Jesus, fucking destroyed. I thought this was his joke channel, not his killing spree montage channel.
[editline]asdf[/editline]
(psst, to everybody taking this seriously: this is his joke channel, and videos like this posted there are meant to get a rise out of people. calm down)
who cares, it's just pronunciation.
"Notice a pattern"
Yeah
Gift
take away the 't'
jeez, who the fuck cares
Believe it or not there is a lot of words people mispronounce and nobody cares if they do
he literally points out in the video that there are exceptions to the rule
the fact that they are a minority is utterly irrelevant
Jesus, fucking destroyed.
he made 2 points in the video
for the first point he admitted there are exceptions, so that doesn't make it a very solid point
and the second point didn't even argue for "jif" at all
not really what i'd call "fucking destroyed"
All the words which start G-I-F are included in those exceptions he talked about and are pronounced with a hard G. He gave a reason why it might not be pronounced with a hard G but didn't give a reason why it wasn't one of the exceptions other than it being statistically unlikely.
clearly there needs to be a battle to the death before this heated and controversial debate is finally settled
[sp]the correct pronunciation is jif[/sp]
i'm literally smarter than all of u i pronounce it jif

everyone loses because it's 28 year old file format
Why is Jesse Eisenberg so obsessed with the word GIF?
everyone loses because it's 28 year old file format
Really we should be debating how to pronounce WebM now.

I'm joking. This is a joke channel. I thought people around here knew who ThioJoe is.

"webbem"
Between a mix of the English language being fucking stupid and pronunciations, I'm going to keep using a hard g.
You guys are just mad that you're wrong. This guy's really smart. He helped me change my computer's oil.

Completely unrelated: what the fuck is up with his facial hair? It's like baby muttonchops.
But then how would you spell it so it's pronounced with a hard G?

Jif.
I always thought it was a "tomato tomahto" deal with this word.
This guy is trying to copy maddox while turning out as nothing but a sulky kindergarten baby

English is a dumb fucking language with so varied accents all over the world that it really doesn't fucking matter what way you pronounce a stupid non-word like gif
But this douche trying to get views based on INTERNET NERDFEUDS makes me queasy
I only call it jif because that's what the creator uses. Imagine if you created something and you got to name it, but everyone decided that your name was wrong for no reason. You'd be pretty pissed!

'cause it's funny to me
It's called GIF because graphics interchange format, and nobody pronounces graphics as jraphics. Literally 0 people do this.
It's called GIF because graphics interchange format, and nobody pronounces graphics as jraphics. Literally 0 people do this.
But it's pronounced "gif" with a soft g, regardless of its acroynm's pronounciation. The creator said so, and the only reason people argued otherwise since is becuase "lmao, fuck you, it's a hard g."
The worst I've seen people argue is people saying "YOU DON'T SAY VIDEO JAME, DO YOU, OR DO YOU OPEN A JATE."

The whole thing is funny to me because when the creator of gif made it I don't think he expected nearly a decade later that nerds on the internet would be arguing over how to pronounce it.

But... He actually has a pretty solid argument against that in the video. You don't pronounce "SCUBA" with a short U because "underwater" has one, etc.

I hope none of you become bartenders. You're gonna drive all your clientele away as you debate the correct pronunciation of the word "gin".
It's called GIF because graphics interchange format, and nobody pronounces graphics as jraphics. Literally 0 people do this.
Like in jpeg. Photographic is pronounced with a 'p' right?
you decide yourself how you want to pronoune it, end of story.
In Norway, Jif is for cleaning things, and Gif is for animated pictures
Jiff is a peanut butter brand not a file extension. English is full of exceptions to rules for pronunciation, this is one of them. By his logic people who pronounce gift correctly are wrong because the hard g is an exceptional case. What supercedes any guidelines for pronunciation is how people actually say it, and nobody says jif.
What decides how a word is pronounced is the amount of people saying it.
If 80% of people say "Gif" and 20% say "Jif" then Gif is correct.
If everyone would start pronouncing it as "jeefu" then that would be the "correct" way.
At least that's what I think.
