I don't know about you guys, but websites that have been lost deep in the web for no one to find intrigue me a lot, forums with the latest post from 2000, caches of cryptic text files from 1998, once thriving websites now completely abandoned. It's sort of like exploring an ancient ruin except on the internet.
Why do these websites stay online? I have no idea.
So anyways, share some interesting websites you've found that fit the titles criteria . Here are some I've found:
http://www.gabrielweinberg.com/apathy/index.txt - Not sure what this is exactly, could be some sort of unfinished dictionary hacker list as it only reaches the B's.
http://plokoon05.proboards.com/index.cgi - An old forum for a Blockland mod.
http://www.safelistbuilder.com/ - A site to build 'Safelists', whatever those are. The copyright date is from 2002.
http://greenspun.com/ - A family server with a page on each member of the family, some dead ones and their pets. - I couldn't find a solid date, but a family photo has the date 1997 timestamped on it.
http://www.qiche.chd.edu.cn/ - A asian SCHOOL OF AUTOMOBILE, copyright date is from 2007.

How to find these websites
1. Take a sentance from anywhere - even from this thread and pate it into google, go to the later pages (15, 20, 30, etc.).
2. Do in inurl search on google for something with the extenion '.htm', when files couldn't have extensions bigger than 3 characters, websites were '.htm' instead of '.html'.
3. Do in inurl search on google for 'login.asp', and go into the later pages.
4. Search for old popular games, go into the later pages or include a date in your search.
how could you miss this

Just invested my life savings in this site.

Oh, maybe opera is stopping itself from opening huge text files.
Oh, maybe opera is stopping itself from opening huge text files.
Why the fuck did it DL a txt file.
Why the fuck did it DL a txt file.
It's a direct link to a text file... "index.txt"
It's a direct link to a text file... "index.txt"
Oh stupid me.
Old, abounded forums are kind of sad...
Oh, maybe opera is stopping itself from opening huge text files.
Why the fuck do you use Opera? Are you on your Wii or something?
Why the fuck do you use Opera? Are you on your Wii or something?
There isn't anything wrong with Opera.
I find it pretty cool to look at dead forums, I think there was a thread on it once. Facepunch does have it's own share of dead sections floating around too
Think about it, in 200 years, maybe the earth has been devestated by nukes or such. Some wasteland traveler finds and old computer in a basement that has ran for 200 years, and still working. And it's on some facepunch thread.

But the thread was made by one of the worst posters on GD so it doesn't officially exist.
Firefox just reported a Trojan on that School of Automobile one, be careful.

horribly broken site
Old, abounded forums are kind of sad...
It's worse when a group of people find a completely ancient one, and use it as like a paedophile ring. Disgusting.

What? Has that ever actually happened?
What? Has that ever actually happened?
Yep, I had one site from 1999 that was active until mid 2001 when the admin went batshit insane and PERMA'D EVERYONE. He then kept talking to himself until end 2003. 2006-7 or so it was picked up by paedophiles and now its used for sharing CP.
Be careful with this, I am getting virus warnings, they only come up on some pages though, only use these if you have a trustworthy antivirus or are trying to fuck your PC, I am leaving the links for peoples curiosity, okay.
http://www.oocities.com/
This place archived many Geocities sites, it's like looking into a poorly kept internet museum. Poorly kept because the websites are of course very broken up and many elements are missing.
http://www.oocities.com/pipeline/1309/
Some guys page on paintball, 1998 is when the visitor count started and it has an ICQ web-pager.
http://www.oocities.com/collegepark/4206/
Some science website to do with left brain thinking, or so it claims, started in 1999.
http://www.oocities.com/hollywood/2278/
A simpsons fan page, started in 1996! Plays music of low quality when you open it. (this is where I got virus warnings)
You're right OP, this is far more interesting than I'd have thought.
what is even worse is when you look back at steam groups people invited you to join and you see so much in the description box about servers, playing with groups and other optomistic stuff but it was never done or nobody went through with it...
The Internet is a sad place sometimes.
