The 64-bit Chrome for Mac still is a work in progress, though
Edit...HAVE MADE!
only 7 years after windows desktop machines gained support for it!1
The firefox community already made this happen, a long time ago.
I've been running it from the beta channel for a bit laptop is really weak but I've noticed fairly decent improvements thanks to it honestly I'm not really sure why it took so long
I just updated and switched over to 64 bit Chrome. I think they changed the font rendering or something because everything is now annoying to read, like when you disable ClearType on Windows. Anyone else have the same problem? [editline]26th August 2014[/editline] text looks thinner and more jaggedy than what it was before
Holy shit the new font rendering is horrific
Yeah I just fixed it for me. Go to chrome://flags/ and ENABLE Disable DirectWrite.
Now Chrome can eat INFINITE RAM! [sp]j/k, i like chrome, plz dont kill me[/sp]
How have they not shipped 64-bit versions already? that kind of rubbish isn't acceptable on OS X or Linux.
What's wrong with you people, why do you prefer blurrier text, keep directwrite enabled you'll get used to it in a day and you'll wonder why the fuck it wasn't enabled before --Woops, updated Chrome, saw the difference, gonna leave the post here but I think otherwise now
Wow this just happened? Linux distros have had 64-bit Chrome for ages and ages, I just assumed Windows had a 64 bit version too :v:
What's wrong with you people, why do you prefer blurrier text, keep directwrite enabled you'll get used to it in a day and you'll wonder why the fuck it wasn't enabled before
The new rendering is the blurrier one. I'm leaving it on though I'm sure it will be fine. Old: New:
Eh it's alright. Font isn't really that big of a deal. Good they finally released a 64-bit version though. Just updated and swapped over.
The new rendering is the blurrier one. I'm leaving it on though I'm sure it will be fine. Old: New:
Oh shit my mistake, I'm using Opera right now and I thought it meant that the text was blurry like it is in the Steam client browser (fixed in the beta), My bad :c
Oh so thats why my font looks weird. Anyway to get back to the old one?
So will it like load faster now or what
Oh so thats why my font looks weird. Anyway to get back to the old one?

Yeah I just fixed it for me. Go to chrome://flags/ and ENABLE Disable DirectWrite.
they also fixed 4k support
Showing im dumb
Whoop the doop, I didnt read quite well the enable the disable, thanks a lot
font kerning looks like shit on high-dpi screens if you turn directwrite on though
I either can't find the download links for 64 bits or I'm extremely blind...
I either can't find the download links for 64 bits or I'm extremely blind...
go to settings > about google chrome and it should show you if chrome is updating or not if it says it's up to date then the update hasn't rolled out for you yet edit: oh, you have to manually download the 64 bit version, someone posted a link a few posts below
I either can't find the download links for 64 bits or I'm extremely blind...
-snip Ehmmett's is better-
font kerning looks like shit on high-dpi screens if you turn directwrite on though
That's the point? You're not turning it on, you're enabling it to be disabled.
ClearType just looks disgusting on small text. Most fonts and colours have an awful red banding effect on the sides of each letter, which in some cases can make it even harder to read the bloody text.
Direct Download (this is what I used): https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/beta.html
It's not in beta anymore, it's on the stable channel now
Ah here we go. Got it now, thanks. Wow what, groovy font. No weed, I did not smoke any officer.
It's not in beta anymore, it's on the stable channel now
Yeah I just nabbed the first link from Googling "64-bit Chrome". I snipped my link.
I either can't find the download links for 64 bits or I'm extremely blind...
https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/index.html?platform=win64 Oh I was too late...
This reminds me of when I first installed W7 on a brand new computer. It had this crazy looking font aswell, but it felt so different and so fresh from everything else, I quite like it.
go to settings > about google chrome and it should show you if chrome is updating or not if it says it's up to date then the update hasn't rolled out for you yet
It's a separate version, you can't get the 64 bit version just by updating the 32 bit one. Also for those that don't like DirectWrite: chrome://flags/#disable-direct-write
