Trump didn't meet with any Hurricane Harvey victims while in Texas
It was a presidential trip to a deluged state where the president didn’t meet a single storm victim, see an inch of rain or get near a flooded street.
But the daylong visit, during which President Donald Trump spent far more time in the air than on the ground, gave the optics-obsessed president some of the visuals he wanted, as he checked in on the government apparatus working on relief efforts and was buoyed by a roaring crowd of locals.

Trump, aides said, was determined to make a visit early. He had even pushed to come before Tuesday, one adviser said, wanting to be on the ground as quickly as possible. From Washington, he began giving administration officials assignments and told his entire Cabinet “that everyone is focused on this,” one senior administration official said.
Advisers saw the storm as a way for Trump to show decisive leadership. While the famed germophobe has never shown a streak of being the consoler-in-chief, these people said the hurricane gives his government a chance to show competency — and him as the chief executive of the response.

The president instead landed in Corpus Christi under blue skies as big as home-state hero George Strait sang about. Protesters and fans lined the highways with signs varying from “We Love You Trump!” to “Impeach Little Hands!” — but nothing on the sunny interstate seemed amiss in the wake of the storm.
There were few interactions with people who hadn’t been screened, and the president spent far more time flying Tuesday — at least eight hours — than on the ground, where he spent about three hours. Reporters traveling with Trump saw little more than he did, often quickly whisked from rooms or away from survivors or volunteers.
Out of touch (literally):

Of course not. They would have thought it was about them, since all they did was SURVIVE A FUCKING HURRICANE, while he is """"""""""""""special"""""""""". It clearly was supposed to be all about him, to the point where he will probably try to take credit for their survival despite doing less than jack shit.

Newsweek is pretty shit. Here's the original politico article. It goes into more depth and give you more insight into his visit.

You're right, this article is much more fleshed out. I'll replace the OP with it.
Understandable. Rescue efforts are barely underway.
Both of Houston's international airports were flooded and there was a no fly zone as not to get in the way of rescue helicopters, and virtually all the highways were underwater. In my opinion, President visits just get in the way. They have to bring a lot of things with them and suck up a lot of police assets. When Biden came last year there was a cop on every damn street, it was annoying.
Presidential photo ops are the norm, but all they really do is get in the way of rescue efforts. I'd rather they came like a week after and get their picture helping feed evacuees or something. People who are stranded in homes don't care if the President gets a photo op with the flood waters. I'd rather he was in Washington getting a relief bill underway with bipartisan support.
We don't need the President here when people are still dying.

I'm glad he didn't come to Houston. I don't care that he came at all, really.

That said, I can't say what he did while he was here surprises me.
When he came to visit the storm was still happening yeah?
When he came to visit the storm was still happening yeah?
Not in the region he visited. But Houston and east Texas was still flooding. The storm is still a Tropical Depression over Louisiana right now...

If I understand correctly, Corpus Christi was not as hard-hit as areas like Houston. Let's not forget that there is also violence and looting going on in the affected areas, in addition to the flooding. It appears (at least superficially) to have been safer for both the President and the active rescue personnel for this visit to be conducted the way it was.

Well Corpus is probably the closest someone with a 747 + Entourage could get to where the storm made landfall. Just east of Corpus in Rockport, which was pretty much completely destroyed. Corpus suffered damage as well. Houston just flooded so badly I don't think Trump could physically make it into the City without taking a helicopter. You couldn't get Air Force One into the city till today.
isn't Donald a notorious germaphobe?

He said in an interview that he believes that there is a finite amount of energy a human has, so he doesn't "waste" his by exercising. That's stupid, of course but this means the people of the USA elected a president that doesn't know what the purpose of eating is, despite being a clear enthusiast for terrible food.
Seems like Pence is still down here meeting people.
