LOUIS, Missouri - An off-duty police officer shot and killed a home invader in suburban St. Louis on Saturday evening, and family say the two had recently had an argument about the growing unrest over police violence. Police say the off-duty officer, who has not been named, was home when the deceased suspect rang the doorbell on Saturday evening. CBS affiliate KMOV-TV reports the suspect was known to the family. At the time of the incident, the police officer was home with his wife, mother-in-law and two children. They ran upstairs to hide when the suspect appeared. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Tyler Gebhard, then grabbed a concrete planter and threw it through a window in the rear of the house when he was denied entry to the home. Once inside, the off-duty officer shot him. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police told KMOV the man had emotional issues and had issued threats to the family online before the shooting.
guess the cop shouldn't have said 'say that to my face faggot not online and see what happens'
guess the cop shouldn't have said 'say that to my face faggot not online and see what happens'
Ha ha ha ha, someone legit almost got murdered in their home by someone who could have legit somehow found out about his home. But man what a star rating.
A Cold Caller? :v: For real though, legit trying to physically harm someone over a fucking argument?
Sometimes arguements lead to violence believe it or not
Police told KMOV the man had emotional issues and had issued threats to the family online before the shooting.
damn police always killing the mentally ill instead of helping them. Should have used his deescalation techniques
damn police always killing the mentally ill instead of helping them. Should have used his deescalation techniques
Should have shot him in the leg with a tazer and hugged him, right
Ha ha ha ha, someone legit almost got murdered in their home by someone who could have legit somehow found out about his home. But man what a star rating.
Can't even make a joke if someone could have died these days. Man, these SJWs are totally ruining FP.
damn police always killing the mentally ill instead of helping them. Should have used his deescalation techniques
Literally no-one is saying this
Should have shot him in the leg with a tazer and hugged him, right
Or this Nice straw-man
Going onto anyone's property after arguing with them, then destroying their property and trying to enter is probably a really easy way to end up a chalk outline. Especially if that person you're going after is a cop who's armed by virtue of being a cop. Shit, he probably just had to walk down a hallway after the guy left the front door and headed to the back, just to shoot him. Shit, talk about walking yourself into a disadvantageous situation.
Is this reverse swatting? Trolling people until they home invade a police officer, instead of sending the police to invade them.
Literally no-one is saying this Or this Nice straw-man
I think Scorpious is being ironic. Mentally ill or not the police officer was in every right to do this.
Literally no-one is saying this Or this Nice straw-man
Those posts went so far over your head that NASA is tracking it in orbit
Or this Nice straw-man
:speechless:
Can't even make a joke if someone could have died these days. Man, these SJWs are totally ruining FP.
I can't tell who is joking and who isn't but making jokes about dead people isn't a big deal and the cold caller line made me smile.
Ha ha ha ha, someone legit almost got murdered in their home by someone who could have legit somehow found out about his home. But man what a star rating.
Not everybody smashing a window intends to murder someone, though what he intended to do is impossible to discern now
Not everybody smashing a window intends to murder someone, though what he intended to do is impossible to discern now
It's not impossible. Look at what he was carrying, what he had in his car, and what he said online, and you can get a pretty good idea of what his intentions were.
Not everybody smashing a window intends to murder someone, though what he intended to do is impossible to discern now
With his family in the house I don't think he wanted to take the risk. I wouldn't either nor do I blame anyone else in a situation like this.
Not everybody smashing a window intends to murder someone, though what he intended to do is impossible to discern now
True intentions don't really matter in this sort of situation. You can never actually completely absolutely truly discern someone's intentions. There is always the possibility that someone doesn't actually mean you any harm, or that they do mean you harm. You have to act based on what their actions indicate. If someone threatens you and then forcibly breaks into your home by smashing in your window, I think it's reasonable to assume they intend to do you harm.
Not everybody smashing a window intends to murder someone, though what he intended to do is impossible to discern now
You don't take chances when you have your family around. This article seems kind of baity anyway, if he was off duty, why even mention it? Home invasions end like this all the time.
You don't take chances when you have your family around. This article seems kind of baity anyway, if he was off duty, why even mention it? Home invasions end like this all the time.
The fact that he's a police officer immediately destroys the possibility of a this turning into a gun debate, for one.
A little back story to this: I'm a member in a Facebook group called "Camp Mendleton." Well Mr. Tyler here threatened one of our member's little brother, asking for his address saying he was going to kill him because he was white. Well, a lot of our members ended up messaging him calling him out, sending screenshots of the conversation to his church and family members. Some people ended up sending their addresses to him challenging him to come to their houses to "kill them", I wonder if this guy was one of them.
Annnnnd of course the guy is mentally ill. I fucking hate it when they get killed. I will never forgive the police officer for this. I will never, EVER accept the mentally ill getting shot no matter what.
Annnnnd of course the guy is mentally ill. I fucking hate it when they get killed. I will never forgive the police officer for this. I will never, EVER accept the mentally ill getting shot no matter what.
Breaking and entering is still illegal though.
guess the cop shouldn't have said 'say that to my face faggot not online and see what happens'
Guess the assailant shouldn't have escalated an online argument with very real violence
Are you being serious or just being sarcastic?
Has to be sarcasm. Unless real life suddenly became a spy movie, you can't justify breaking and entering, or saying to someone that you're going to kill them.
Annnnnd of course the guy is mentally ill. I fucking hate it when they get killed. I will never forgive the police officer for this. I will never, EVER accept the mentally ill getting shot no matter what.
self defense is justified when the defender is striking back at a credible threat. That credible threat could be the most well adjusted person in the world or completely deranged. I mean how would the officer even know the guy was mentally ill to begin with?
damn police always killing the mentally ill instead of helping them. Should have used his deescalation techniques
Uh Disagree with me all you like but if somebody threatens my family, shows up and forces his way into my home with the intent and ability to hurt somebody, you better believe I would blow him away before stopping to think "Oh he's just mentally ill". Being mentally ill might make it more difficult to de-escalate the situation anyway
Annnnnd of course the guy is mentally ill. I fucking hate it when they get killed. I will never forgive the police officer for this. I will never, EVER accept the mentally ill getting shot no matter what.
Not even when they're intentionally endangering someone else's life? Yeah, it's horrible, the guy can't be held entirely responsible for his actions, but if someone's actively trying to kill or injure you, it doesn't matter what their mental state is.
Annnnnd of course the guy is mentally ill. I fucking hate it when they get killed. I will never forgive the police officer for this. I will never, EVER accept the mentally ill getting shot no matter what.
It doesn't really matter. If his life was in danger, it was justified. Being mentally ill doesn't really matter at that moment Missouri defense law for anyone who cares BTW
2. A person may not use deadly force upon another person under the circumstances specified in subsection 1 of this section unless: (1) He or she reasonably believes that such deadly force is necessary to protect himself, or herself or her unborn child, or another against death, serious physical injury, or any forcible felony; (2) Such force is used against a person who unlawfully enters, remains after unlawfully entering, or attempts to unlawfully enter a dwelling, residence, or vehicle lawfully occupied by such person;
Even if he felt he wasn't in danger, it's still his right in the state of Missouri to defend himself with deadly force just because the dude forced entry
