Hey there, I am a relatively new airsoft user, probably a month and a half, and I have grown to love the hobby. But one thing I want to do to one of my guns is hopefully upgrade to increase FPS.
I have a Classic Army M14 Match, bought from a local store. He says it has metal internals. It's a great gun so far(only thing is I accidentally broke off the trigger piece trying to take it out in the first week, still in for repairs.) but the FPS is a bit lower than I wanted. It's only around 300 with .2g and I want to put in .23 or .25 for more accuracy and wind resistance. From reading around I have seen that upgrading the gear box adds FPS, or the spring. The only downside with the spring, from reading, is that it puts a lot of pressure on other parts and will screw them up badly if not good quality. Is this true? Are CA internals good enough?
Welcome.
I think you should get asgi to do it.
You buy their upgrade service and send them your gun, they upgrade and ship it back.
It's safer, you can't fuck it up and you can assure someone who is skilled will do it and get it right.
How would I go about doing that? They have that service on their website or you have to call?
I know airsoftgi is a good site. I might be able to get my parents to set something up seeing as I don't have credit cards. Yet.

Oh I see it on their site. Thanks dude. Ill look into it and ask more questions if I have any.

I really like the airsoft section. It doesn't seem to be a shithole.
Thanks.
I can't wait till I get a job so I can get a debt card so I can order all the crap I want too.
lol.
AEX, superior in tech service.
Thanks.

lol.
I also might just take it to the local airsoft guy. I think it would be less hassle than sending it to some distant place.
Thanks.

Thanks for pointing that out, my screen's now covered in water.
lol. nice.
As for the stock internals being able to handle a new spring, they should work just fine. All my CA's I've ever had I just tossed in a Guarder SP110 spring to get it near 400fps. Never had to buy new gears or anything, they work just fine.
I'd definitely let a shop do it for you, since I take it it's your first good AEG. I think AEX was doing FPS upgrades for around $50 or so back when I use to have them upgrade my guns. But really all you need is a $10 spring to boost it up. You might try to find players in your area who are experienced at upgrading and tuning guns. A spring change would be easy for them to do, probably can get it done in a day instead of you having to bring or ship your gun to a store. Not to mention they won't charge you an arm and a leg for something so simple.
My second AEG actually. But I already, like a dumbass, tried to take it apart, and the trigger piece snapped in 2 places. It's still in the shop. I have to see with him if he has the springs, and then ask how much he charges to do it.

Checking airsoft GI, M130 is only 20 bucks. He might charge around $30-$40. Sounds good to me.

Also is there somewhere that states EXACTLY what is in the gun, such as the type of piston, gears, spring etc.
All gearboxes are going to have the same parts. The CA M14 is of course going to have stock CA Ver.7 gearbox parts.
Any parts, except the spring and couple other parts, you'll need to make sure they are for a Ver.7 gearbox.
Trying to get to know AEGs inside and out, is this guide accurate?
http://www.acmeairsoft.com/showthread.php?t=5820
Also, could you explain why they need to be for Ver 7?
The guide is fairly accurate.
The reason you would need Ver.7 gearbox parts is because your M14 uses a Ver.7 gearbox. The Ver.7's gearset is slightly different in size than say a Ver.2 or 3 gearset. The cylinder is also longer, so a ver.2 would leave a gap in there and you would have no air going through the barrel. There will be small differences here and there.
Oh thanks. You really seem to be an airsoft pro dude.
You tend to pick these things up after playing and tinkering for 5 years.

yup
I am an aspiring airsofter :)
I tried taking apart the M14 I was talking about, and putting the trigger piece back in the plastic/cheap metal holding thing snapped. In 2 places.
Another question. Where in a CO2 pistol would the oring be? The mag?
Multiple places. The part where the CO2 connects to the mag, the release valve, the blowback chamber (if it's a GBB), and I might be missing one or 2 more.
Ahh. So if it starts leaking it'd be a mission to replace the broken part?
You'd have to find what O ring is leaking first, that would be the first hard part I assume.
I see. Well thanks. Will be helpful information when my CO2 pistol eventually goes bad.
Or is there a way to prevent it from going bad? As in lubing the inside of the mag with the gun oil or something?
Use silicon spray on the seals, that's about as much as you can do on a CO2 pistol. For green gas pistols people normally leave a small amount of gas inside the mag to keep the seals good. You might be able to do this on a CO2 mag, but I think it's more trouble than it's worth.
I'll just spray it whenever I clean it. Thanks.
