• Pentax K-X taking a long time to save image after long exposure.

So I got myself a Pentax K-X for really cheap from work a few months ago, have been using it quite a bit over that time. Today I got myself one of those shutter remotes, so I can do those extremely long shutter times. When I tried the remote for the first time, I had the shutter open for about 20 seconds, when I pressed the button to close it, the camera seemed to become unresponsive for about 20 seconds afterwards. Did a longer, 40 second exposure, again when I close the shutter again, it became unresponsive for 40 seconds. I tried it again this evening, doing an 8 minute exposure from my balcony, when I closed it, it took 8 minutes to become responsive again. I have tried not using the remote and doing a 5 second exposure, which saved instantly became responsive again. Tried with remote, became unresponsive for 5 seconds. Is this a normal thing for DSLRs as I have never tried it before now. If it is any help, the camera firmware is 1.03. Noise reduction is off.
The camera will typically take the same period of time as the photo you took to process it and save etc. So if you take a 30sec exposure, it will take about 30 sec to save it.

But you said that the noise reduction is off, so that's odd.
on my Pentax K20D it took a dark frame (even if noise reduction is off) so I would guess it is the camera processing the dark frame to remove hot pixels
I have a 5D mk1 - it takes a good while to process long exposures.. It seems pretty normal as it affects many people, I wouldn't worry about it bro.
It's taking a dark frame as other people have said. Usually there's an option to disable it somewhere. It's under Custom Functions in Canon DSLRs.
