ATLANTA -- Atlanta Police said a 14-year-old student has been shot at Price Middle School, near the Lakewood Heights neighborhood south of downtown Atlanta on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Atlanta Fire Department, there was a 14-year-old shot in the head. Grady Memorial Hospital says they have received one under-aged gunshot victim.
Atlanta Public Schools public information officer Steve Alford said the gunshot wound was more toward the back of the neck, and indicated that the child was awake when taken to Grady Hospital.
The second person hurt was a teacher who may have been trampled in the confusion following the shooting. The teacher was also taken to Grady. His or her condition is not presently known.
Alford said the shooting suspect was apprehended by police.
Price Middle School has been placed on lockdown, and parents are being asked not to come to the school to avoid any additional confusion in the area.
According to 11Alive's Julie Wolfe and Sam Crenshaw on the scene, the assistant principal of Price Middle School came out to tell assembled parents that their children are okay.
Students are expected to be released from school at the normal dismissal time of 3:45.
