And to think they'd rather bring in the National Guard than putting Darren Wilson under arrest or even under mere administrative leave. This is incredible.

isn't darren wilson under administrative leave while he's under investigation?
Things are about to get interesting
Implying that they aren't already

ignoring the fact that the fbi's investigation isn't concluded yet, i'll give you the benefit of the doubt and ask you what the two have to do with eachother
if you think the "civil unrest" referred to here is going to magically go away just because they fire or imprison one cop, you've got a really fucked up view of reality.
isn't darren wilson under administrative leave while he's under investigation?
Paid administrative leave, yes.

Maybe, but considering that's the one thing the protesters have been asking for, it seems to me that they'd rather pour oil on the fire than water.

okay no but seriously the investigation is still ongoing
they can't just hurry the investigation along, and before shit gets worse while they do that, theyd rather the national guard deal with shit instead of, say, the cops. because theyve been doing a fine job so far on their own, right?
Paid administrative leave, yes.
That is what administrative leave is usually, if he is found not guilty of any wrongdoing, he gets payed as if he worked for that time. Would you rather he basically be out on his ass with several weeks of a year with no pay and possibly in debt because of it?
I suppose this is as good a place as any to post this.
These VICE reporters were originally trying to get coverage of what was apparently an open shootout between police and a number of armed suspects (when I started watching, that is), don't really know what they're doing right now, but they just mentioned this executive order a minute ago.

It looks like they just ended it, nevermind.
I wouldn't even really bother skimming through the video, if I were you, it's a whole lot of nothing. Nobody got any footage of anything important, the only thing the video has is two VICE reporters bouncing undocumented stories between one another, such as "Police firing live ammo while hanging off the side of moving swat trucks," which I'm pretty sure is not a thing the police would do, but who knows.

apparently, police are threatening to shoot journalists in the face

Woah, what. You can direct link live videos from youtube?
every /k/ommando's wet dream
You see this is why I don't feel bad when people on /k/ yell at me for being an Australian and being nogunz. At least people generally here aren't so fucking crazy shopkeepers HAVE to form an armed militia in order to not get #rekt
People have had issues with how the police handled this situation; they're definately going to have issues with how the military handles this.
It's going to get really fucking shitty before it gets better; and I hope both sides are prepaired for the consequences of their actions.
People were bitching and complaining about the police in this situation before any investigation even began; "That racist white pig murdered an innocent black man! He should be sent to prison forever or killed for this!", "The police are using too much force to respond to rioters and looters, and are dumb for trying to clear out protestors and media teams drawing attention to this terrible crisis!" Etc. You were one of them.
Who gives a shit if they have issues with how the National Guard handles this? Their feelings and opinions are not important. Nothing ever makes them happy, and they always want to take the stupidest course of action possible. They're overly-emotional and irrational, and have been this way since the beginning. Rather than actually wait for any investigation or whatever to start, they were ready to run out there and start screaming for blood and "justice" from the beginning.
Nothing will happen. The Guard will be called in just like in Watts back in the 60s, and the mob will be put down. Those who are not dispersed will be arrested or killed, and that will be the end of the matter.
Life in Ferguson will go on thereafter as usual again.

After shooting an unarmed teenager dead? Leaving Michael Brown's body in the streets for four hours, before the body was taken away in an SUV instead of an ambulance?
Darrel Wilson fucked up, and the whole situation in Ferguson is fucked up. Suspension without pay is harsh and repercussions would be severe, but given the circumstances of this event, suspending Darrel Wilson's pay would not be irrational.

Before this gets out of hand, this is a really good explanation of "paid vacation"
Paid administrative leave, yes.
Which is automatic for officer involved shootings until the end of the investigation. They couldn't stop paying him even if they wanted because they are either legally or contractually obligated to do so.

was just about to post that
Fuck me sideways, what are they thinking!?
I get keeping order, but all this is going to do is piss off anyone who's already upset by the situation
Maybe, but considering that's the one thing the protesters have been asking for, it seems to me that they'd rather pour oil on the fire than water.
Yeah I'm sure everyone will go home because their intentions at this point are pure.
Cough, looting, cough.

Doing what the protesters ask for in this regard is dumb. This is called mob rule and I would rather not make a precedent of giving into it.
What the hell is this "organized militia". Mobilize the fucking National Guard it's partly what they exist for.
UPDATE
New York times is reporting the Governor of Missouri is deploying the National Guard.
FERGUSON, Mo. — Gov. Jay Nixon announced early Monday that he would deploy the Missouri National Guard to this St. Louis suburb as part of a fresh attempt by the authorities to quell the unrest that has paralyzed the town since an unarmed black teenager was killed by a white police officer.
I honestly don't get why this is such a big deal. The kid was already dead, why use an ambulance that could be out there trying to get a living person to the hospital when the police can just as easily transfer it in an SUV?

I'm guessing it's because dead bodies need to be taken care of quickly and properly, especially when it comes to matters like investigations.

Ambulances have stretchers and other accessories for dealing with dead bodies respectfully. Wheras with an SUV, what are they gonna do, strap his corpse into a seat?

In an SUV? Where are they going to put it? Stuff him in the trunk or let him lay in the passenger seat? What.
Great, National Guard, a further escalation. This is really how we treat protests in this country in 2014?
What happens if the National Guard can't put down the protests? Drone strikes?

Pretty soon they'll be unleashing Anthrax! Oh the humanity!
Considering it was effectively started over nothing and still going then yeah they'll escalate considering the rioters aren't stopping.
What the fuck do you expect? "Curfew is in effect, go home!" "No!" "well that's us fucked guys, back to the drawing board, I'm stumped."
