• I think Facepunch just caused a major problem on my hard drive (malicious website)

What the crap... Okay so today I was coming back home from work and decided to lurk in the forums. Firefox says this website is malicious. I just ignore the warning cuz' I know facepunch isn't 4chan or OIFY or whatever. After of an hour of FACEPUNCH BROWSING ONLY I got my computer a black screen every time I press a mouse key or keyboard button. I noticed whenever I do one of the mouse moves, the mouse cursor moves to my Computer. It went to C disk and selected everything and attempted delete. I then immediately restarted my computer with the tower button. When I restarted, 30GB of my files we're gone. Steam, music and some other files we're removed. I have to re-download 30GB of files to steam now (my net speed is 256kb/s max). It is 80% that someone probably hacked Facepunch silently, and it got malicious software in there as well. I didn't browse any other websites except Facepunch. If anyone is reading this, flee your web explorers and use your anti-viruses, trojan removers and activate your firewall before it's too late!
I guess the the warnings were true [editline]12th November 2010[/editline] Also i have had no problems yet
Your computer is obviously telling you something.
Nope. My computer doesn't go black screens and tries to destruct itself as far as I'm concerned. *prepares PC interrogation kit*
Nothing is wrong with this website, my virus guard is over sensitive and it didn't pick up anything yet. I think someone listed Facepunch as malicious only to cause Garry troubles.
Someone in another thread said this 'malicious file' is a rootkit. Seems you just got one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rootkit
Looks like you overreacted.
(...)It went to C disk and selected everything and attempted delete.(...) (...)When I restarted, 30GB of my files we're gone.(...)
How fucking strange. [editline]o[/editline] It appears I have misread something here, I thought you said that "I" deleted the files, not "It". Sorry for the mistake.
WTH is this bullshit anyways

Out of all the... Do people not believe in viruses? Look at what happened to facepunch before. It got crashed down a lot of times. It could be almost the same thing. I'll stop going here until the warnings are out or an outer source tells me the warnings are gone.

The part about files being gone is caused by you deleting them.
How fucking strange.
If this is sarcasm... I saw 'deleting' tab on windows. I tried to react fast so I just restarted my PC.
When using chrome, it reported that the site has malicious files. I think theres a virus around here.
You're wrong.
You overreacted, that's for sure. The part about files being gone is caused by you deleting them.
And how could I possibly scroll to my computer, select everything and delete everything? There's no goddamn logical explanation.
There is. But there's no way you can stumble upon it unless you're an idiot and clicked one of the malicious links that led to it. The posts are old.
Good you came back to tell us, but aren't you worried that you'll lose your files again? Thanks man, your sacrifice means a lot to us.
-snip-
I searched the computer, and i got a few virus warnings, also the computer is slow as hell.
I'm currently running my browser with facepunch in sandboxie, I'll post back in about 30 minutes after browsing to say if any suspicious files are found in the sand-boxed folder. But I doubt there will be anything unsafe.
Good you came back to tell us, but aren't you worried that you'll lose your files again? Thanks man, your sacrifice means a lot to us.
I'm warned now. Next time this happens (even if it will happen) I'll know what to do. At first I was like 'what the hell, probably graphics glitch'. Not 'holy shit virus must restart'.
Every time I come to facepunch recently I've gotten a warning that it's a malicious website. I'm not agreeing with the OP or anything, I just thought it was relevant.
And how could I possibly scroll to my computer, select everything and delete everything? I thought you overreacted and started deleting all your files. But yeah, thanks for the warning.

Alright peoples, let's hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.
If you're worried about a virus, don't browse FP until the problem is fixed.
How old are you? I'm only asking because I'm curious, not to insult you in any way.
What are you then, a pedophile?
Every time I come to facepunch recently I've gotten a warning that it's a malicious website. I'm not agreeing with the OP or anything, I just thought it was relevant.
I am too, its only firefox doing it for me.
Great, can you link me to your sandbox/vm client?
http://www.sandboxie.com/ --- Ok within the few minutes I've been running in sandbox mode I've noticed a few files suddenly appearing, those files are in "D:\Windows\system32\CatRoot2" Don't know if they're legit, or not.
