• Indiana Parents Vote 'No Gays Allowed' for Students' New Years Eve Ball
The Vincennes New Years Eve Ball is a tradition for parents and students of Vincennes Lincoln High School. It's a formal, black-tie affair held in a rented banquet hall on the campus of Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana, (pop. 18,069). The "private, invitation only" dance for teens is an opportunity for student-couples to spend the evening dancing and celebrating with the one they love -- a milestone moment among many high school memories made. Well, at least for heterosexual couples. Since 2004, the New Years Eve Ball invitations have required "traditional couples only" -- traditional couple defined as one boy and one girl. And within the last week, according to Twitter #LHSSSA (Lincoln High School Super Straight Alliance), some students agree with the "traditional couples only" definition, perceived or policy, with tweets such as "We don't cheer for queers" and #StraightPower. These few students fail to consider that they've created a permanent digital trail showcasing and preserving their bigotry indefinitely, a digital trail available to college admissions counselors and potential employers. Just as their parents have preserved their bigotry indefinitely, for the world to see. Are the students parroting their parents?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/j-patrick-redmond/ball4all-indiana-parents-_b_5971100.html?utm_hp_ref=tw Basically, an annual ball that happens at a university in the city of Vincennes, Indiana (just southwest of my town) has been for straight people only and is only now been under scrutiny since a recent Twitter trend supporting bigotry and homophobia arose. People are going to vote on whether or not same-sex couples should be allowed to attend. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it will pull through. The southern part of Indiana is still riddled with outdated values, with the remnants of the KKK still active in those parts.
Indiana. Why am I not surprised.
'Lincoln High School Super Straight Alliance' This sounds like something on the GTA radios

Also, "Lincoln High School Super Straight Alliance"? Who thought it was a good idea to be super, when south park has ingrained that to be customary to effeminate men.
Vincennes is full of preppy fuckheads anyway, I'm not surprised at all. Whatever, in the end, you can never stop the funk.

I live in the only little blue island in southern Indiana. Go a few miles in any direction and you're back in the 1950s. Very poor, very racist, very shitty places to live. If it weren't for my little university town of less-shitty people, I'd have gotten the fuck out of here years ago.
Drive 20 minutes to Vincennes everyday and can confirm it's a shit hole. Glad to see this story getting more attention because it's pretty shitty and Indiana needs to get its head out of its ass.
Fucking really? "dem goddamn faygits gonna sumhow fuk up muh night! cuz dey gay das how!"
that far south in indiana is basically kentucky ironically up here in richmond (the former national HQ for the KKK) there's all kinds of lgbt support in our high school
Why in the fuck are parents voting? This is a college? Just because parents are going with high school students doesn't involve them. This is a matter of civil rights and equality.

The committee parents fund the event and regard it as a "private party," not all Lincoln High School students or couples are invited -- certainly not Lincoln High School LGBT student-couples.

A letter sent to the Vincennes Community School Board and the high school's principal kindly asked them to review the New Years Eve Ball committee's exclusionary and discriminatory practices. (Read the letter here.) A copy was also sent to the New Years Eve Ball committee. The school board replied in a positive and affirming manner, agreeing to reach out to committee parents, asking them to reconsider their "traditional couples only" policy.
I think this is an unofficial thing that isn't tied to the school.
that far south in indiana is basically kentucky
I was in Kentucky not too long ago. A lot of it actually looks better than most of southern Indiana.
that far south in indiana is basically kentucky ironically up here in richmond (the former national HQ for the KKK) there's all kinds of lgbt support in our high school
Far south Indiana is it's own thing, whenever I go up there from Louisville it's terrifying. I always see a bunch of borderline inbreeds that look like they want to kill themselves. Granted I haven't lived anywhere in Kentucky becides Louisville and everyone I've met here is super supportive of LGBT people.
I think this is an unofficial thing that isn't tied to the school.
I don't know, it's just being hosted on their campus rubbing me the wrong way. The school should tell them to fuck off and host it at a fundamentalist church if they're going to act that way.
Gay couples should find lesbian couples and pair up to get allowed in then ditch them and dance with their real partners.
Vincennes is full of preppy fuckheads anyway, I'm not surprised at all. Whatever, in the end, you can never stop the funk.
Really? Because Vincennes University is kind of a ghetto school. Anyways, this is just another example of the fine state I live in. When every other state takes a step forward, we take two back. I'm lucky enough to live in the "wierdo" part of the state that is basically closer to Chicago than it is to the rest of Indiana. We even vote democrat majority!

This is so mind numbingly stupid. Someone else's sexual orientation has no effect on your bigoted ass. I can't wait for people to realize how retarded they look when they act like this.
Lincoln High School Super Straight Alliance
I wonder if anyone just calls them the SS.
Fuck it. Not like anyone who was gay would enjoy themselves there anyways. Of course it's about the principle, but from what I understand they're not missing out on much anyways.
two things i've heard about indiana 1) they are horribly racist/homophobic/haters-of-non-christian-whites 2) jesus is somewhere amongst all that corn, i've known like 3 guys who've gone out that way and converted to some fundimental denomination of Christianity

So, nah, not fuck it.
Indiana is the middle finger of the south. We must submit to our corn gods.

Man, sometimes I read the news and it just makes me really sad, like, how can you hate someone so much based on where they put their genitals that you won't even let them take part in a major social event?
#straightpower, making horrible people in your circle of friends easily identifiable since its inception.
