Colm Coss, of Ardwick, Manchester, posted on a memorial page for Big Brother star Jade Goody and a tribute site to John Paul Massey, a Liverpool boy mauled to death by a dog. The 36-year-old "preyed on bereaved families" for his "own pleasure", Manchester Magistrates Court heard. He was jailed for 18 weeks for sending "malicious communications". The posts included comments claiming he had had sex with the victims' dead bodies, the court heard. Unemployed Coss was only caught when he sent residents on his street photos of himself saying he was an internet "troll". One of the residents passed the photos to police who interviewed him before he eventually admitted to posting abusive messages. The term "troll" was described in court as someone who creates new identities on Facebook accounts and then posts numerous offensive comments to upset or provoke a reaction from others.
Is that trolling though, really?
What else can it be?
Thank god for the first amendment and freedom of speech, America rocks Jailing someone over this kind of petty harassment is silly
I don't see why people cared about Jade Goody anyway. Sure her family and friends yeah, but she had a better fucking turn out for her funeral than princess fucking Di. Seriously, look it's fucking ridiculous that some asshat who went on big cunting brother gets as much fucking publicity as she did.
Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-11650593 Is this the first punishment for trolling?
They also defined troll wrong. Great, fucking fantastic job. Also "We know you gained pleasure and aren't sorry for what you did" OMG THE JUSTICE SYSTEM KNOWS SOMETHING NOW!?!? That's weird cause from what I learned in forensics everything is based off of probabilities and odds, and it was a very rare moment indeed when you knew someones thoughts. Just saying.

Good.
Why does this guy get arrested but Westboro doesn't?
Don't agree at all. So much for " Freedom of Speech. " And for those of you who are going to take initiative and rate me dumb, let me just hearken upon you for one minute here. Facebook allows you to block and ignore users for a reason. At the bottom of their website it says it is a PRIVATE network. (European Convention on Human Rights - look it up)
And yet no one jails those cocks at Westboro when they troll around funerals of gay Marines? Our justice system is all kinds of fucked up.

Not from there, so I honestly don't know. Either way, freedom of speech is one thing...harrassment is another.
I'm quite a fan of facebook, but them describing trolling as purely a facebook phenomena really riles me.
Well people call 4chan a terrorist site when it's clearly Anonymous who do all that trolling shit... Those who don't visit internet culture forums (Facepunch, 4chan, Something Awful, etc) have no idea what they're talking about half the time when it comes to internet phenomena.

Possibly the stupidest reason to go to jail :colbert:

There is a fine line between using your freedom of speech, and harassment.
There is a fine line between using your freedom of speech, and harassment.
Yep, he was saying he fucked their dead bodies. That is harassment my friends, not "freedom of speech."
There is a fine line between using your freedom of speech, and harassment.
Extremely true. Without starting up a debate here, just want to add to your statement, harassment is a Civil Suit ( Court Case ) matter in the USA, and I'm pretty sure it's the same in the UK.
