The deal with Switzerland, which took more than three years to negotiate, is set to include some reductions in tariffs in sectors such as manufacturing and chemicals, as well as in agriculture. Full details of the pact have not yet been released, but are likely to be published over the summer, Johann Schneider-Ammann said on Wednesday.
Most European countries are unable to sign a free-trade agreement with China, because they are members of the EU, which refuses to agree to Beijing’s precondition that China be considered a market economy.

China is Switzerland’s sixth-largest export market, and imported Swiss goods worth SFr527.3m in February. Meanwhile Switzerland imported Chinese goods worth SFr824.7m in the same month.
Among Swiss companies, the main beneficiaries of the growing purchasing power of China’s emergent middle class have been the luxury watchmaking brands, many of which are owned by Richemont and Swatch.
Despite heavy import duties, China’s imports of Swiss watches have soared over the past decade, and the Asian power is now the third-largest market for Switzerland’s watchmakers, behind only Hong Kong and the US.
Awesome, now the Swiss and Chinese shall grow wealthier together (due to the rise of consumerism in China, Swiss watches are in high demand), this treaty shall only be an improvement, helping the Swiss watchmakers whilst giving the Chinese what they desire (yes, the Chinese actually import things).

free trade is often good, but i'm a bit skeptical of "free trade" treaties considering how so many of them turned out(not free trade).
if the swiss subsidized their agriculture and china didn't, a tariff reduction could actually hurt trade because the swiss can provide artificially lower prices for agriculture and put economic pressure on chinese farmers.
so yea...i'm skeptical.

Well most of it is about reducing tariffs for both sides although the full details aren't out yet.

nafta reduced tariffs as well i believe. it also allowed the united states to continue over-subsidizing their agriculture and helped to cause a lot of unemployment among mexican farmers due to artificially low food prices they couldn't compete with.
