On the issue of replacing the Stig, Clarkson claims to have spent "the last three weeks doing nothing but trying to work out what on Earth to do instead." There are, he says, "many, many, many thousands of people queuing up to be whatever it is we create."

When the book destroys the entire point of the stigs character and he breaks his contact, then yeah they can.
As I said once before. They probably don't want him to reveal his identity so car companies can't slip him a wad of cash to drive their competitors' cars a bit slower than he normally would.

The stig was a mysterious creature who was a big part of the show. He was the 'tame racing driver' who put the cars through a lap to get times. It's always been a big mystery as to who he was, to have it revealed in such an anti-climactic way sucks.

The Stig was the resident racing car driver on Top Gear. He is faster than many professional formula 1 and motor sport drivers round the track and consistently posts amazingly good times on the show; mainly for the purpose of ranking all the cars they road test in order of speed round the track.
However, no one ever see's his face. He is always hidden and never speaks, and the whole situation allowed alot of funny asides, such as "some say his nipple is shaped like the Nurnburgring" or "some say to unlock him you have to slide your finger down his helmet"

But.. since the stig had his identity revealed it would allow companies to bribe him with large sums of money to delibrately slow down on other cars to give viewers a reason to get / look at that company and it's cars.

Because he broke the rules of his contract. It happens in any job.
Also, Clarkson has said that they are going to do something to replace Ben. It could be a simple as a blue stig, or something else.
Clarkson can stick his solid gold cock up his arse. Here we have the stig, forever banished behind a helmet, who makes one attempt to embrace the light and gets compared to Gordon Gekko while Clarkson shits money by traveling the world and driving expensive cars.
