I never have learned what it was[/QUOTE] Anthrax is the name of the disease caused when the bacillus anthracis spore gets into your body (which can happen through the air, contact with wounds, or through infected animal product). It affects animals and humans, though more often animals since the spore actually isn't all that rare in the wild. So "anthrax" really isn't what's being talked about in the news, but I guess "anthrax" is catchier than "bacillus anthracis". It's a really nasty bacteria. If it gets into your skin (through a wound like a cut), it causes a horrible necrotic lesion (Google pictures of this at your own risk) but is treatable. If you actually manage to inhale it and it gets into your system, it's extremely deadly. This stuff is a big deal.
