• PETA Asks Turkey, Texas, to Change Name to 'Tofurkey'
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, PETA couldn't help but run a-fowl of the town of Turkey, Texas. As a gesture of goodwill toward the Thanksgiving bird, the animal activist group asked the small town of under 500 to change its name to "Tofurkey" -- the vegan equivalent of the holiday's traditional main course. Needless to say, the townsfolk, whose forefathers named the town in honor of the wild birds they found roosting there, were not amused. "I think it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard," said one ruffled resident. "We're insulted," said another. "We love turkey, and we're proud of being Turkey." To their credit, PETA said that in exchange for the name change, they would prepare a Thanksgiving banquet for the whole town -- a vegan banquet, that is. PETA Asks Texas Town to Change Name to 'Tofurkey' This isn't the first time PETA has used the holidays as an occasion to promote its cause. As we reported last year, PETA was interested in renting the notorious "Amityville Horror" house in Long Island, N.Y., to stage a Halloween-inspired art exhibit: "The Amityville Slaughterhouse of Horrors." The installation would have included animatronic chickens with a soundtrack of whirring blades and animal screams, according to PETA Vice President Tracy Reiman. Are they gonna ask the country too
A vegan banquet? I'd rather burn in hell than visit that. Turkey is good, tofu is not. Deal with it.

I wonder what the man they call Ghost has to say about this...;
Who cares? I'm watching Breaking Bad.
A vegan banquet? I'd rather burn in hell than visit that. Turkey is good, tofu is not. Deal with it.
Tofu is pretty great if you know how to cook with it properly
Dear Peta, if you're going to complain about animal mistreatment, please complain about animal mistreatment. Don't complain about virtual rats and place-names.
peta's supposed to be pro-animal and they're against a town being named after one why not rename buffallo, NY or bear, AZ b/c everyone totally eats those anymore
Tofu is pretty great if you know how to cook with it properly
Wanna know what's better? Meat.
Tofu is pretty great if you know how to cook with it properly
Not in my experience. It always tastes so bland, unless there is some good sauce/seasoning at hand.
Wanna know what's better? Meat.
Depends on the meat Personally I can't stand pork with the exception of some sausages
Tofu is pretty great if you know how to cook with it properly
that and turkey actually tastes kinda gross [editline]17th November 2011[/editline]
Wanna know what's better? Meat.
not turkey though
Tofu is pretty great if you know how to cook with it properly
It's even better when you sprinkle it with Bacon, soak it in Blood and serve it under 3-5 inches of Beef.
PETA doesn't love animals, it just hates people.
if you do this then we will make food for the whole town. vegan food that is. another item to add to petas very extensive list of mentally retarded things they have tried to do.
They're asking the wrong place. Meat, beef in particular, is part of every Texans daily nutrition. They'll never give into petas demands.
I like the residents' reaction.
It's even better when you sprinkle it with Bacon, soak it in Blood and serve it under 3-5 inches of Beef.
I've used it in recipes that included beef broth so yeah, if you want to include meat with it go ahead
if we aren't supposed to eat animals why are they so tasty
i dont get why a town being called turkey promotes the mistreatment of animals?? its just a name
go away peta
