong with having kids play these games as long as they get taught the basics. Game is a game, its art and entertainment, relax with it and don't let it influence real life decisions.
It all depends on the kid, or rather, the raising of the kid.
I could use some anecdotal evidence about me and just about every other guy I know that plays games. They all started young on stuff like the original Half-Life. None of us are in jail yet and I'd like to think of myself as a good guy.
It really does irritate me how parents are informed before buying the game for their children that it is rated M for a reason still blame media and large companies for making games so violent for their 8 year olds.
I went to visit my cousin after not seeing him for like 3 years. He was 6 back then and loved nothing more then to play legos and toys and pretty all the stuff that any other kid should love doing. When I went over we basically just sat in his garage playing Black Ops and Saints Row the Third (with the fucking GIMP MISSION). What the fuck happened!?
We seriously need to pass a law or some thing saying that not even with adult supervision can children be able to get M rated games.
What about the kids who ARE mature and can handle them?

I played GTA3 when I was 10 and it didn't affect me other than to build a lifetime love of sandbox video games.
This may come as a surprise but some kids do realize that a video game is just a video game, and beating people to death with a bat then shooting police cars with a tank isn't the right thing to do.

um dude it's impossible to say video games did or did not have an effect on you. you are hardly objective
we just have to go by the scientific evidence which is that violent media can increase aggressiveness in children.

Care to provide a source for that scientific evidence?

Probably because loads of them are raised on COD which seems to be super generic.
Where as I was raised on Half Life, Unreal Tournament and the likes, thanks to my brother.

How is Unreal Tournament less "generic" than CoD.
The thing is though, like every kid ever has been subjected to violence.

Because now they have microphones and online multiplayer.
Man, I don't think the kid was being hypocritical or ironic. I think he was just speaking from a "I have played this game before, people my age and younger shouldn't really play it." standpoint
Poor kid, all he wanted to do was play on his Wii U :P
But for me I think it stands like this.
Parents should not buy their kids m rated video games or 18's as they are here in the UK simply because kids don't fully grasp the understanding of how video games work and some can get incredibly aggressive when they play it or when they are not allowed to play it, I've seen many kids (including myself) go pretty much batshit insane when you really want to play a game and you can't, or you're playing the game and you get stuck. I think kids it should be a total no. Keep them innocent for a while, sure teach them how to use a computer or console but don't let them see all that violence and gore because they don't have a clue what it all means, after a while obviously buy your growing up son/daughter a video game but start them off with non violent games then after a while let them play any game they want as long as they don't start getting crazy!
Is there even a correlation between violent videogames and violent tendencies in children? Most of the people I know grew up playing this stuff and they're all what I'd call normal people.
If I have a kid, I'll probably end up getting them some M rated games, but no way am I letting him touch online multiplayer until he's mature enough.

"mature" is a blanket term. If you're able to delineate fiction from reality, then you should be able to, unlike almost all other kids that can't.
