I know there's a Guitar Mega-thread, but these guitars are so god-damn awesome they deserve their own place. PRS are an American guitar company founded by Paul Reed Smith in 1985. They specialise in high-end guitars, and they also produce special "Private Stock" guitars. These things are fucking badass but also expensive as hell as each one is made to custom spec (for example, certain guitars have inlays made from ivory, taken from unearthed extinct woolly mammoths. How awesome is that). They are used by members of Nickelback, Creed, Rush, Linkin Park, Dream Theater and Jane's Addiction, as well as other bands that I haven't really heard of. They're made from mahogany and they usually have maple tops. All the models aside from the SE range have carved maple tops. Hardware wise, most guitars have PRS designed locking-tuners and either a PRS trem or one-piece stopbar. They also have pickups which are wound in-house and mainly translucent finishes so the grain of the wood clearly comes through. Enough talking. . . guitar porn time :downs:: This guitar has one of the most insane necks I've ever seen. 25th Anniversary Dragon. Cost: Around £13,000 An example of a Private Stock Guitar. The only information that is given is the Private Stock number: 437. I assume it's around £5,000 though: PRS Custom 24. Their first ever guitar and one of their most popular too. Price is usually about £2000, and there is a new 25th Anniversary version as well now, the picture of that is below: Finally, the guitar that I hope to be getting soon. The lowly PRS SE Custom, from their cheap SE range. These aren't hand-built in America but hey, they're only £400 and they still play great: So yeh, I love these guitars and I was wondering if anyone here has one or has had any experience with one. What do you think fellow Facepunchians?
Pretty damn sweet.
I'm an Ibanez man myself, but goddamn PRS guitars are sexy.
I have to say, there are some mighty fine looking Ibanezs. My mate has one with such an incredible sunburst on it, sustain is unbelievable as well.
Well, I didn't know what PRS was all about, and now I do. Have an informative.
Is it just me or in the fourth and fifth pictures, the upper and lower half of the body dont match. Does this mean the Prs has the neck and bridge as one peice and the body is glued on, i believe it is called neck through construction (correct me if im wrong).
The custom 24 is epic. Some day I will build one :3: Also to above poster, PRS are either set in neck, or glued on. I haven't seen any neck through so I don't know if they make them.

Oh my god, that 25th anniversary dragon... best. fret inlay. ever.
I know the neck is set, but it looks like the body is built around the neck and pickups
Not really sure what you mean there, all i know is that the neck is either glued on or it's neck-through.
He's sorta right. The neck juts into the bottom neck pickup cavity, it's got a tongue like piece of wood to protrudes out further into the body.
Steinberger and Ibanez smash this puny guitar company!
Those are sexy... But are they any good?
Steinberger and Ibanez smash this puny guitar company!
...no.
Steinberger and Ibanez smash this puny guitar company!
Steinberger are are pretty sterile guitars. Synthetic body and neck Materials = :geno: I'll give them props on the tuning bridge though, what an epic idea. Ibanez does some nice stuff, but doesn't compare in quality to PRS.
If anyone wants a PRS wallpaper which I made go ahead (: It's in 1680X1050
I've got a PRS SE custom. Fucking amazing guitar. A whole load of my favourite guitarists use them aswell. Steve Wilson, Mikael Akerfeldt, and John Petrucci (sort of)
No kind of guitar deserves a mega thread But thanks for the wallpaper though

I know nothing about PRS, do they make custom basses as well?
The only Bass I know that they make is this one.
dang that's pretty nice, but I've never seen the point with having a 5th string besides the added range.
I usually hate the look of PRS guitars, but that bass :fap:
It does look incredible, I bet it costs a hell of a lot though.
dang that's pretty nice, but I've never seen the point with having a 5th string besides the added range.
Well, that is the reason that people get basses with 5 strings, added range. What else could it be?
I usually hate the look of PRS guitars, but that bass :fap:
I don't see any bass?
That bass is beautiful...
dang that's pretty nice, but I've never seen the point with having a 5th string besides the added range.
I find with my 4 string, I`m fairly constricted when I`m tapping, and a fifth string would make it easier to play a melody or chords along with the low end. Not to mention that I find it harder to properly hit a G, F#, F, etc. on the E string by just pressing down my left hand, and a low B would remedy that quite well. [editline]01:51PM[/editline]
I don't see any bass?

The only Bass I know that they make is this one.
.
7-8 string guitars and 5 string basses annoy me for some reason. It always seems like more of a gimmick than something that's worth designing a new bridge, new pickups, and using multiple truss rods is worth. (but this knob goes to 11!)
I think it`s half-and-half, actually. Sure, there`s the range and the new positions available and all that, but half the time it seems to be done for more of a "mines bigger than yours" effect than anything else. I notice this more with 8+ stringed guitars and 7+ string basses, though
I seriously doubt that any bassist that claim to need an 8-string should be a bassist.
