http://www.syfy.com/videos/Robot Combat League/vid:2626626 I've just spotted this on Syfy's website after looking at Defiance, and holy shit robots.
Get ready for a reinvention of gladiatorial combat for the 21st century! Each week, Robot Combat League will feature tournament-style battles between eight-feet tall, state-of-the-art humanoid robots controlled by human "robo-jockeys". Hosting the series is Chris Jericho, the wildly popular WWE wrestler and multifaceted performer. The idea of robots in battle has captured the imagination for generations. Now, through ground-breaking engineering, the fusion of a human's fighting spirit with a powerful robotic machine built for destruction has become a reality. This extraordinary new series will feature twelve teams consisting of a fighter (a "robo-jockey") and a robotics engineer (a "robo-tech") from myriad backgrounds including a race car driver, an Olympic athlete, a National Guard helicopter pilot along with a mix of professional fighters and software engineers. Each team is paired with its own unique robot and will fight in a first-of-its kind competition using a high-tech exo-suit that translates their movements to their robot. Each fight consists of three rounds of intense action, with the winning team advancing in the competition. The robots of the Robot Combat League were designed and created by robotics expert Mark Setrakian, a leader in the sport of robotic combat. In his distinguished career, Setrakian has developed life-saving robotic systems, and pioneered cutting-edge creature effects, animatronics and control technology for such films as Men In Black, The Grinch and Hellboy. Oh great, its like a Russian doll, except it fucking kills you.

Steel Cyclone is secretly Air Man.
i watched it it looked really fake
wii60 beat me to it ...
first episode
it took half an hour for them to actually get to the fight, and then it turns out to be fake as shit incredible
Mark (the guy who built the robots) belongs to a facebook robotics group I frequent, he's a real cool dude. He was answering some questions about the show a few days ago, I can gladly screencap the thread if anyone else is interested. It's a real shame though that production companies are willing to spend thousands of dollars to do something like this but no one is ever willing to send a camera crew down to Robogames and start up a Battlebots rehash...
it took half an hour for them to actually get to the fight, and then it turns out to be fake as shit incredible
well robot tech isn't really that advanced yet i dont think they have the budget or time for every single robot to be like Real steel.
I appreciate what they're trying to do here, but damn it looks pretty fake. Put some saws on their hands or something.
Rock em sock em robots on crack?
Shows like Battlebots, Robot Wars were so much better. They need to bring them back on TV
Take out the stupid fake sparky shit and it's actually pretty cool. Now we just need to equip the robot with buzz saws and jackhammers, THEN we'll have a real sport.
This is the sort of thing I always wanted to see.. Like a step up from that old show Robot-Wars. Real shame about all that ridiculous hollywood stuff.. [editline]5th March 2013[/editline] How much force is behind those robot swings?

I remember there was an old CBBC show like this except the fighters were computer generated characters the teams made. That show, though cool, has nothing on this. Though at least those were made by the teams.
Aha, Razor. All about Hypnodisk son.
Bun that, more like hypnodicks amirite Crash 2 is where it's fucking at, it and razor were beastly
I like the designs of most of the bots, but yeah, it does seem pretty fakey. Maybe the fights are predetermined without the contestants knowledge or maybe the whole things is completely scripted, but the whole thing doesn't really seem that 'real'. The gratuitous and superficial sparks and all the editing don't really help alleviate that fact either. I'll still maybe watch more of these online if they pop up. I loved watching Robots Wars and all those other shows when they were in syndication, so this is pretty cool too, even if it's a bit hammy.
Chaos 2 will send any robot in the air!
man this would be so cool if it wasn't shit
I can't wait until we make the switch from hydraulics to much more smooth electronic muscles. Then we can have robots that aren't so jerky and aren't simply just bumping into each other.
I love the house robots, but that was awesome.
He'll fuck you up.
Got my hope's up for some classic robot action, you know. Robots beating the crap out of each other? Yeah... I'm kinda disappointed here. It just looks like Fightbox, which basically shares the same concept as this but a bit more real but, somehow a bit more shit. I want to see robots bashing the crap out of each other, I'm not exactly interested in the training and the trials and all that stuff. I just want to see some robots killing each other in the name of entertainment and to appease my inner child who was brought up with watching Robot Wars on BBC and Gundam Wing on Toonami. Now, I'm not entirely used to American TV, seeing that i am British here and we don't have a awkward as all hell advert schedule like the Americans (they might think otherwise) but... for the love of Christ, just get on with it for fuck sake. And your telling me that these "robots" are given to them? Not crafted with their own parts, electronics, blood, sweat and tears and whatever can be found in garage at the time, and above all that some fucking passion? This is basically a giant Rock 'em Sock 'em robots toy... Now, I've not heard anything about this "Robogeddon" show on Discovery Channel being made by James Cameron. The last time we heard anything about that was back in April last year. But it does sound like what i want, what everyone wants, Robots fighting to the death, without the boring shit your seeing here with Robot Combat League. More action, less talk. Now, if James Cameron would kindly get onto that and give us some fighting robot's, then all's right in the world. Edit: Oh yes! And by the way... [thumb]http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20091201165149/robotwars/images/5/54/Diotiornado.jpg[/thumb] Diotoir Master Race.
i think this is something that someone will find in a pile of burnt dvds in 30 years for now and post online for laughs
Is this turning into a Battlebots thread? Snake was a pretty cool awesome bot, but I don't think it ever won a match, did it? Also, Diesector was amazing.
I'd watch this if they did four things: 1. Let the machines actually take real damage, rather than the machines being rigged for failures. 2. Revamp the machine's base design so they're more mobile and maneuverable. 3. Let the teams customize the armor themselves. 4. On the final round the machines are equipped with actual weapons, like saws, pincers, drills, and jackhammers and shit.
You might already know this, but Snake was built by the same guy who built the robots in RCL. He also made Mechadon back in the day as well. As well as having won quite a few fights in the US Robot Wars with "The Master'
What's the point of robot battles without destruction? If they want this to become a thing they need less talking, more weapons. And fireworks don't count as destruction. Also, those other bots are nice and all but Ziggo is obviously the best.
