after having schizophrenia for a year:
"I would come home and bang on my own door after work every day, 'Please let me in. It's your mom. It's your mom.' And finally, I would crawl through my window," she says.
"He would lock me out. And then one day, horribly, literally, he opened the door to me and I could tell by the look on his face that he did not know who I was."
Eventually, Zac made a confession.
"He said, 'Did you know I've been hearing voices for a year?' ... I said 'My darling, why would you not tell your own mother? I would never turn away from you.' He said, 'Because no one wants a crazy person.'"
Zac's fear of telling anyone about the voices delayed his diagnosis. He had schizophrenia.

Zac says the voices were criticizing him. "I can tell you it was a man voice and woman voice, picking on me," he says.

Schizophrenia usually strikes young adults between the ages of 16 and 30. Not only can they hear voices, they may also suffer from visual hallucinations, delusions and extreme paranoia.
Zac can appear robotic and emotionless. Those are symptoms of the disease. The medication he takes can worsen those symptoms and also cause weight gain.

Zac agrees that there is a stigma attached to mental illness. "People will judge you, especially after someone gets assaulted by a crazy guy. I could be that crazy guy," he says.
Just look at the effects mental illness can have not only on the mind, but the body. Mental health should be top priority imo

Whenever I hear that it makes me scared that I'll develop schizophrenia.

I wonder what the odds of developing an illness are.
Whenever I hear that it makes me scared that I'll develop schizophrenia.
i believe it only happens if you are genetically predisposed no?
Whenever I hear that it makes me scared that I'll develop schizophrenia.
My grandmother had a schizophrenia. It's in my family.
Oh shit.

Still very unlikely you'll develop any episodes. It's not exactly common.

My grandma had a serious case of it, so I always have to wonder if that noise was real or I should go get help.

same here.
If the medication worsens the symptoms, what's the goddamn point in it then?
If the medication worsens the symptoms, what's the goddamn point in it then?
It can do, not 'it will', it's the same for a lot of medication. Hell, indigestion tablets can cause indigestion, but they often don't.
My great-grandmother developed schizophrenia. My grandmother said she used to get real nervous, and thought that people were actually spying on her from the inside of the walls of her house. One night when my grandmother went over, it turned out she tore out some of the walls to try and find the voices (apparently she thought they were spies or government agents, or something). I never knew her, but from the stories I've been told it was bad.
Hmm, i was talking to a guy with schizophrenia yesterday while eating lunch. Seemed normal for the most part. Then he started becoming difficult to follow, and and all other kinds of shit such as him being born to some famous person and that he has a famous hat and other things, but he was mostly harmless. Not overly paranoid, just strange.
What was the point and what was "shocking" about the before and after pictures
And why are you posting before and after pictures for schizophrenia
If the medication worsens the symptoms, what's the goddamn point in it then?
So that pharmaceutical companies can make loadsamoney. Like they give a fuck if people get worse. :v:

I probably used to have some form of Schizophrenia, I used to see things and hear voices but I never told anyone, but it eventually went away so it was probably caused by some strong medications I was taking to help with other things I had.
Jesus Christ OP, you should've tagged that after pic. That shit's just NSFW.

You need to tell someone about it. Talk to a doctor.

It hasn't happened to me in 6 years so it is not a problem anymore.
He was pretty hot before
Holy shit, you can actully see how the syndrome has infected his mind on the last image
I don't think anyone in my bloodlines had schizophrenia, but if I ever discovered I had it, I would try to make the most of it by drawing artistic inspiration from whatever voices are heard or whatever mindsets/personalities I found myself with. That is assuming that the alternate personalities are still artistically-inclined like I am.
Thankfully I'm not though, but if I was I'd make the most of it like that Wesley Willis guy.
Still, here's hoping this guy doesn't suffer too badly from his condition, as well as getting the most out of it. When life throws lemons at your head, make lemonade; try as you might, you can't make life take the lemons back, and even with the best of efforts you can't really burn down the house of life with the lemons either. Unless you're a super-powerful psyker or you have nuclear weapons, but for most folks, we just gotta make the lemonade out of the lemons we're thrown.
I hear sounds in the night all the time. As in, sounds that aren't there. Rarely hear any voices though so I think I'm good.
wow a chubby dude how shocking i know you warned me in the title but still. christ. remove the img-tags please. i feel sick.

Anti-psychotic drugs cause an unbelievable amount of weight gain, there's basically nothing you can do about it
(said loss before, changed it)
This creeps me out
Many times when I'm home or waiting for the bus I start talking to people for almost an hour and later realized there's no one there. I don't see them but I still talk to them. It feels like I talk to someone I know and doesn't know, sometimes myself.
I have alot of friends so I have no clue why I do this...
It hasn't happened to me in 6 years so it is not a problem anymore.
I'd still mention it at least just so your doctor knows about it.
My brother has Schizophrenia, as long as he has his medication (which is an injection 1 time a month @ $1,700), he is perfectly fine. Yes he is a little desensitized, but he still shows lots of emotion. He gained a bit of weight, went from a guy who was basically a metrosexual and very athletic, to a chubby, quite lazy person.
Off his meds, I was quite scared of him, what he was going to do, or say...So I'm very thankful that there is at least some medication that can help him. Hope you guys don't consider anyone with schizophrenia crazy.
I gotta friend with that, he tries to come to me to see if I can make sure he doesn't do anything, real nice guy
